Probably a stupid question, but...

Trying to use Gen X2 to put the Kenji7 shape onto Genesis1. The problem is there isn't really a shaping morph for Kenji 7 that I can find, instead there's a parameter inside of G3M to dial up or down Kenji7, and I think I need to save that out as a shapinp morph in the menu so that I have something to put into GenX2 as the 'shaping pose'. Ironically I can already use GenX2 to save Satori (a character morph of Kenji) onto Genesis1 with no trouble, simply because in the character folder tor Satori there is both a head and body shaping morph preset. But nothing like that seems to exist for the standard Kenji7, so I'm wondering if there is a way for me to save it/create it myself.

Just a little rant on my part. I am finding myself increasingly frustrated at the lack of instructions provided in many DAZ products. Again I have purchased an item which looked promising but of course no readme or instructions on how to use the dang thing. One thing about rendo products, you can view the readme before you purchase to see some information about the item. Here at DAZ, you purchase first, fiddle around with the product, then troll the forums to see if anybody can help. DAZ forums are great for this help and the DAZ community is the most helpful out there. But I would like it if some instructions are included in the product.

I was just downloading some mods for Skyrim (a game I've apparently put over 250 hours into and actually played for about 10) and remembered that many mods show user-uploaded images showing it in action. Many of these are better than the original images put up by the mod's author.

What do you think of the idea of having selected user-created images (chosen by the vendor) placed in a secondary 'gallery' (if possible) under the official promo images on a product's page? In my previous thread about material zone promos, it was mentioned that promo images are often aimed at showing what the product can do in a creative sense, to appeal to the potential customer's imagination. I would imagine that a dozen quality images made by satisfied customers would have the same effect, without the need to go searching in the galleries here and hoping that the customer used the correct keywords or added the exact product in their description. This could also show creative uses of the product, such as hiding walls in environments and combinations with various other props and figures, adding to the appeal of the item.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

PC Upgrade for Daz Renders - More Titan X or Move On to GTX 1080?

I am considering a new purchase. Here is my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/crkkQ7.

I bought everything with the anticipation of eventually putting 4 Titan X cards in it. I bought a really big power supply for such an occurence. My assumptiion was that even the new cards would need just as much power, if not more. My goal was to save up enough for an additional video card every 4-6 months. I knew that new nVidia cards were coming, so I waited until they came out. I wondered if anyone here had any advice on what I should buy for a 2nd card now, considering that I already have an nVidia Titan X?

The only disadvantage of the new GTX 1080 card is that is has 8gb of VRAM and I understand that if my scene exceeds that 8gb but is still under 12gb, then it will only use the Titan X even in Daz Studio for rendering. It seems that the specs of the GTX 1080 are just a bit over the the Titan X when it comes to rendering in Daz Studio. The 1080 seems vastly superior in terms of VR rendering which is a factor since I just purchased an Oculus Rift. But my main concern is rendering time in Daz Studio.

So here are my 3 options as I see it:

1. Buy a used Titan X from ebay. People are getting rid of them and manufacturers seem to have discontinued the card. You can pick one up for $600-$800 used. That way I have 2 matching cards and when I render now, I will still have the 12gb limit. If I purchased 2 GTX 1080 later, then I would still have 2 cards that a 12gb scene would render in. The GTX 1080 cards would then only get used for smaller scenes. I measured what I usually render and most are under 8gb.

2. Buy a GTX 1080 now. I don't know if there is an advantage with Daz Studio to have 2 cards of the same type. I could buy a brand new card for the price of a used Titan X. The only drawback is that scenes over 8gb would just be rendered back on the single Titan X that I have now. If I went this route, then I would likely either just fill the remaining 2 slots with 2 more GTX 1080 cards over the next year or wait until Nvidia introduces a 12gb card down the line for those last 2 slots.

3. Wait until Nvidia introduces a 12gb card with the new architecture. I would then buy just one of those and then fill the other 2 slots with the same card. I might even just consider replacing the Titan X at that point.

Overall, this is a 1 year plan for upgrading and I think I have a motherboard, chip, and power supply that can handle any of these options. So any advice is appreciated. Right now I am leaning towards another Titan X because it is the safest choice and I know it will make my renders fasters without question.

Next I want to move those claws so they stick outside.

Then I want to save those two poses and turn them into a single morph/slider that would make those claws sheathe in/out instead of manually pulling them out each time.

Is it possible to do something like this in Daz?

I usually preach how necessary it is to have backups of your original content and your installed content as well. I've done a pretty good job over the years. But this time I screwed up royally. I got rid of all the Poser & DAZ content I had on DVDs. I thought all the content had been copied over to a hard drive. It wasn't.

I'm not entirely sure of the exact losses. It appears I lost all my stuff from subscription services that went out of business. (Poser Style) is one. I had some pretty good Western Outfits from them. Most of my losses might be Michael 2 stuff.

I also lost my older Poser/DAZ Studio installations. Most of the older characters I created might be lost. When I discovered the problem, I moved the surviving files over to a 3TB hard drive, and re-purposes a 3TB Western Digital Passport drive as a backup. I'm backing up the surviving files now.

This is a good excuse to abandon older stuff!

I'm also reinstalling all my stuff manually. I'm breaking things down according to the various generations of characters, etc. That's how I discovered the loss of old stuff!

Loved her look as soon as I saw her and bought her immediately. I know she's not for Aiko but I'm treating her as one of my many new Aiko characters anyway v.v

But I have to ask... I was clicking all the settings to test everything out and ...are those nipples settings intentional? It seems quite an interesting choice.

GTX 980 TI (gb VRAM) often can't fit even 2 characters into VRAM. Is this because of Optix Prime?

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong here or what, but it's often the case that even two characters (and in some cases even one, with a lot of clothing) will either cause the render to default to CPU-only-mode or push the VRAM being used so high that, according to MSI Afterburner, I'm at 5.6, 5.7gb vram.

This is constent, too, meaning that it's not a matter of restarting or closing/reopening the program (although I have to do that sometimes to get the GPU to work again)

What I mean when I use the term "constant" is that for any situation in which 2 or 1 characters are unable to fit into VRAM, the situation is unaffected by restarting the PC or Daz3d.

In other words, even if I recreate the scene from SCRATCH, it'll be the casy that loading THAT model, with THAT skin, in THAT clothing, with Optix Prime enabled, will cause the VRAM issues to happen immediately.

Is this normal? Or is it just me. It's also very peculiar what causes it to happen. Sometimes I can fit up to 5 characters and lots of models into a scene with Optix enabled no problems.

Other times, even just a single prop like the bed from the Comfort Bedroom set all by itself won't fit into VRAM with Optix Prime Acceleration set to enabled.

(Also, resolution does not seem to affect this, either).

Oh, right, and I'm using the latest build of Daz3d (or I believe it's the latest. 4.9.2.xx)

Hi,

So, this winter I may be teaching an Intro to 3D Art class for my local park district and I was thinking about using Daz Studio as the application for this because of it's ease of use and it's definitely the app to introduce someone who is completely new to 3D art and working in 3D space. What type of problems would I face or hurdles I need to overcome for this? With it being a free software, are there any?

I will also talk to them about getting a free account with Daz and explaining the option of going PC if they wanted as well.

I guess I could use Blender or that low level version of Poser (Poser Debut, I believe) to do the same thing, but my first option was Daz Studio.

It took a while to get used to the whole IRay stuff, but of course I don't want to miss it anymore after having it used for a while compared to 3Delight. My question (and I apologize if I missed anything, not following the forums too closely): Are there any plans to introduce a GPU independent raytracer engine by any chance? Would love to see that.
