I have read many posts of users complaining on the lack of Genesis and Genesis 2 content for Poser. Instead of adding my voice to that group, I will praise those vendors who make the effort to create Poser Companion Files and sell to a wider audience.

When a vendor uses the simple screen in DAZ Studio to create the Poser Companion Files for their product, it is safe to assume that they have tested their product in Poser. I know some vendors never used Poser, so it is understandable why they don't create for Poser. There are others who have Poser experience, but threw it away. However, there are those vendors who turned their Poser experience into an asset. And, they, in turn, are rewarded with a wide customer base.

I have created Poser Companion Files for DAZ content. From poses to characters to props, I have imported them into Poser. Experience taught me that poses import into Poser the best, but materials/shaders have the most trouble. Simple textures, transparencies, and bump maps do import very well. I have seen some vendors, who wanted more complex materials, make native poser material files. That attention to detail that will have me buy from them again.

Here is my list of vendors that is by no way comprehensive.

OutOfTouch
SWAM
Ironman13
Bobbie25
Sarsa
Charlie
Parris

I’ve been away from DAZ for a while … my libraries were a mess, DAZ Studio was confusing and dragging along with update after update.

After upgrading my MAC to an IMac retina 5K - I resisted using TimeMachine to reinstall and installed DAZ Studio and my entire DAZ Library from scratch. Hooray for DAZ3DIM which made days of work complete in minutes and what a surprise … DAZ Studio was efficient and worked like a professional program.

Reinstallation is a pain in the neck but so worth it. DAZ deserves recognition for every step in my success to turn things around. They keep records of my purchases and mine went back to (I think) 2001. (I used Poser and transitioned to DS.) They allowed me access to their servers to download my products. They created a downloader to handle the mess of download and the installation process easily. They gave me access to my product serial numbers and updated the program from the shell that it was to a relevant functioning professional product.

There is a lesson here …. cleaning house makes a great difference to your workflow. And I’m back to DAZ … made my first new purchase late last week.

(Now, if only DAZ would update my old friend Bryce :)

Hi.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. For those of you who have heard me, I'm not trying to start something. This is my way of protesting.

Daz did it to me again. I purchased content and now, when I am in a mode to download, the company puts up an accept or not accept EULA for everything I have bought from day one to now. I have to click ok on the thing to get stuff I paid money for even if I don't have time to read it.

I feel it is holding "my" content hostage.

I cannot seem to find a way around this EULA to be able to download content.

I cannot emphasize enough that I do not like this practice and that I feel it should be considered either illegal or unethical. It discourages the reading of the EULA to such a degree where the EULA can potentially be considered uninforceable. People already have their money invested and this comes up after that fact. A EULA should come up prior to the action of purchasing content, or if you want to hold past content hostage the customer should be given a reasonable period or number of access times to read it and accept the changes or not. Further the changes being made should be disclosed from what was agreed to previously, and money should be refunded if the conditions become unacceptable.

I am stating to the world that I am not reading it this time. I am tired and I want to enjoy content this weekend. So I am just going to click ok on whatever it says - because that is apparently what I am expected to do (though I am making a copy in case this action comes back to affect me) without reading it in advance. I am clicking ok not because I necessarily agree to what it says, but because I want access to what I have purchased, which is probably what most other customers do.

I don't know of any other company that uses this practice, after purchase and for a whole library.

I am telling you this DAZ to make you better and, I feel, more ethical, for something that some people consider legally binding but which is quite obviously being treated in practice as lengthy documentation not intended to be read.

I will probably say this again if this happens again. Because I want to be on record that there should be a better way.

I wanted to learn which Thorne's resource kits allow freebie-making (I remember some claims that at least one female and two male ones allowed that). However, the documentation doesn't bring all readmes and those which are available are pretty useless - just links to the PA's shop, to the set itself... Even the file lists are blank. Can you help?

The page lists DAZ Studio and Poser as compatible soft ware but down in the description it states "Compatibility: Poser 5+. Sorry, no DAZ|Studio version is available yet". It is a Grab Bag item so if it doesn't work I can't return it.

Hi folks.

I am sure there is a correct way to do this and I am just missing it.

I have a picture that I have placed onto a plane primitive. I want it to be mounted wall art in a scene, so I used 4 cube primitives to turn into the 4 sides of the picture frame, and shaded them with a wood shader. It looks great. I then parented all the frame edges to the plane primitive. Now the picture all moves together, all good so far.

But then if I try to export it as say a prop asset, only the picture (or whatever I have selected) is saved, not the frame edges. I know I can save them as a "scene subset" but is there some way I can also just save them as one single prop?

IS THE BETTER WAY TO GO, to scale Them down, and place them in a regular sized setting (table, stuff around them). Or to keep them regular sized, and scale up the background stuff?

Does it matter? Will one way give me better performance from the program?
Will one way give me better detail on the figures?

After a disappointingly brief return to DAZ Studio, I've switched back to Poser due to compatibility issues with Poser-exclusive content.

Now, I need help with the DSON Importer.

Following the DSON User Guide, I've figured out how to install the scripts. What I'm having trouble with is Step 3 - What Else Do I Need?.

That section references two files that it claims are included with the DSON Importer, but I've discovered are actually not:

Genesis Starter Essentials
Genesis Starter Essentials for Poser

They are no longer included in the list of files to download with the Importer, and are not part of the Importer's installer, either. They are, however, listed separately in my Product Library. The problem is, none of the files are installers anymore. They're all zips, making Section 3 of the User Guide useless.

As an aside, I also have the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials.

I have four questions:

1) Do I need the Genesis Starter Essentials to use the DSON, or can I discard them and just use Genesis 2?
2) Where is Genesis content supposed to go in order for Poser to see it?
3) How do I identify DSON-compatible content when shopping?
4) How are Poser companion files labeled for compatible products?
