Help desperately needed here please. I am working my wat through the user guide, I note co-incidentally, that the guide is for 4.6 and I am using 4.9. Anyhow, to the point. I have reached page 26 - 26, gaining confidence and clicking away like a maniac when suddenly I've lost the image I was working with. I tried clicking some more to try to reverse what I had done but without success. I tried 'File - New' and started a new practice run but the same problem exists. It seems that the image disappears when the program is in 'Actors, Wardrob and Props' I think I need to know how to re-set DAZ to it's original 'factory settings' is there way to re-set DAZ or will I have to delete the program and the re-download.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.

SOLVED: Possible incompatibility with Daz, ZenMate, and networked resources?

Howdy. I seem to have discovered a possible incompatibility between Daz 4.9 and ZenMate, when I'm using a networked drive to house my Daz resources.

I have the networked drive to keep all my resources in a central location. This lets me compose on a lower-power computer, and hand off rendering to another system while I keep creating new stuff. Most of the time it works without any difficulties.

However, I've noticed that occasionally when I load Daz I get that rather galling dialog box telling me Studio couldn't connect to the CMS, and that various resources won't be available. Stopping and restarting the CMS doesn't make any difference.

Well, this seems to happen more regularly when I have ZenMate actively working as a proxy server (in its system-ectension mode, not just in a browser window like with the Chrome plugin). When I switch the ZenMate proxy off, the CMS connection seems to work more reliably.

Has anyone else noticed this as well?

Bake Environment IRay shaders?

Is is possible to bake IRay shaders? The Shader Baker documentation in Daz specifically mentions 3Delight shaders only.

Would it be possible to bake a 3Delight shader, apply the IRay Uber base, and then use it in an IRay render?

I've got some highly detailed IRay environments that take hours to render. Even on my system with dual GTX 980Ti's. I assume that's because the creators didn't do a good job optimizing their IRay shaders, because my system can do a high resolution close up render of an HD G3 character in under ten minutes. Doesn't make any sense to me that the environment should be taking an hour or more. Wondering about ways to get around this issue.

I want to use DAZ Models in Unreal Engine 4. Are there any recommendations on how to best approach an PBR workflow with DAZ chracters?

When I export an FBX from DAZ Studio I get an Diffuse color texture which would serve as base color map. What would be the best workflow to get also a Roughness, Metallic and Specular map?

So for some reason I'm just noticing that G3F doesn't have separate surfaces for teeth tongue gums etc. I created a new group for the tongue becuase itr was looking so washed out - but is this how others are handling it? And if I save a material preset with this new tongue surface I'm assuming it won't apply properly to a model that hasn't had the group created for it - is that right?

Hello everyone,

My render times in iRay have been extremely slow for some reason, even if there is only one figure in the scene my CPU usage will go to 100%. To help troubleshoot why the times are so slow, I used the "Iray Memory Assistant Tool" and looked at my specs. I was under the impression that I had a beastly good computer, but when I looked at the available VRAM I only have 2 MB of space! How is this possible?

My computer uses the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M card. According to GPU-Z, I should theoretically have 3 GB of VRAM, correct? I thought this was an excellent graphics card, why is there only 2 MB of VRAM available? Can someone explain why this is happening?

Oh, I'm not sure if this is relevant but my computer uses 2 drives. The "C" drive is an SSD with 250 GB of space while the "D" is just a 1 TB hard drive. I have DAZ Studio 4.9 installed in the "D" drive. Would this impact anything at all?

So I understand that you can't create high definition morphs in Daz (IE: SubD above 1).

If you TRY to create a morph from a higher subd figure, does it simply make a lower resolution morph, or does it fail outright?

I can't be sure when this problem started, but it's been bugging me for a while now, so I finally decided to get some advice. The Genesis G-Suit and Supersuit fit fine on an unposed Genesis, even when the figure has several morphs applied. But as soon as a pose is applied, I get some substantial poke-through, especially on the limbs. Re-applying "Transfer active morphs" helps only partially if at all. I think this problem also affects a few other clothing items, though JeanZ (which I think I've had for longer than the G-Suit or SuperSuit) at least seems unaffected. The example pictured here is a completely unmorphed Genesis. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I'm using DSON Importer version 1.2.0.12 and Poser 11 Pro with the latest updates. Re-installing the importer did not solve the problem.

