There is something which prevents me from buying most new characters: the lips. As with the new Hero 7, most men show a kind of blown-up lips, lips I wold expect on a beauty queen, female. In real life nearly all men I know tend to have much smaller lips.

Even the majority of the DAZ women don't look very much realistic with ballooning lips. Or they look like they just had their lips plumped. Yes, I know, with all these morpeh packs I can make the lips smaller or give them other forms. But if I have to change the faces much, I can start with basic Genesis figures, don't need the several other morphs. (Exceptions are figures like Bethany7, wich are definitely different and beautiful in their own right)

Am I the only one who thinks these appearance features look somehow wrong? Or is it intentional, because all other buyers wish for this overbording beauty standard?

Okay, it is quite simple, if you create hair for g3f that shows parts of the scalp please create scalps which makes it possible to make them fit to the head, means a scalp (hair) that has adjustment morphs which can do what they were created for. Don`t get me wrong, the adjustment morphs work but they are just good as the hair they were made for and if you have a very low poly scalp no adjstment morph can make it fit to a higher poly head. As written at the beginning it is quite simple. Here is an image with an example (If you have a look at the left eye region you can see what I mean).

And please no suggestion to make a subD out of the hair, that does not work, I have tried it. If you create a subD out of the hair some surfaces are not shown in the rendered image, I do not know why, you can see them in pre render but in the rendered image they are gone.

For my money the Chace Hairstyle by AprilYSH looks good on everybody. I also use the Sunny Tails and Edwardian Hair a lot.
The one hairstyle I wish they would update for Genesis 2 and 3 figures is the Petite Fleur by GoldTassel, which is really lovely, but hard as can be to try and fit to later genesis figures.

A comment was made on a post that Daz3d was becoming primarily a software for people thriving for "photo-realism" while poser was more for the aritistic look.

I thought about that, and determined that while it might not have anything to do with photo-realism vs artistic, there does (or did) seem to be a difference in the basic style of Daz renders as compared to Poser renders. I still see a lot of poser renders that are immediately identifiable by the uncanny valley expressions on the models, or the way the clothing seems to fit. This seems to be common with much of the promo art you see on Daz with items using V4 and genesis. The strange thing is that when one searches for items on the other sites such as Renderosity or RuntimeDNA, some of the most photo-realistic models you can find are for Poser only.

So are the look of the renders in each program a stylistic thing, or rather a software issue, or a mixture of both? And if it is a stylistic concern, do the programs even need to try and stay compatible as they evolve?

If I load Genesis 2 to my scene and apply a texture, and then add the gens and copy the hip texture to hips of the gens, is there a way to save out the texture so just the part of the torso that has been applied to the hips of the gens is saved?

I have tried the skin transfer utility, but nothing seems to happen. (When I copy the hip texture from the figure to the gens, the gens automatically get mapped as M4. I suppose that happens because I have that product by Slosh. (Hope I have his name right.) If I swtich it back to anything else, it won't be mapped correctly). But like I said, if I then try to transfer the skin with the Skin transfer utility, nothing happens. If I select the hips that are part of the body, then it saves some textures that just the hip part of the torso. But if I select the gen hips or the gens, nothing gets written and there is no error generated.

Or is it possible to do this with UV Mapper Pro, or 3D coat or Blacksmith or some other program?

I also thought of the Shader baker. I was going to try it. But I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I click to enter a folder to save to, but every time I enter one, nothing gets entered into the box for it. And since I didn't know where it was going to save the texture, I didn't want to try it and maybe over right my original textures.

I can use the textures the way they are, but it would be nicer and easier if you could just save out the part that is being used by the figure.

Thanks.

Is there an easy way to compare a list of shader parameters on one part of a figure with another to find out what is different?

I was rendering a figure yesterday and I noticed his hand looked like they were in shadows. But it wasn't a natural shadow. The shadow covered all the hands and fingers but ended sharply at the hips. It was a transparent "shadow" because I could still see the detail on the skin.

All I did was load the figure with his texture and then I selected the figure on everything in the shader panel that applied to him and then applied the !IrayUberSurface, so I don't understand why the hands aren't the same as the figure. But I figure that something must be different between the hands and the rest of the body.

So I was wondering if anyone has a better way of comparing two shaders. I have gone and written down all the parameters and then gone through and tried compairing them. But even that is all that easy because the list from one part to another is "sorted" differently.

On a Mac OS 10 latest everything

I’m trying to render this image in IRay but no matter what I try I can’t seem to light the eyes. (see image) Works fine in 3Delight.

Figure and base morph: V4

Mat: Sisterhood by AeonSoul

Eye Mat is also from th sisterhood package

Costume: Deathbringer. . . Altho I can’t see where that has any bearing.

Lighting: 2 distant and one spot for the face. (Tried point but it didn’t work either)
