So my tax return is in(!) and I am shopping for a graphics laptop and I have a hard ceiling of $600. Limited I know but its what I have to work with. Just wondering if anyone can give a not to technical reccomendation for or against either one of these in the links below or another better choice in your opinion. Note; I am not attatched to any brand name but am more conserned with general 3d workflow. I primarily use Daz3d, a little bit of modeling a lot of photoshop and some gaming. I do realize Iray is a consideration for graphics cards.

The first one is an Acer Aspire E5-573G 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i5 5200U, 8GB, 1TB, NVIDIA GeForce 940M 2GB, Windows 10 Home)

Answer: 960x400 (if you upload a larger image it's automatically scaled widthwise to 960, maintaining its original aspect ratio, and then cropped heightwise about the centre to 400 if it's taller)

Someone mentioned they paid $175 for a stock video clip of a scene of people on treadmills. I myself have seen hefty price tags for other stock footage.

So in this light, what are people here doing with their completed animation clips/stories/sequences/whatever? Or rather, is it possible to cash in on one's Short animation clips? Like say around 2 minutes or just under.

To, in light of that stock stuff, it seems it may be lucrative to capture one's own footage to proffer. I've yet to query google and thought I'd ask here first. Sounds like a joker could go down to the local health spa (etcetc) with camcorder and do same....

I've ani/captured clips - but one is about 3 minutes and I've put a hell of a lot of work into that. I'm not sure how to market this if it's even possible. But in light of that sometimes silly stock stuff (aliteration) there may be a chance.

My question is, in the new Property Herarchy Tab where can I find the options to configure the link attributes: ERC Type, Scalar, Save with, like in the following image of the old property editor tab:

I am looking in to getting an additional GC or 2 for Iray and I only have two spare slots in this Micro system

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16
(The PCI Express x16 slot conforms to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
* Whether PCI Express 3.0 is supported depends on CPU and graphics card compatibility.

2 x PCI Express x1 slots
(All PCI Express slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)

The first Slot houses the main GC that is not used for rendering at all.

I see that a high number of the Geforce range uses PCI-E 3.0 x 16. How does that effect me and the performance of the card if plugged in to a PCI-E 2.0 slot?

I can't tell you how many times I've been dissapointed with expression packs, post purchase, when the amount of the expression applied is unusable on a character.

I hope that others implement the use of dials when expressions are applied, so we can dial in the amount that works with a character, without distorting the face drastically.

Also, I would love if this partial expression application was used more often in others releases.

So I've been working on upping my skills with modeling of late. I've read many things here and elsewhere on the topic of using Boolean operations. The prevailing opinion is always don't use 'em or the world might stop orbiting the sun and thousands of crickets will take up residence in your bedroom.

I get it... I think. I haven't run in to a circumstance yet where only a Boolean would solve whatever it is I'm trying to do. However, I am curious of what are the actual dangers of using a Boolean to quickly achieve the structure you're looking for? I'm assuming the problem would be the operation creating some invalid geometry, or something along those lines. If I were forced to use Boolean for some unknown reason, what would I need to look out for after applying it?

I know there are other sites out there where this question would probably reach a larger number of people who could answer, but I figured I'd start here.

This is not a complain, just a suggestion and I'm probably not the first who mention this.

I appreciate it very much if I get a product for DS and PS, but I wonder if it is possible to reduce the size of the files we have to download.

Just as an example the great new "West Park Hydrotherapy".

It comes with a full DS file (405 MB) and a full PS file (395 MB). If I unpack both files into the same folder and create a new ZIP file I get one file with 415 MB (a bit more than 1/2 of the original size), because both packages share a lot of files.

Wouldn't it be possible to create 3 instead of 2 ZIP files (one for DS, one for PS and one with the content used by both packages)?

With kind regards,

I was just in my Daz account and decided to reverse look up all of the merchandise I've purchased over the years. Lots of money there but lots and lots of memories. Getting referred by a friend..... getting started and knowing absolutely nothing. I still know nothing but it sure is fun to remember how we, as a community, worked together, socialized and really enjoyed the 3d industry. I still enjoy it. It is my sanity check. I sure miss the old times. Do you?

Is Encrypted DAZ-Connect the way of the future ?

Is Encrypted Daz Connect the way of the future ? or a path to commercial oblivion ? I'm sure Daz management have laboured long and hard on this question.

To start off, don't get me wrong. I am in favor of protecting vendor rights. The normal sale of 3D products is what drives and rewards the development of the software and the multitude of vendors that product 3D model products. Particularly since Daz is now well down the path of giving away the software in order to encourage the purchase of 3D model products.

But I think Daz needs to quickly learn the lessons of the Book publishing industry which have embraced DRM. For several years digital book sales has been growing until in recent years it has out stripped the physical book sales. But last year this trends is reversing largely due to Digital Rights Management (DRM).

DRM needs to be universal and not tied to a single piece of software (and usually a single vendor) or else the use of DRM is in fact delivering greatly reduced value to the customer. Now this OK, provided the sale price reflects this reduced value to the customer. Where digital book sellers are getting into trouble is that they want full price for a restricted use product. And many customers are beginning to lose confidence resulting in falling sales. This reduced value to the customer is also what drives the army of "hackers" that rage against DRM. And their combined resources are bigger than that of any company, so who is likely to win that technology race? Even Micosoft struggles to stay ahead of that one. Threatening to sue is not the answer, as this just makes every customer (even the legitimate ones) a potential target of legal action and consequently - the enemy. Not a great business plan for long term commercial success (a few rock bands have learned this the hard way).

The current business plan for Daz seems to be along the lines of moving to Encrypted Content and in doing so delivering greatly reduced value to the customer due to the restricted usage. And at the same time charging the same price as the unrestricted products. Also Daz-connect wants to down load everything rather than allow you to install a local copy. This adds to the cost of ownership (internet download costs) and further reduces the value to the customer. And the "BIg Brother" overtones are unavoidable, regardless of what anyone says.

As an alternative approach to delivering LESS value (by DRM restrictions), how about delivering MORE value to customers who have legitimately purchased products.

For example, one of the problems I have is that I own a large number of Daz products and I find it hard to organize them so I can choose the best product for a project I am working on. If Daz provided an online currently owned product catalogue (much like the Daz store but with a check box for "only show items I own"). This would ADD to the value of owning a Daz product - because you can find it when you need it.

Or perhaps some links (from an owned product catalog) to product specific tips and special usage instructions.

For the moment, I am keeping my cross-platform rendering options open. Because I don't know where all this will end up. And what might happen to Daz's prices if they think their customers are locked-in and can't go anywhere else ?

What Daz needs is some creative ways to ADD value to the customer for purchasing a product, not ways to REDUCE value to the customer by restricting usage. (Unless of course you are going to reduce your prices by 50-60% across the board not including the usual transient and bizzarely complex discounts structures).

Does anyone else have some ideas on how this might be done ?
