New users of DAZ Install Manager (DIM)

If you just recently started using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) or recently upgraded DIM, you may want to check the content installation path settings.

The default installation path the DAZ Install Manager installs to is: C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

Please follow these steps:
1) Open DIM and log in.
2) Click on the gear icon in the top right corner.
3) Click on the Installation tab and you will see "Label" and "Path" and will see the path in which DIM is installing to.

You may need to add a new directory to the DAZ Studio Content Directory Manager.

Please follow these steps:
1) Open DAZ Studio
2) Click on the Edit menu located at the top left.
3) Click Preferences...
4) Click on Content Library (top right)
4) Click the bottom button "Content Directory Manager"
5) Click the arrow next to DAZ Studio Formats to open it.

If the path that DIM is installing content to is not present, you will need to add it.

You can do this by selecting DAZ Studio Formats. You'll know it's selected because there will be an orange outline around it. Then click the "Add" button on the left under directory. Browse to the Installation path from DIM (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library) and click Select Folder.

Now you should see two paths:
1) Your original installation path before you installed using DIM (C:\Users\username\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library)
2) The new DIM install path (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library).
Click Accept in the Content Directory Manager and restart DAZ Studio.

So....DIM suddenly stopped working...

I assume this is just on my end and doesn't affect others. Right? I wouldn't be surprised if Comcast has put up another flirewall block on it because they think it's a virus or something (They've done that to block access to certain ubuntu package sites...so tired of having one whole option for internet). But, before I deal with bozo land, I figured I would double check here to see if anyone else is having trouble. Basically, I purchased the nature bundle and one other item yesterday and nothing has appeared. I had made a large purchase the day before and that all worked fine, so it's a relatively new issue. I had this happen once, but it was on a very large order (and took about 48 hours to for the items to show up)

Help with controllable dynamic cloak

I'm trying to use Daz's Controlable Dynamic cloak. I've been able to get the dynamic cloth to drape properly. But I can find no instructions on how to get the control or loops to work. Any ideas anyone.

It's my one year anniversary using Daz studio and while my bank account might not appreciate it much, I certainly do.

Firstly I'd like to say a huge thank you to the community here, I wasn't in a great place when I started (divorce and life troubles!) but found a hobby that truly helped me leave behind that old chapter of my life. I tried Daz originally in 2012 and uninstalled it within a day. Last March I tried again and thanks in large to the community here and tutorials I made it work!

So some specific thanks to some community members @knittingmommy @Novica @chohole @timmins.william @isidorn @wsterdan @icecrmn @Linwelly and @Ati (The fast grab/ flash sale thread is genius!!) This is not an exhaustive list there are so many amazing folks out there!

Now for the PAs, thank yous for great products and taking time to reply to messages helping me out - @AntMan @Marshian @Lyoness @Sickleyield @Merlin @Stonemason @V3Digitimes @jepegraphics @DimensionTheory @AlessandroAM @JackTomlin @Zev0 - again not exhaustive!

Finally thank you to the Daz Studio teams and customer service, we don't always seem to appreciate the work that goes into everything and the efforts made to fix issues as and when they crop up but even at the busiest of times we do know we will get help from you.

i'm looking for something that rises well over the ankle but not up to the knee. lace-ups with visible shoestring ties, preferably.

all suggestions appreciated. any pointers or tips on griming, scuffing, and adding sole wear very welcome, too. thanks!

The Shadows Are Watching You...HELP!

I'm trying to get a character's shadow to have "eyes" and a "mouth", so that when I animate it, you can see the shadow bliink and talk on the wall.

I tried this by hiding parts of the head (skinHead, eytes, teeth, tongue) and shining spotlights through the eye holes, but it only makes the eyes on the wall really big. Adjusting spread angle doesn't help much.

Any ideas how to accomplish this effect?

Modern spacesuits for Gen 3 females?

They're probably out there and I'm just not seeing them, but are there any realistic, modern spacesuits for the Gen 3 female? I'd like to do a Mars or Lunar scene and actually have it look "right," not radically futuristic or anything like that. Think about the suits used on Apollo and Gemini missions, and perhaps in movies like, "The Martian," which were a bit stylized but still within the realm of the plausible.

I need to put "Victoria 4 Muscle Maps" on "Genesis 2 Female" so I used

"Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female"

and

"V4 Skins Auto Converter for Genesis 2 Female"

I changed the "UV Set" to put the "Victoria 4 Muscle Maps" on "Genesis 2 Female" succeed finally

but

As you can see the screenshots for compare below, the Maps has a little bit distorted on the legs of G2F, so I'm looking for any idea to fix this problem, please show me your idea as details and step by step here!

I'm working on DAZ Studio 4.8 pro (64-bit) under OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

I want to publicly thank the DAZ moderators for giving me another chance at visiting the forums. I've been a DAZ supporter and Poser user since 1999. At that time I rediscovered Poser and the online forums. I had bought Poser v 1 back around 1996, and never learned it. At that time, I was living in Maine, and newly married. Things change, time passes. In 2014, I talked with my Dad, and decided it was time to move back to Minnesota. My family has moved around over the decades. We were apart for almost 30 years. My Dad is 88, and we figured he'd remain in the same place long enough to make a final move on my part worthwhile. I was divorced in 2005, but hung around Maine for a few years.

I had lived in Minnesota, from 1974 to 1993. I moved to Hastings, MN in 2014. I live in the same building with my brother David. I had not seen him for 25 years. I was 49 when I started my 3D journey, here at DAZ and other forums. I'm 66, and in many ways my life has never been better. I switched from PCs to Macintosh computers back in 2007. The Macs cover all my needs except for 3D Art.

I'm older & wiser. I plan to keep a fairly low profile here at DAZ Anyone who wants to know more about my everyday life experiences can feel free to watch my YouTube videos. You can find the link in my signature.

Disabling shadows from objects

Is there a quick and easy way to turn off objects casting shadows in DS4.9? I'm rendering a scene that I want to convert to a black and white line drawing, but one of the things I don't want is objects casting shadows on it....

Locating Obj on start up.

I have a huge scene that uses a number of .OBJ objects. Now I've since backed up those objects and formatted my pc, so the objects are no longer in the same locations as they were. When Daz starts it says it cannot find x file and asks if I want to locate it, but with OBJs it doesn't seem to work the same way. It just gives a long list of objects it cannot find with no option to locate them, and then when the scene starts, it substitures those objects for massive blue rectangles.

How do I tell Daz where those .OBJ files are?

Regarding generation names - just a stupid thought in hindsight... ;o)

The thought just struck me - if the fifth generation of DAZ figures had been called Regenesis instead of Genesis then the small amount of confusion that references to gen3 (as in DAZ generation 3, i.e. Aiko 3 et al) and G2 male/female (as in G2 Jessi/James/Kelvin/Koji/Olivia) could have been totally avoided.

And Regenesis to me sounds a beautifully appropriate and technically correct term too, so I'm sure that DAZ seriously considered that name...

...but then again, the thought of having the DAZ flagship figures nicknamed as Reg and Regina probably put the kaibosh on that !

Any word on the Generation X2 plugin for Genesis 3?

Well I was wondering if there was any word on the G3 plugin? The reason I ask is I'm interested into moving to G3, but there are shapes I can't move on without. If it's not coming out, there is another product that can do the job, although not as elegantly. One of my characters is 6 foot 5 inches tall and transfering her can be a pain with the transfer utility.
