I recently rebuilt my main PC and as a result had to reinstall everything. I downloaded the latest versions of DS and DSon and installed them. Now when I try to use Dson imported figures in Poser Game Dev 2014 I have issues with it. What happens is when I load a figure via the dson importer it kills my poser library. Everything freezes and the library is no longer accessible after the first item is loaded. Poser continues to function normally. Closing and reopening the library has no effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times. There can be no old installations that are conflicting since this is a brand new hard drive with a fresh install of everything. Can anyone help?

Worth mentioning, the main drive is an SSD drive and since it is only 500gbs I have installed my ds content on a secondary internal drive in order to not take up space on the SSD. This is how I have always had it installed and never had any problems before now. Also If I install dson to poser pro 2012 instead it gives me this error

Traceback (most recent call last):

I've been dabbling in Poser/DAZ for more than a decade and along the way have acquired mountains of V4 content. Having been snowbound for weeks, what better than to try to migrate some of my V4 content so it works with the G1 and GF2 characters in DS4.7?

I settled on three base products (some require add-ons) for this -- Generation X2 for transferring V4 morphs, PoseMaster for transferring V4 poses, and V4 Skins Auto Converter for Genesis 2 for transferring V4 Skin Textures.

With a couple weeks experimentation under my belt, here're some opinions.

It's time consuming because for before transferring each Character morph (and I've been doing the Head and Body morphs separately), you have to load the full V4.2 Morph++ morph set. But for G1, the results are remarkably good. My gold standard are the look-a-like V4 characters such as Scarlett Johansen Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Lawrence, Helen Bonham Carter, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Summer Glau, Lena Headly, etc.

Generation X2 did a remarkable job of transferring both head and body morphs to G1 single character sliders that are a breeze to apply -- and as far as I can see, are nearly 100% accurate. I was actually surprised at how well Generation X2 handled the minute nuances of head shape that can make or break a celebrity look-a-like.

My experience with Generation X2 and transferring V4 head morphs for GF2 was not nearly as satisfying. Perhaps its something about the underlying geometry, but I was only able to achieve a slight resemblance between the V4 character and the transferred GF2 head morph. The GF2 versions were attractive, but they weren't really recognizable as the the original Scarlett, Kirsten, Jennifer, Helen, Marilyn, Sophia, Summer, Lena, etc.

So far, I've only used the PoseMaster script to transfer large batches of V4 Poses to work with G1. The results have been very good, with one caveat. The G1 figure has a slightly different bone structure, so the poses simply cannot be a perfect match. This is most noticeable in poses were the hands or feet are near each other, or touching body parts. Poses like these will require additional tweaking, there's no way around it. The conversion process is easy to set up, but does require considerable time to run. Like complicated renders, it's best done while eating a meal or watching TV. Haven't experimented converting any V4 poses to GF2 yet.

The V4 Skin Auto Converter, like the name implies, is fast, simple and almost completely automatic. It also works amazingly well at transferring textures from V4 to GF2. (Remember V4 textures can be applied directly to G1 as long as you change the UV Map setting to V4 in the Surfaces Editor).

What about Subsurface Scattering settings in V4 Texture that have SSS versions? Good question, I assume SSS settings aren't transferred, but I haven't really checked.

What I can say is that V4 Skin Auto Converter works -- and works remarkably well -- at transferring V4 MATs for use with GF2.

Bottom line, all three of these products do their job and do it well -- with the one exception Generation X2 conversion of V4 head morphs to GF2 where the results are not unpleasing, but lack some of the important nuances of the original V4 head morphs.

Hope this is helpful to anyone contemplating migrating a few hundred gigs of V4 content for use with G1 and GF2 in Studio 4.7. It takes time, but yes, it really can be done!

***I have changed the title of the post to be more descriptive. I want to appeal to the masses by getting you to do the design work for me, and I do the modeling and texturing. Sound lazy? Not really. How many times have you bought an outfit only to think, "I wish I could have suggested something here, because this is nearly perfect but I wish it could have ________." So, my new concept is I make what you want, not what I want. Sure, I could design a suit that I think is cool and put it on the market, but I wanted to give this concept a try. The rest of this post is from my original post, so it may be confusing like I am not sure what I am doing. Not the case, just wanted to do things a different way.

I have an idea, one that, to my knowledge, has not been done so far. I recently decided that I wanted to design a SciFi Suit for the male characters in Genesis. There are a few good ones out there already, but mostly they are abundant for the female characters.

So, knowing that I needed a base to start with, I modeled a bodysuit for Genesis, shown in the attached image. This is where I got stuck. I, with my limited SciFi imagination, could not think what to do next. I looked at other scifi suits, took a couple of days to daydream and imagine some things, but really ended up empty handed. The few things I tried just seemed repetitive of most of the other suits, and frankly left me bored.