Hello!

I have a very nice full body morph, but I would like to spare the head morphs out.

Doing that is not as easy as I expected.

What I've tried now was to export only the head of Genesis 2 as an obj before I apply any morphs.

Then I applied the full body morph and wanted to put back the original head shape by choosing "Edit"->"Figure"->"Geometry"->"Update Base Geometry", "Update Vertex Positions" and load the exported head obj.

But when I try to do that, it tells me "The loaded geometry does not match the geometry it is updating. Vertex and facet count must be the same".

I investigated a little more and found out that it doesn't even work when I don't have my morph applied.

I then took a look at the exported head obj and noticed that it's not only the head, but the entire figure.

When I accidentally forget to select anything in the hierarchy and export as an obj, the obj is empty, so I thought the export function was also sensitive to the object (for example just the head) that I have currently selected.

Could anybody please tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Or if somebody has any other idea how to "mask" a part of the body from a full-body-morph, I would be really glad to hear it.

Thank you!

I'm looking for an effect where I'd like to create an object that would demonstrate a prismatic effect, such that, no matter which way one looks at an object, the render should have red on one side (say the left or bottom of the object) and blue on the other (one the right or top of the view in this example) and all the other colors in a gradient in between. I'm not sure how to do this sort of effect in Poser or DAZ.

Now, my question is, is there a way to do this by
1) setting up a series of planes aligned about a central axis that will render only from one side (the "normal" side, as was common in many early versions of Poser) and
2) only be visible in the render within a few degrees of perpendicular of (and naturally only one side of) any one plane?

Also, is there a way to set such planes to use a technique in use at Source FilmMaker called "jigglebones"? (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/$jigglebone)

Say for example, a series of 10 planes, each 36* apart, but each plane being visible in the render only if the camera is within +/-18* from perpendicular on any one plane...(if it's possible, I'm sure the numbers can be adjusted up/down, depending on the number of transparency planes being used, to make animated rotations look smooth)

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I got the iSource Wood Textures a little over a month ago, and I'm just now trying to get them to work. And I can't figure out how to make them go.

I eventually found them hidding in General instead of in Textures or Shaders. They're then divided into 7 folders. AO, DIFF, DISP, GLOSS, HEIGHT, NORM, ROUGH. I did some searching here and saw that others also got frustrated by these things, but none of the advice fully matched up.

I want to turn these things into shaders that I can click on and my surface now looks like wood.

So I've got a testing sphere with Iray Uber on it and everything else reset. Here's my guess on how to map things:

ROUGH => Diffuse Roughness
NORM => Normal Map
HEIGHT => (nothing)
GLOSS => (too many things)
DISP => Displacement Strength
DIFF => Base Color
AO => (nothing)

And what should all the other numbers and shades be set at? And once I've got everything assigned, how do I turn it into a shader?

I have searched all over the internet to find a solution. I have Genesis 3 Characters and when i record a BVH from the IPI Studio program or the Brekel Pro Body and try to import it to the Genesis 3 Character it never looks like the original animation recorded. It is very stiff the legs will not move properly and the bones do no match. Is there any quick fix to make the BVH work in the Genesis 3 Characters? I am at my wits in trying to make this work. Is there anyone with the same issue. Thank you!

Have a Nvidia quadro 4000 2GB and sometimes when i do complicated detailed scenes the amount of memory on my GPU dont seem to be enough, experience the dragging on my parameter settings and its a mess when trying to use the handles in the viewport. Know thar turning of some of the elements in the scene helps but i am aiming for a smooth creating process without all the iritation that comes, when the problems described above appear. So i figured perhaps a Tesla C 2050 will help to collect all those Texture maps that the gpu store in its memory during a scene creation. There is 3 GB of extra memory on board my PC if i install a Tesla card. So i am wondering if anyone knows if a extra Tesla card will help in the scene creation process or do i need to buy a GPU with more memory available.

