Forum help - suddenly cannot upload images

It was working fine earlier, but this moring I accidentally tried to upload a file in this thread - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/105691/tween-julie-7#latest - that was bigger than 2000 and ever since nothing I've tried to upload will load. My suspcion is that I overloaded the queue somehow, so I went to the help page to open a ticket...and discovered that there does not seem to be a help section for the forum software.

So... who does fix this kind of stuff?

FBX import in DS different than Carrara, why?

Anyone at DAZ care to explain why this is. I can import most standard FBX rigged models in carrara 8.5 and they load perfectly with rigging intact. I have yet to get any FBX rigged model to import into DS (4.8) in any useable way. I had a buddy of mine I used to work with at a game studio do a custom model for me and he sent it to me in the usual FBX game format and as usual, I have to pose it in carrara before importing the non rigged >OBJ into DS which gets tedious pretty quick, especially since it makes no sense, both programs share the same developer.

I am on 4.8 still and have no interest in connect or encrypted, but if you guys fix the FBX import to where I can pose and render my game models in DS, I will jump on board the connect/encrypted bandwagon, LOL.

Maps question

Hello.

Does anyone know what the difference is between Normal and Bump maps.

I've always thought that they were the same, but if they were, then Daz Studio wouldn't have options to add one or the other.

Plus, what are positive and negative maps? I've never heard of them before.

Shanda Hair Confusion

So in the Diva sale, "Shanda Hair for Genesis 3" shows Shanda hair with no install type, but with a comment about "see included products".

The only included products are Shanda Hair for V4 and also for M4. I see no product + install type for the Genesis 3 version.

Am I missing something?

I am guessing that most customers, like myself, have an item or two that has been sitting in the wishlist for a long time waiting for a sale. Perhaps you could give everyone a coupon for 50% off any one item. [Yes, I know it would probably exclude new items and PC+ items, but hopefully it would stack with the 30% discount Platinum Club members usually get.] This could give many people a chance to finally get that desired item at a sale price.

I am thinking of creating some poses for G3M. I am thinking of using RawArt's Slim Man's no face mask to make G3M as a manikin for my Promos. In order for this to work I need to make a new texture set to turn Slim Man into a manikin. I was wondering how far should I go with this texture set. I am planning on using FWSA Skinvent Details Merchant Resource for Genesis 3 Male(s) for the base texture but it will be modified for my needs for the pose promos and thumbnails. I was wondering if I should continue working on it to make a character product with the manikin option? Not sure how much in depth I need to do this.

I do not know if this affects anyone else but threads like the complaint thread where posters quote each other in sequence make the forum search using a keyword just about impossible for me.

I will most likely be dismissed as a whiner but since nearly every topic is dominated by a series of inline quotes page after page I have to rely on Google site search that often gives foreign language results that do not stay loaded among other issues .a topic site:daz3d.com

I just wish there were a way to eliminate quoted posts if the body of the quote has already been repeated for the last five search pages or better still eliminate a whole thread. ( there is one main culprit)

I am thinking about trying to make a backdrop prop.

To do so, I would need what is essenially a folded plane, not unlike the picture.

Is there a way to do this in D|S?

An alternate idea I have would be to set up several planes for each section, export them as an object then reimport them, which in theory would weld them together....would this be a better idea?

This outfit has amazing detail, fits the character wonderfully, and should be commended.

I haven't been so impressed with an outfit, after loading it like this, since Utilize did Complicated Eve.

There are other outfits that have recently come out that have impressed me as well, but I felt this one really deserved it's own spotlight.

Warning: New Purchases May Not Work With DAZ Studio 4.8

Today I bought a new clothing item which will not work in version 4.8 of Daz Studio. Daz support confirmed the issue:

I just installed and tested in 4. and it is definitely a 4.8 issue. Updating to 4.9 should fix the issue.

Yes, technically the product page lists the "Compatible Software" as DAZ Studio 4.9 but it's unusual to cut off support for the previous version so quickly. Due to various reasons we don't need to repeat here, not all users are jumping on the 4.9 bandwagon.

Unless Daz can provide some guidance about what works and what doesn't, all 4.8 users will now need to exercise extra caution when buying. Be prepared to go through the refund process.

I don't expect a company to provide backward compatibility forever. Actually, Daz has been pretty good about supporting older content. But cutting off users of the previous version of Studio so quickly gives me pause about continuing to buy new items.

I avoided mentioning the PA and item involved since it's not their fault. They developed the product under 4.9 and had no idea there could be an issue or issues which would render it unusable in 4.8. That's something that Daz should have warned them about, assuming they knew about the bug.

For the record, it was the JeanZ product introduced today (http://www.daz3d.com/jeanz-for-genesis-3) and the attached pic shows what happens to it under 4.8. Again, this is not a slight against the PA The3DWizard. I'm sure he is more concerned by the situation than I am.

Guardian Outfit G3F problems

The bikini bottom deforms HORRIBLY in certain poses - and these poses aren't whacky poses or anything out of the norm. I want to include a screenshot but not sure if it'll be allowed as it is a crotch shot. The pose is a simple one with G3F on one knee with the other knee up, and the front of the bikini bottom just goes kablooey.

Also the boots.....when G3 is kneeling and her toes are flat against the ground, but the rest of the boot is kinda up....the toe part of the boot flips right up exposing her toes. There is a "zero toes" pose included, but applying that just straightens her foot out which is useless in a pose.

I'm just trying to see if I'm missing something before I send in a ticket.

Also can I show the screenshot of the deformed crotch area of the bikini bottom? model has texture on but there is no pubic hair nor is it a graphic genitalia area.
