In the past I created only non-photoreal art with a lot of postwork to make characters look more 2D and stylized for mostly sci-fi and fantasy art and I have a ton of hair that looks great for that. But now I want to do some extremely photoreal images and I'm finding that many hair models, even with new Iray hair fix products don't look good because of the mesh, not the textures. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for long hair that looks photoreal even in extreme close ups or with wind blowing, and that bends correctly, doesn't clump into sections, get jaggedy or have an unrealistic hair line. Hair for V4 through G3 that looks completely photorealistic with the right shaders... Thanks. And if you'd like to post your renders, great! :)

BTW, I do own a lot of the recent V7/G3 hairs but find in close-ups, even with the best shaders, they still don't look photoreal to me, including some of the go-to hairs that you see in many promos...

I got to transfer G3M Morphs in the G2M figures thanks to GenX Addons in order to export them in Poser, but I have problems with the clothes. I can't export G3M clothes into Poser, I mean I can, but I can't conform them like I show in the picture.

I used this method:

But how can you see in the picture, the cloth can't be conformed. I tried using this method too:

But it didn't work either. I tried to save it as a wearable present, as a character present, as a shaping present, but that didn't work either, also I loaded the G3M cloth into the G2M figure and it could be conformed in Daz thanks to Autofit function, but I couldn't export it to Poser either. I don't have problems exporting G1 and 2M cloths in Poser using the second method, but with G3M clothes, it doesn't work. So, what I need to do, is converting the G3M clothes into G2M clothes in Daz and that way, I can export them to Poser without problems, the trouble is how?

Do you know any method to convert G3M clothes into G1 or 2M clothes in Daz Studio guys? I know Daz Store has a program called Wear them All, but I think it's only for G3F clothes and I need to convert G3M clothes.

So, can you help me guys?

Animating in DAZ: What is the easiest/lowest-learning curve method?

Edited: What I'm really looking for is the easiest to learn, fastest way to create good animation. The hardest thing we need to animate, I think, is a fight scene between two Viking warriors using swords & shields or spears and shields that needs multiple variations to show fighting techniques.

I was roped into creating the artwork and animation for my daughter's senior project, programming a 2D educational game in the game Engine Visionaire Studio. I'm using DAZ Studio for the artwork, but I need some animated sequences for walking, finding stuff, and Viking-style combat. I'm also very "amateur" at DAZ, even though I have tons of assets I've been collecting over the years I never had time to really learn it, so I'm learning it now.

The main figures I'm using are Genesis 2. I have one main character that uses G3F Priya, but if I have to, I can give that up, as I understand (perhaps) the additional bones mess up some animation conversions. I won't let it be a deal-breaker, at this point.

Searching through products and the forums and Googling the topic, it looks as if I have several choices: Buying animation sequences from Posermocap, SimonWM, BoneTech3D, etc. to use with Animate2 (?), using iClone, using Mixamo, or making aniblocks myself, or perhaps things working better if I use Carrara (which I own, but haven't used).. As a newbie, I have no clue which one of these is best, except I'm pretty sure that doing it by hand would be an exercise in futility.

I've tried Mixamo, which looks great when I upload a base figure and animate on their website,, but the character doesn't seem to load back into DAZ - I tried OBJ and FBX with G2F and G3F (then again, I'm a newb and might be doing something totally wrong).

Does anyone know the easiest way for a non-pro DAZ user to animate? What software is best? Are there directions somewhere that I am just missing?

I can't find iClone in the DAZ store so I don't know if DAZ is still affiliated with that and if it works and/or works easily. Does anyone know? Is using a third party tool easier or is it a waste of money?

Was I foolish to choose DAZ instead of Unity? (I've spent well over $1,000 so far on assets for this project. Probably way more, but I can't bring myself to go back and add it up.) Should I move over to something geared for 2D, such as Manga Studio (now named Clip Studio Paint Pro)?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Tutorial: How To Place Images In Your Post / Tips

There still seems to be some misconception or confusion regarding the ability to put images in your post. The thread which discusses the new forum has grown rather large, and the "how-to" has been buried, so here's one way to easily showcase your visuals in your post.

1. Click "Attach A File." Choose File will appear, and you browse/select your photo. It will download, and the image will appear below the post area, by the "Choose File" text.

2. Click Post Discussion. Your post and the thumbnail will appear.

3. Click on your thumbnail and when it appears, go up to the URL (www.daz3d.com/uploads/FileUpload/the long number) and highlight it with your mouse. Right click and COPY.

4. Hit your back button to go back to your post. IMPORTANT: PUT YOUR CURSOR WHERE YOU WANT YOUR IMAGE! Above the main textbox (the area where you are posting/reading this) in the icons, you will see a flag, and to the right of it, a square that looks like a postcard which has a sun and mountains. Mouse over it and you'll see it says IMAGE. Click it.

5. Image Properties popup appears. (SEE IMAGE BELOW.) Paste that URL (Right click / Paste) in the Image Info tab (which is there when the popup appears, you don't have to select the tab) where it says URL.

6. We'll go back to that tab, but now open the second tab, LINK, and paste the URL there too. Below the URL it says "Target." If you want the viewer to stay on your thread/post, open the Target submenu and select "New Window" (_blank) That means the viewer will get a full page popup and simply X's out of the image- and is still on your post. Very handy if they want to leave a comment. (EDIT: see first two posts below.)

7. Go back to the first tab, Image Info. Give this some thought for height/width. Although 800 pixels is allowed for width, your viewers may not be able to see the entire height of the image and have to scroll unless you have a horizontal image with limited height. A width of 400-600 works for most images which are more balanced in height/width. (EDIT- As mentioned below, the maximum is 800 pixels.)

8. Please take the time and do a description for Alternative Text- for people with speech enabled devices, who cannot see, it is a thoughtful thing to do. It also helps people who, for various reasons with their browsers, cannot get the image at all or in a timely manner.

TIPS:

If you want two side by side images, each one would have 400 for the width (the height will automatically change to keep the aspect ratio) and where it says Alignment, select Left for one, and Right for the other. (No more than 400 width, as there is an 800 pixel limit for width for inline posts.) Again, be sure you put your cursor where you want your image to start! It's really important on the second one. NOTE: That "This image has been resized to fit the page" will bump the second image down the page a bit.

If you only have one image, you can still use Alignment to put your image either at the left or right.

A consideration: Do you want people to read your post, then see the image at the bottom? Or see the image first? Put your cursor either before your text starts, to insert the image at the beginning of your post (and you decide alignment either left or right using the Image popup we discussed above) or put your cursor after the text.

Other people may have different methods (such as linking to an image from their gallery) and hopefully they'll share other "how to" methods and tips. Hope this helps.
