I seem to be having a DUH moment. Usually I'm pretty good with getting the results I want, but I don't seem to be able to match, or even come close to the skin color/tone on the Iray promo renders. What I get is much darker than the promos, unless I crank the lights up to crazy amounts that blow everything else in the scene out. I attached a sample render of the default Amaya Iray textures (on the right) and for comparison Quinty on the left (who in promos is much darker than Amaya). I also attached the main promo render of Amaya for comparison.

By changing the translucency color (lighter) and the SSS reflectance tint to lighter and from the blue tint to yeloowish things lighten a bit, but nothing close to what the promos are. So I thought I'd check here first to see if I'm either missing the obvious, or if someone has already figured out the magic key to reproducing something similar to the promos. I've also tried several different light rigs, and HDRI's without any better results (even the "go to" Pixar campus HDRI doesn't seem to lighten her up). Maybe the SSS or spec maps need adjusting?

Hopefully it's just me being stupid. This is the first time I've been tempted to return something because the promos are sooo much different than what I'm getting.

Hi All,

So last night i was playing around with an outside night-time scene, and i figured the best way to get good lighting would be to use a nightsky HDRI to light it. The problem was, i was getting some seriously ugly noise on my character, and only on my character. It would not clear up, no matter what i did. I let it render to 15000 samples, and it looked no different to 6000 samples. It was frustrating as hell, i figured it was something to do with my character, since the noise was only present on the character, and not the rest of the scene.

I spent ages playing with different things, but could not figure it out so i saved the scene and figured i would do something else and come back to it. Then i was setting up a skin shader on a different character, and i had the same noise come back, in a scene that had nothing in it except the character. so after initially getting angry again, i reset all the render settings to default, and the noise was gone. After playing around a little i figured out it was the HDRI map causing the noise problems. Confirmed after going back to the night scene i was doing, deleting the sky HDRI and using the environment light.

So what is it with certain HDRI maps that cause this noise? low resolution? or is it in conjunction with something else?

happy that i know what was causing it now, but also curious to know specifically why this happens

One of the products was in my wishlist but not essential and I could view the sale on my phone but couldn't buy anything until I got home today when the sale was over. I wish there was a way to rewind by putting items in the cart until such time as it's possible to buy them. I can see the problem with this of people putting loads of products in their cart for weeks but if there was a 24hr grace period then that would be cool. I'm sure the items wil go on sale again but DAZ could have had a few more sales today. As Bo Selecta! might sing, "Can I get a rewind?"

Is there a difference bewteen loading G3F and then applying materials and charater morphs (say Bethany) using the parameter dials, and just loading the pre-load character (i.e. click on Bethany 7 in the content)?

Some time ago I became convinced that the former method was better because it allowed better mixing of morphs (say, part V7 and part Bethany).

I tried to fix it by removing the weight map part for the hair around the ears but there is only a "General Weights" map which doesn't seem to change anything in this concern. On the other hand a d-former to move them back in works to a certain degree but every time when adjusting the ears the hair move again. This doesn't look well with animations.

Was just testing a new G2F character and tried to apply Amazing Skins for G2F because the skin looked a bit dull. The result are rather odd though, for what I know it's just shaders but it's almost as if they morph the face. Nose gets smaller, and with some black stuff in the nostrils, and mouth is deformed. There's nothing unusual to see in the Viewport, it's first when I render that it shows up.

I've tried applying AS with the same settings to several other characters, it works fine with all of them, it's only this particular character that is distorted this way. Any idea what can be causing it? My guess is some UV map thing, but I'm not an expert on that stuff.

Any idea on how to do this? I'm doing a beach scene and I'd like to have the figures look oiled, as if they had put on a lot of sunscreen. I've found wet shaders and such, but nothing shader-wise that specifically looks oiled. I don't want the figures to look dripping wet, just with that even oily sheen look.

Many thanks,

I'm just having a bit of brain fog this morning. I'm certain I used to know this, but for the life of me I just can't remember: How easily can I use V4 poses with A4?

I realize that there's probably not an easy answer for this, or that opinions may vary, but IN GENERAL (and assuming I'm using standard body types without extreme morphs), would I need to do a little tweaking, or is it a big pain in the you-know-what?

Hello folks,

Thought I would share what I am working on next and maybe get some feedback.

Basically it's old books. I've modelled five books so far each with three variations of cover; plain, leather and marble. So you get fifteen variations in all.

Question is (aside from if anyone likes them), I'm planning on making at least five more. Do people think I should do a big pack of the ten with three variations for each ?

Or spilt it up into two packs of five ?

For a bit of further info, the books are inspired by real books. The spines were put together from photos of real books, it was fiddly getting the detail in there, but I think it was worth it. Really these are old books, but not meant to be particulalry age worn. I made some that look older, but in general it was about books in period so they would still look in good condition - of course you can find old books that look new today, I bought some from eBay for my reference for the next five.

Anyway' I'll stop rambling. The bookends I made too and would be included.

Edit: I did a pack of six in the end with 3 cover variations for each one.

Has anybody else noticed a problem with Studio 4.9 when you're painting weight maps and you have face groups turned off it will still paint the weight values to those face groups as if they were turned on? This is making it very difficult when you're working with a figure that needs to have certain face groups turned off in order to gain access to other faces. I'm finding I constantly have to go in erase weights that accidentally get painted on the turned off faces.
