Just a question , If I delete my Daz account and some time later will decide to create a new account again with the same personal information( exact email, etc.) , will all my content ordered at the Daz marketplace be available again ? I have so many issues right now with Daz 4.9 Pro and DIM installments I wonder if it is an account issue , maybe I have a corrupted database on daz' side . Tech support is aware of the DIM install/Daz 4.9 Pro install problems but I don't feel for waiting till that update arrives.
My main problem is the fact that , although all my Daz /DIM settings (paths , doenloads etc.) are correct, Daz 4.9 Pro does not recognize all my DIM installed products and I only can acces these prods in DAZ 4.9 Pro after I installed them AGAIN with that Daz Connect nonsense feature and this uses up my HDD free space. Also the annoying missing thumbs cannot be fixed( the white ones with exclamation mark) These problems are well known at Daz but they have no solution to it

Only thing Daz support does is having me resetting the DB and doing DB maintenance for a month now.

I opened the DS 4.9 Store pane today. I had Genesis 3 Female selected in the Scene pane. I searched the Store for hair. The store showed me a hair product I don't remember seeing in the web browser store interface. It is called Miho Hair for Genesis 3 Female(s) by SWAM with SKU 24469. I can't find a readme for it in the WIKI, either. Strange. Maybe tomorrow's release, or a pulled product?

In about a week I will collect a new PC. At the moment I use a Mac and my content is in my user folders under Documents/DAZ3D/ - I have one Library for DIM installations and another for legacy V4/M4 and Poser format content. In short, I don't let DIM install to the default shared (public) directories because I want my content under my user account.

A few months ago I created a similar install on an old PC - just for testing - by creating a mirror copy of my DAZ3D folders on an external drive then plugged the drive into my Windows PC and copied them back to my Windows user account. It seemed to work but I have used it very little since then. My concern is that some products need to be installed "properly". For example, when DIM installs it sometimes asks for permission to make changes. I have no idea what system files it changes but I'm guessing that a straight coopy will not carry over those changes.

I really don't want to use DIM to install 200GB of content (my ISP would probably block me) so I'd appreciate advice on the best way to migrate it while maintaining my library structure as I have it on the Mac. A second question is can the database be duplicated too?

I see that DAZ supports .fbx files, which is a common extension/file type in Unity content. Has anyone ever successfully imported .fbx files from Unity into DAZ?

If you have, could you let me know if the textures are compatible from one program to another?

*note: I'm not concerned with rigging. I'm looking at a few simple low poly scenery toonish environments for my comics...

People usually ask the reverse, but I'm not a game maker who is interested in importing from DAZ into Unity - I would like to import and blend several element scenes from Unity with DAZ content inside DAZ studio.

Hi,

Weirdly enough, doing my best to get better at iRay lighting I wanted to try my hand at making an emmisive globe. What I'm getting is nearly what I want but it's casting a shadow. How I look at it when it's essentially a light bulb shouldn't the shadow be more hazed out and perhaps reflecting a bit of color rather than a dark shadow? That's how I see that anyways. Perhaps I'm wrong but if not then perhaps some kinda soul can steer me in the right direction.

Firstly I did apply the iRay emissive shader to the globe and then tweaked from there. Below is the test render and the light settings.

Thank you

I've been making a dress for MFD. I plan to put it out as a freebie because, well, I have a lot of free stuff, so I want to give back:)

I have all my maps made. I have my settings in 3DL, Iray, and Reality more or less set*. I have the shape levers for MFD set.

Here are the questions going forward:

***How do i save it?

Saving as Material Preset has given me the colors/shaders stuff, but not the shape.

Saved a Wearable preset, but instead got the model I was using, not the dress.

*** I'm using G2F's MFD to build this. I'd like this to work on Gen and G3F's. I've tested the Material presets I made, and those work on Gen, but going back to the previous, I was wrong on how to get the shape right.

*** I'll be looking for someone to test this once I get it all saved and packaged in the different render engines. Any volunteers:D

So, for the first time I'm having to render a bigger scene (3 big scenes, actually). And it seems my system has reached its limit. I'm looking at about 20 people in combat in Aslan Court. So far, I've got the characters designed and dressed, but haven't done any scene layout or posing yet. I'm trying to use Iray, since it's what I'm used to and it looks so nice, but even trying to render a test block of about 15 people crashed DAZ. I have managed to render the test blocks in 3DL, but some of the skin renders blank and I'm not really set up for it.

I'm thinking I might be able to render some of it in pieces then layer them together in photoshop, but not sure. I'm also on retextureing a low-poly zombie hord prop I picked up to look more like normal fighters so I can fill in the background.

Can I get some advice on how to do this without crashing the system?

Also, any advice on staging big crowd battles?

Has this been spotted previously? If so, I missed it. If you own the set- did you?

Books on your shelf include:

Building the Cupcake Tower

Render, Rinse, Repeat

Konicheewahhhh

Hole in the Hand

And don't forget to go top view for the acorn who is an Innocent Wanderer. You can also read the article, "How Did It Get There? It All Started With An Egret." (The author of the article is bilingual- the article is in Latin.) (So put those two together and the acorn was deposited by an egret. Also, note the birds by the books.)