This is where my new concept comes in. In my next post, I will put pictures of the front and back of the current body suit. I want to design something that the masses would find useful and interesting. I invite you to use these renders and maybe sketch in some ideas for a scifi suit that you would like to see available for the Genesis male figures. I will leave these images up for some time and try to incorporate as many of the ideas and suggestions as possible into the final product(s). Please suggest details, color schemes, material zones, whatever you wish to see in the scifi suit.

So what's in it for you? Well, anyone whose idea is used in the final product will receive a copy of the product as a thanks for your contributions. I honestly don't have an ETA on this, since I do have a day job and RL responsibilities, but I am serious about making this bodysuit.

As it stands, I have material zones set up, but they can be changed. I have zones for legs, briefs, sleeveless top, short sleeved top, and long sleeved top. The straps on the feet don't have to stay, they were just an idea. I will also consider making boots, belt(s), backpacks, masks, helmets, guns, etc. as suggested.

The image in this post is the plain bodysuit with the Hardcore Utility Shader "Green Nylon" applied.

Greetings,
I'm not seeing myself needing one very soon, but I wanted to see if anyone had some clarity into a few things...

First off, in my day job I make more than the indie license limit, but not as a game developer. It's completely unrelated to game development, in fact. Am I right in thinking that I'm still ineligible for the Indie license and would have to get the full Commercial license if I

Secondly, I notice there's a statement 'All discounts are not applicable to this item', but sometimes there are glitch sales or extra discounts that appear to apply to it, driving SIGNIFICANT discounts in the hundreds of dollars. If I bought at that discount, would I still have to 'true up' to the actual price? In essence it's not like a digital product, you're engaging in a contract, and the question is whether that price statement is part of the contract.

Normally I know that store discounts are usually, 'if you catch a glitch discount, it's okay...' but for something like this, I'd be more hesitant. I'd hate to enter into that kind of agreement incorrectly, and find myself in trouble for it when about to ship a game.

I have reinstalled both Dry Mud Desert and Studio (Version 4.7.0.12). No luck. Then did a manual install of Dry Mud Desert with the .zip file from DAZ website. Still no joy. if it is of any help my system:

Homebrew AMD 3.2 mHz cpu w/6 cores. 16 GB system mem. Two year old GeForce GTS 250. Not a high performance card but useable.

I'm fairly able to sort basic issues but this one has me stumped. Could by my system. I just can not put my finger on it. I am using Dry Mud Desert in just the default state and enjoying it very much. But i want to make full use of this great package.

Please pardon the long post. i just want to include what information I thought helpful. Any advice woul be greatly appreciated.

The new releases are not released just today, but they do have New across the top of their promo pics so I suppose they should count.

Has the offer expired and they haven't taken it off the page yet? Or is it only for today's new releases? Or is the shop going wrong again?

I'm currently rendering on a laptop with an i5-2430M 2.4Ghz processor and 4Gb of RAM. OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and things are pretty brutal. Takes hours to render a scene with single-light raytracing and decent render settings (using the AMR script).

I was looking at this laptop as a possible replacement, but I don't know how to evaluate the type of RAM/processor for the purposes of DAZ, other than just looking at numbers (i7 > i5, 16Gb RAM > 4Gb, etc).

I guess what I'm asking is, do I really need to worry about the stuff I keep reading about on here (like GPU rendering and RAM threads) if I want a better DAZ machine, or would the upgrade from my current machine to the one I linked to make a big enough difference that I could cut my time spent rendering down by a significant margin (like maybe half) and get better quality renders? Or are there basics of CPUs/RAM that I should be looking for that I am currently unaware of?

Thanks for any and all advice you can provide, I'm trying to figure all this out but it's like I'm reading a foreign language when I browse other peoples threads about rendering workhorses.

Feel free to discard: an idea for March Madness

As it says on the tin: feel free to discard it as I have a fishy feeling punches will punch us in a usual fashion (see signature) again, but I'll try anyway...

Why wouldn't DAZ make this March Madness not punchable, but BOGO? I recall from newsletters from 2012, it was a success (according to the forums at least). A no-brainer: two categories, BUY and GET. You had to buy X items from BUY (you had like 2000+ to choose from) and then you'd get X items from GET (again, there was much variety). There was no additional caveats, the return policy worked. I don't think PC+ items were included, but to me, getting two things while paying for one is a simple and worthwhile deal. No stacking coupons, just good old shopping frenzy ;).

What can be read about the sales' types...

Kyoto Kid said:

Hoping MM will be a straight discount sale without all these games.

JK0011 said:

Now if we could get credit towards anything in the store like a solid dollar amount for say every 5 dollars spent that we could save up and use at the end of the year that might be worth it. With it not being tied to specific items or excluding items and the use of the voucher not being tied to a specific item or excluding items. That might be worth it.

