If you're anything like me, you're just not that into buying pose packs - so when I saw that today's sale was all about poses I had a less than excited reaction. But before you go all "meh" about this sale, you might want to look twice (I'm glad I did). A lot of stuff in this sale isn't just poses. Oh no - many of the items listed come with goodies! From weapons, to buildings, to outfits, to dogs and horses and even characters/figures bundles.

I did some hunting and found quite a few of the sale items that come with goodies. I thought I'd share what I found here (keep in mind that I might have missed a couple and that some of these things come with only one goodie while others of these come with many goodies). So here's some of the sale items that come with other things other than just poses:

I hope that I've helped you guys find something(s) that you like. There are a lot of great items in this "poses" sale that are way more than just poses! :) I really wasn't going to pay much attention to this sale, but then saw that there where quite a few items with added goodies and some up to 79% off - that made me quite a bit more interested! :)

What is the "benchmark" file people use to guage system speed?

Running into some problems that make me wonder if I'm encountering a bug or if I'm just being dumb.

For the life of me, SSS seems to do exactly nothing with UberSurface or UberSurface2 in latest DS. I don't remember if it worked before for me.

Can someone confirm?

how do you impliment timing with sub tracks in animate2?

I am learning how to use sub-tracks and getting to grips with it ok so far but still have questions. I know how to add sub-tracks but I don't get how to impliment the timing of something in the sub track you want done. Its easier to explain by example; say I wanted someone to just walk along (which I use an aniblock for this) then about half a second into the walk have her turn her head to the right. I do this with the sub track and it seems to work BUT it works as soon as I start playing it, I mean her head does not turn when its a second into the video but its turned as soon as its started. Am I missing something here with timing in order to make this possible if you can? the video shows what I have done so you can see what am doing anything wrong.

Also I had another quick unreleated question; is the puppeteer tab solely for making aniblocks that you save and use in animate2? I just had to confirm.

does anyone actually animate with animate2?

I look around online and seem to come across very few actual animations made with animate2 other than a whole lot of tutorials on utube etc. I just was curious if anyone really uses it and if they do ....where are there some actual proper videos of it in use other than tutorials and the odd test clip of some guy smiling for 30 seconds or something. I understand many users don't always upload their work which is fair enough but I just could not help but wonder if animate2 is just not used anymore by the general community.

Eyebrows aren't mirrors. Nothing, imo, throws off a closeup of a face faster than a cut and paste eyebrow. Even the most carefully groomed eyebrow isn't going to look EXACTLY like the other eyebrow.

I realize that many, even most, take the time to create subtle differences between the two brows - and that's much appreciated. To those of you who are copy and pasting the same brow and just flipping it over to the other side without any changes or mods, please please stop - it does not look good. First, it makes you look lazy (and considering how much time and work you put into creating your character and making nice looking skin texture, I know you aren't lazy) and second it just really makes the character look off. Even if people can't place what is "off" about it, the mirror brow is uncanny and unsettling. You wouldn't mirror freckles or skin spots, please stop mirroring eyebrows.

how do you use different camera angles in animate2?

Say I wanted to do an animation of someone just walking along then switch to another cam angle of him walking right up for a closeup shot at the end. What do I need to do for this in order to get the 2 camera positioned (1 at the side and the other at the end where he will walk) and so it records it. I am not sure how it works. Can someone please give me a brief explanation of how? thx.

I see the older generation 4 clothing for Daz studio is not dynamic and I wanted to use many of them in animate2 animations but it seems I cannot. There is not a huge deal of dynamic clothing avaliable. Is there a way to make non-dynamic clothing dynamic to use in animate2? thx.

Can someone help me who has bought the lights or? I may be overlooking or overdoing something, but once I load Elianeck's lights, they don't appear to resemble the promos that were posted via the advertisement. Is it something else I'm suppose to do? Did it download wrong? Maybe tamper with my own iray settings?

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to vyktohria for creating such a lovely plus sized character! I adore diversity in characters (George is AWESOME) and seeing more diversity in females has been something that's definitely needed! Bessie looks lovely and it's quite refreshing to see some size diversity in characters. And I want to encourage everyone who wants to see more diversity in the characters that the PAs make to speak with your wallets. Even if you're not a fan of her shape (personally I am, I think she's adorable), but even if you're not she has a lovely skin texture with a lightly freckled face and beautiful looking mats. (And, let's face it, many of you guys mainly buy the characters for the textures anyway lol).

I can see Bessie being a great addition to many art renders - from unconventional pinup shoots to "mom" roles and everything in between. Please consider purchasing her and sending out the message to Daz that we enjoy seeing characters every once in a while that are different and unique. Since George came out and now Bessie, I hope we end up seeing even more diversity in not just size but in character types as well. The more we buy characters that aren't the typical rehash of the same, the more we tell Daz that a wide varitey of characters have a place here and diversity is something we want to see more of.

She has some nice sensible outfits and a nice kitchen (via launch sale) but so long as there's no install type I'm just going to sit and watch for now. (This was fixed.)

p.s. It's great that everyone is now putting expressions on dials - now can we please have a list of what the expressions actually are on the product page? There are THREE new expression sets today (seriously?) and two of them don't say what any of the expressions are. Maybe no one else cares about this but last time I bought some I got a big list of numbered dials which is useless for time saving which is what they're meant to do in the first place.