But wait, if you go to the books on the bottom of the cabinet, you can see the author of Hole in the Hand is Alton Hubbersnatch and you can view the delightful cover. You'll also get to see there is another great article- "Where Some Get Lost" (Subtitle-He found something that changes everything.)

Happy reading. (It's a really nice set btw. Look at the carpet texture. Good attention to details.)

I need someone to make models of a lady playing a large harp. This will be for a fantasy art project, so a fancier harp (no strings needed) would be nice (I already have harp models, but might be easier to include one for ease of posing lady), the lady should be young and attractive with long flowing hair and maybe a fantasy-oriented flowing gown, with nude options, or I'm open to other fantasy-oriented ideas (I see some killer outfits as I snoop around). I'd like to have this model(s) so I could import it/them into Bryce for rendering.

I've been away from 3D modeling for some time, and gotten old, and forgotten much I once knew (long sad story). I really want someone to work with me on the lady and harp, but I don't intend to make changes forever. This would be mostly for fun, but I would be willing to pay for the final models, based on my thrill of the finished models, etc. This won't make anyone rich, but will help buy some new model figures or software, or just have extra pocket-change. But the focus should be on fun and the expeirence, not the modest cash (through PayPal).

Any interested parties should PM me to discuss. I'd like to see some of your previous modeling projects to learn about your talents. Depending on how well we can work together, I may have other projects as well. Thanks!

I hope this request isn't breaking any forum rules! Or if there's a better place to make such a request please let me know.

All the best!

Cartoon look

Thought it'd be useful to start a kibbitzing thread here about how to get good anime and cartoon looks.

Things I've worked out:

PWToon I'm happy with. Getting a two-tone shadow/regular look can be achieved by setting the shader's Diffuse Upper and lower Bound to the same value. 0% seems to work pretty well, but if you want more shadow coverage you can increase it.

Use ambient lighting to, effectively, set how dark that second shadow tone is.

Anime Eyes or something like it is useful to get a drawn look to the eyes. The most useful thing is the reflections, to artificially plop in stylized eye reflections. Possibly also the eyelash effect, but I haven't figured out how to add that.

Hiro 3/4/5, Aiko, Keiko, and other anime style characters can be useful to get the right 'look.' But not strictly necessary -- increasing eye size and nudging the face with standard morphs can get you to good anime looks, depending on what particular style you are going for - anime is broad, not to mention more western cartoons. The biggest thing is getting a drawn look to the eyes.

Hair can be tricky, but this freebie is awesome:

http://nekketsukyoujin.deviantart.com/art/Anime-Hair-Set-1-for-Animedoll-89485450

The final clue to my puzzle/look came to me after watching Archer... no highlights! OOooooooh.

Consider:

First side is what I was getting earlier and being frustrated by. Simply setting specular strength to 0, and bam.

Does Kiki work well in DS 4.9? I know she's a bit older, so I was curious whether she works with no problems, just maybe tweaking of her surfaces.

Figured this warranted a separate thread... quote:

nonesuch00 said:

Mind you, skin is a bit tough to pull off. The skin default I have relies on two very similar colors, and I've already learned a huge amount more since I first played with the shaders.

I'm starting to contemplate a new shader with something like toggle noise or something, and then more options, like top coat color and whatnot.

I've external searched in hope of finding some clues as to how to approache it but it's still seems beyond what I could manage in the Surface Tab.

e.g. this link - http://www.orbolt.com/asset/_danylyon::PBR_skin

So starting at your pale skin shader and looking at the pictures in the link above (didn't buy it because I don't have Houdini) and also using a Gimp 'color picker' from a set of reference photographs from also a very pale person I found there is a deeper layer of quite a few slightly varying closely alike colors that make a visibly discernable mottled pattern (I think people call that look commonly being flushed). I think it must be related to fat and blood distribution and the similar pattern should be there for everybody but not as easy to see with the eye. I'm just going layer by layer from what I've learn so far and that's not even considering pores, sweat glands, hair follicles, load bearing areas like the clavicles, sheen and so on.

I looked at the pale skin.duf you made and was surprised to see it was so long. You mention perlin noise & such but I guess until I read how to modify the DAZ Studio shaders I will be stuck at the Sufaces tab messing around with colors and sliders and drop down tabs. I'm kind of curious now though so I'll read about DAZ Shader tomorrow I guess from their documents. :-)

It took me a while and I'm learning. ;)

One problem is that the Iray Uber shader is... clever. There are modules that aren't loaded unless you turn certain things on. Like, top coat and emission items don't appear in the shader block unless they are on (emission to non-black, top coat to weight > 0)

If you just copy Iray Uber shader to the shader mixer and start working, it will be permanently missing these modules. I had to redo the shaders a few times, because I didn't realize stuff had shut off. As it was, you will notice that my stuff is missing a top coat. Doh.

Now, this mutability is nice because it hides options you aren't using. The problem with the approach I took (which I think I pretty much had to without having 4x as many shaders)

I'm contemplating a new procedural shader that lets you switch on/off procedural whatever to a wide variety of things. Again, the approach I took is limited, because it ended up hard coding each combination of procedural whatever.

THEN the problem becomes that the bigger the shader, the more time it takes to process...

Tentatively, I'm hoping to also have two sets of noise so you can have one going to one place, another to another place, and maybe even various combination options.

(Of course, with free stuff, it's 'whenever I'm sufficiently motivated to do a lot of work for my own amusement')