Mortimer J Snodsworth III said:

To paraphrase "The marketing folks knows what they are doing because they have the sales figures, and wouldn't do it if it was losing money".

Okay, sure. That's painfully obvious.

However, take a look at the traditional sales approach: "I have an item I want to sell. I want to charge $10.00. For the month of Salember, i'm offering a 50% discount. Come buy it while the sale is active for this indicated period of time at this great discount."

Very straight forward. No confusion. There is a stated benefit of a discount with a beginning and an end. Its a method that has been in effect for millennia.

And yet this traditional method doesn't work here at DAZ3D? Why is that?

Why is it that adding details, stipulations, asterisks, preconditions and such is more beneficial to DAZ3D sales practices?

Any suggestions?

Kyoto Kid said:

What makes matters worse is punches must be redeemed each week or they go away. To get 15 punches in seven days would mean not only buying 15 new release items, but items I may not need (or want) just to get the maximum discount. Considering the outlay required to get all those punches it could actually exceed any savings I would get due to the way stacking discounts are applied (no more X% off of 50%). I would also have to redeem that discount in the following week, or *poof*, it's gone. I think the most punches I ever had was four and that was because of a not only glitch where a freebie gave me a punch but a couple 1.99$ PC items that qualified as "punchable" (that appears to have changed as well). Never got a 5th item for even a 5% discount, so once the week rolled over, the count reset to zero.

Patience55 said:

ruphuss said:

Patience55 said:

March is Coming!

Hope everybody is saving big time!!! :-)

hehehe ...

{for the newbies, it's called the March Madness Sale}

why this hype about a sale that wasn't interesting at all last year
just punches I think
we now have better sales the whole year through

"Once upon a time" it was one of the best, as in fun, sales throughout the year. If in reading over all the suggestions people have been making improvements are made, who knows ... maybe we'll get a Millennial Cow and an English Bulldog and gee ... have a nice normal straight forward sale, price is what you see, grab it. 24 hour sales have to be about 36 hours to be fair for all around the globe as I recall.
I still remember getting an item [had nothing to do with season sales] in Fastgrab for something like 24 cents.

When I first joined the forums over a year ago all everyone talked about was March Madness and how much fun and what great deals were to be gotten. Then it was that time last year and it was good but not great. Then this year's madness rolled around and it has been so so. While there are some great items to be had I don't want to have to buy 2 items to get the great deals. As well it has been pretty much the same PA store's on repeated sale. The forums here are pretty much dead compared to what it used to be and I have been spending my money over at Rendo.

Daz needs to take a very hard look at itself and change a great deal of customer service back to what it used to be otherwise it will continue to lose those from it's PC and continue to turn off those like me who once considered joining it. Let us have the MM sales but on just one item not 2.

Just my opinion but I know that I'm not alone in it and that will in the end hurt Daz's bottom line if they don't change things around.

...really enjoyed the first couple. Built a good foundation of content from them, and yes, got some items for ridiculously low prices. Was even better as the galleries, contests, and PC gave out vouchers that could be used on either DO or PA items which also stacked with coupons (that had no minimum purchase requirement).

I don't understand Daz "sales". Get 50% off this or that item if you buy one of these other items that you have absolutely no need for. The sale item must be created by a left-handed troll on Thursday, at least six planets in the solar system must be in alignment during low tide and cannot weigh over twelve pounds. Purchaser must chant "ia cthulhu ftaghn" while skipping backwards on one foot in a counter-clockwise direction and swinging a live chicken overhead.

What's wrong with just saying, "hey look, this item is on sale. This is how much it costs. Buy it now."

Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

What's wrong with just saying, "hey look, this item is on sale. This is how much it costs. Buy it now."

Geez, that was SO-O-O last year

I also hated those buy this today for extra discount tomorrow so am glad that is gone.

...and a post by Havos, too big to quote, but very informative: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/752962/.

What do you think? Did you enjoy the items in the respective categories in 2012? Do you prefer punches?

PS I think it also included free items that were considered old in 2012. The preview can be seen here: http://web.archive.org/web/20121228171244/http://www.daz3d.com/shop/sales-promotions - as you can see, it is just flat "buy from here, get from here".

The gap happens with G2M, M6, and Jayden 6, all of which are supposedly supported with morphs in the product. So it looks like a bug in the product. I don't see the problem in the promo images, though, so maybe it is something with my setup.

Just load G2M or M6 or Jayden 6, fit the hoodie to him, and pose the arms down. I first noticed it when I applied a pose from one of the commercial pose sets. Then I went back and just used Pose Controls to set Arms Up-Down. As soon as a pose moves the arms down, the gap appears. It is made worse by using the Hood Down morph. Do you see that same issue?

Edited to add: Smoothing doesn't fix it either.