Victorian Innocence - fit problem

When I load the Victorian Innocence corset, there's a lot of poke through. Isn't it supposed to fit by default on a zeroed V4?

I can expand it using some of the morphs but then it doesn't fit perfectly as on the promos.

Hi, have had a bit of time and built myself a stand chainsaw with some everyday morphing primitives by maclean and the blade and chain of vals Chainsaw. Textures from the everyday junk 3delight and a rust texture I have. Usefull for wood and other things . Have asked in the product suggestion forum if someone could create such thing (a while ago) and while the was no response I have created it on my own. Hope you like it.

The Cave Ogre!

Prince Aranhrod gazed across the battlefield. As predicted, his hatred for Duke Ragnar had gathered armies to rise against him.

What he hadn't counted on, however, was that almost half of those armies consisted of tribes of Cave Ogres.

The beasts were technically man-sized, but much stronger and tougher than ordinary men. The only saving grace for his own forces was that they were both clumsy and stupid. Very, very stupid.

Rumor has it that Cave Ogres aren't really ogres, but rather some sort of aggressive crossbreed between true ogres, and the vicious orcs that lived in the foothills. Driven out of the homes of both peoples, they eventually began to breed true in the caves that gave them their name.

He raised his sword, even as the opposing horde roared out their challenges. "Archers, fire! Everyone else - prepare to charge!"

The Cave Ogre is the latest high definition, high detail character morph for Genesis 3 Male, just the perfect thing to give all your heroes a viable threat to fight!

Genesis - Blender3d

As a blender person, the first time i set eyes on DAZ Genesis, i wondered how i could make the 2 softwares work together. collada seemed like a good option, but it has its limitations:
1. bones without children are not imported correctly
2. the armature itself is pretty basic and has no IK controls
3. morphs and animations are not exported at all (not sure whether it's my fault or not)

Anyways, so i wrote a blender script to fix the issues above. the script provides tools for converting the rig to a rigify (much more usable) rig. it also renames the vertex groups to make them work with rigify.
As for the morphs, i couldn't write a specialized script since i can't tell which morphs u've bought for your Genesis figure. so instead, i wrote a non-specific script that copies every shape key (morph) from one object to another.

here's the recommended workflow:
NOTE: if you dont want morphs, skip to the "rigging" section.

MORPHS
NOTE: you only have to do this once.
1. in Daz Studio, under the parameters tab, enable hidden properties
2. export each of the morphs you need as an obj including the Genesis base
IMPORTANT: dont make the same mistake i made. be sure to test the export settings early in the process(after exporting about 3 morphs) to make sure it works well in blender. and also enable the "Keep vert order" option in blender's obj importer
3. import the base obj mesh into blender and then the rest of the objs. in order not to overload blender, import about 20 at a time and go to step 4
4. select all the imported morph objects and select the Genesis base as the active object and click the "Copy all shapes" button or Properties window>mesh data tab> vertex groups panel>transfer shape. delete the morph objects to make room for the next batch. go back to step 3 and import the next batch of morphs
by now you should have a Genesis figure with all the morphs. this will serve as your morph bank, so make sure you save it and make copies and backups.

so every time you import a Genesis character, just append (shift+F1) your morph bank into the scene. select your character and select the morph bank as the active object. go to Properties window>mesh data tab> vertex groups panel>transfer shape.
Scroll to the bottom of the list of shape keys and move the last shape key all the way to the very top. yeah, make it your 'Basis' shape key

RIGGING
1. export your Genesis character and clothes using collada
2. import into blender
3. select the character and click the "Setup Metarig" button (this does not work with Genesis 2 figures)
IMPORTANT: select any object and then select the metarig again before the next step
4. select the metarig generated in step 3 and then go to the properties window> object data tab> rigify buttons panel and click "Generate"
5. select the character and all clothing items and then click "Setup vgroups"

this rigging process is limited by the fact that neither blender nor collada has any direct support for tri-axial weight mapping. there are a lot more tools in the script.

How do you organize your Photoshop Brushes?

What is the best way to organize Photoshop brushes? What methods do you use?

I'm trying to find alternatives, because I am trying to find my way out of a weird glitch... which is absolutely driving me NUTS!

I have acquired lots of Photoshop brushes. So a few days ago I went to install one of Ron's brushes, and... ALL of my brush presets were MISSING! Naturally this evil event occurred when I decided to work on my Photoshop brush skills...

Utterly perplexed, I spent 1.5 hours reinstalling new brushes. The following day, they went missing again (this includes a bunch of custom labels I had created a second time). So I called Adobe, and found that my version of Photoshop was out of date, and that my brushes were not in the Photoshop default folder. Funny how it never mattered before.

After I updated Photoshop, I reinstalled the brushes (about 70% of them) and recreated my custom labels - this time I saved those as a brush set. Lunch time the following day, and everything looks good.

I check it in the evening, and... you guessed it: gone.

The only other thing I can think of is that a week before all of this happened, Windows 10 had upgraded. There is a remaining glitch in that the Power button still has "update and shut down" that won't go away. So it looks like I will have to call Microsoft (wish me luck).

In the meantime, I was looking at some alternatives to organizing my brushes.

Instead of installing every brush I own, I could install just the brushes I want to use for a particular project, then delete them when I am finished. This will keep the brush list from becoming lengthy and unruly. But, what a pain to install and reinstall. Especially since I like the custom brush labels that separate my brush sets.
Installing a third party brush installer/organizer. That could be a good solution.