Have tried to find an answer to this question at Nvidias forum and i was adviced to contact the software company i mostly use for 3D scene creation, so here i am at Daz3d asking the same question.

Thanks in advance Anders

Depth of field causing patterns on skin?

Please note this is not the same quesiton as the one regarding subsurface shaders and moiré patterns in skin. This question is about an apparent interaction between depth of field and patterns in skin.

DS 4.9.3.166, MacOS (10.12.4), 3Delight engine.

Models (human, G3). The skin is not the Iray material. No additional shaders are being used on the skin surfaces, just the generic out-of-the-box materials.

Lighting is generally distant light, with raytraced shadows, different intensities of lighting, different levels of softness on shadows.

What is happening:

When I set up a camera to use depth of field, sometimes the render produces odd ring-like or slice-like patterns in the models' skin. When I turn off depth of field, this effect vanishes.

The first image shows a model whose skin is behaving correctly. This image was rendered in 3DL using a camera with DoF on, and distant lights for the lighting sources: A rim light from above and behind, at 150% intensity, raytraced shadows at 10% softness; a key light (distant eye-level, right of camera) at 80% intensity, raytraced shadows at 30% softness; and a distant fill light (eye-level, left of camera), 40% intensity, raytraced shadows at 70% softness. Shadow intensity on all three lights is 100%. The camera's f/stop is around 15. The lights are generic 'white' sources (rgb 255, 255, 255).

The second image shows another render with the model moved and the pose changed. The camera's f/stop is around 30 here. Apart from that, nothing has changed at all.

Subsurface shading is on in both renders. Changing the SS group does not have any visible effect.

What in the world is causing that weird pattern? It looks almost as though the model's geometry is somehow leaking through the render engine, exposing a layer or slice in a strange way. This happens regardless of whose mats I've dropped on a model; it doesn't seem to be a material-dependent artifact so much as something which simply happens, sometimes, when DoF is active.

I've observed this patterning in torsos, arms, and legs. Nonhuman figures and any clothing surfaces don't manifest this effect, that I've noticed. Only skin.

Note that when DoF is turned off, these patterns vanish. There is a 100% correlation between DoF being on, and these patterns appearing — when they appear at all.

Turning off DoF to get clean renders isn't really a desirable option here; there's a reason I use DoF, and it should be obious to any artist why I like having it available.

I don't have a whizbang NVIDIA setup, so Iray isn't a particularly practical choice for me; it always ends up doing a CPU render. I haven't noticed this effect in the Iray renders I've done. Just 3DL.

Has anyone else seen this and found a fix for it?

Hi there,

I have a few projects in Unreal Engine that I want to export to Daz so I can take excellent iRay rendered pictures, but I'm having difficulties with the materials doing this.

First of all, if I choose to export everything as obj in UE, Daz will use everything as a single object instead of many and textures will get lost, so I can only reapply one for the whole (in this case) building, including doors, walls, glass and furniture.
If I choose to export everything as fbx, "everything" will be imported by Daz separately except walls, which will be a single wall, so I cannot apply two textures to two different sides of the wall, in addition to get everthing 90º rotated and have to relocate everything since after rotating to set it properly, door frames won't be in the same location of the wall, for instance.

Have any of you solved this by doing something I have not? Any ideas?

I'm having trouble figuring out how the translucency works.

Whenever I buy a new Genesis 3 figure, either here or at Renderosity, it comes with default Taanslucency parameters that make, on initial test renderings, the skin always be too red/orange, as if the character stayed too long taking a sunbath. It's never like the promotional pictures so I suppose some tweeking must be made

For isntance, for this particular character there is a Translucency map (somewhat desaturated) with a strong red colour (0.39/0/0) and Translucency Weigth 0.30.

Can someone enlight me on how to work with Translucency dials to have a somehow natural skin? I still want to keep the translucency feature, I understand it mimics interior body tissue light scatering which adds realism, but I can't understand why the default values produce such wrong effect.
