I am wanting to use Daz to create animations for chracters (morphs and skeletal) and export them to Unity, and generally get things exporting fine as an FBX, but am having issues with the character not playing the animation back correctly from Unity. It looks like some of the bones are wrong, typically the legs, and I have no idea how to get things working properly.

I can map a Unity animation properly to the character, but the exported animation that comes with the very same character doesn't play right.

I'd definitely appreciate help getting this last part sorted. Also if there is a good tutorial on how to handle morphed animations from Daz to Unity, I'd appreciate seeing that too.

Before I go any further, I need to make clear that this product is clearly marked as for Poser, only, and I bought it knowing that, and that I would have to add shaders myself.

When I select the "Truck" element in the scene, no problems, as I have the usual parameters available. However, when I select things like "Hull" or "Step" there are no dials.

I have been in touch with ByteFactory3D, who is one of the truck's creators, and he has not heard of this problem, though he has been helpful.

Can anyone provide any insight into causes/solutions, please?

Edited to add: I'm using the latest version of Studio Pro. Also, I loaded the truck in Carrara, where it seems to work fine, apart from the need for some texturing.

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue that I haven't seen before and I am wondering if what I'm experiencing is a bug with D-Formers. The issue has happened several times since I upgraded to 4.9.4.117, however I also started using Genesis 3 at the same time, so I'm not sure if it's related to that instead.

Whenever I create and set up a D-Former on clothing fitted to Genesis 3 that has a reverse deform morph loaded on it, the transforms of the D-Former field will change after I save / close / re-open the project. To be more precise, the values of the D-Former field's transforms don't change, but for whatever reason the field is not in the same place / scale.

Here's a screenshot I took during testing to show the position of the D-Former field: http://i.imgur.com/d8xiUcv.jpg

And here's a screenshot of the same D-Former field after saving/re-opening the project: http://i.imgur.com/Upv6SLN.jpg

It's getting old pretty fast, so I'm really hoping I'm wrong about it being a bug and there's something I'm missing here. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

The Cat & Bat HD ear morphs aren't showing up correctly in the 3DL render.

Tried various resolution settings, and they correctly affect the image in the viewport, but on render the ear morphs deform much smaller, and with no detail. The viewport image looks great, the render isn't even close to the same shape.

Anyone know what's causing this?

Latest 4.9 version

Update - tried rendering with Iray and the HD morph shows up correctly. No idea what's causing this, I'm submitting a support ticket.

Solved ?

I tried again, and this time noticed that the problems was that 3DL was SMOOTHING the Guardian HD ear morphs, even though Smoothing was NOT enabled.

Saw further that this error was affecting ALL HD morphs, not just RawArt's Guardian ears.

Nothing had any effect, not Hi Res, not subd levels. With Smoothing DISABLED, 3DL still smoothed every HD morph I tried, and Iray rendered the HD morphs correctly ! Tried a number of products with HD morphs. Same problem.

Out of desperation, I started fiddling with the Subd Algorithms, and when I changed that from Catmark to Bilinear, 3DL crashed with a Render Error msg. After switching back to Catmark, I tried another render, and got a msg that the renderer was already running, although there was no indication that that was so. No render pop-up, nothing.

I closed Studio, restarted it, and from that point 3DL rendered HD morphs correctly! For some unknown reason 3DL was stuck with smoothing ON, regardless of the UI setting.

No idea what was going on, no idea what fixed it, but the 3DL render engine appears to be fixed now.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Long-time infrequent user here, now working on a series of animations for Public Consumption on You Tube and the like.

When I started IN 2004-ish (D|S 2) I realised I'd need a better way to keep track of the thousands of assets I'd downloaded or bought so I separated each character into his or her own folder into which their clothes, props etc would (generally) also be placed. I also separated out props, interior and exterior locations, transport, hair, poses etc which could be used with any character. Recently I've made specific prop and environment folders for each video where tracking specific items down might become time-costly (a particular top hat, the best whip, preferred animals etc - it's a Circus video).

Also, because of fragmentation issues, I keep my C drive as small as possible and use a 1TB V drive for my video an 3D work.

So, so far so good. And reasonably functional, you'll be surprised to hear.

Over the course of years, and on many different replacement computers and motherboards, I've created what I consider a Casting Pool of characters, variations of the Daz originals that I like the look of and tend to re-use in scenes and storylines as appropriate. Last year I created a 3D Beatles band in D|S, for example - if I remember I'll link you to the You Tube upload. I tend to create characters in D|S 2.3 as I'm perfectly happy, and am almost exclusively accessorised, with everything up to M4 and V4.2. Also, animation in D|S 4 is a nightmare, while D|S 2 has the irreplacable Animator prog. I reserve D|S 4 for rendering on my super-fast supercomputer.

I'm now getting to the point, a big clue to which is in that last sentence:

I use three computers for any given task. The slowest is for synching sound and creating music. The next slowest is my workaday machine. It's runs Daz Studio very smoothly and, though even test rendering can take lengthy minutes, it loads and saves quickly enough, even when running multiple copies of Daz. It can't handle large content, of course, but that isn't its job. Both these machines are still XP because I'm not an idiot. Or rather, I'm not smart enough to completely migrate to Linux.

The fastest machine runs Windows 8 and has a graphics card that will handle everything I've thus far thrown at it. Rendering time is now days rather than weeks for a given scene.

To keep this mini-farm functioning, I have chosen to install D|S 2 and 4.9 on each machine. I use one location to store all of the work I create, divided into folders for each project, and have one DATA folder for all of the saved scene data which is duplicated in the same relative location on each machine. They are clones of each other in that each iteration of Daz utilises the same (relative to each machine) Content tree. There should be no difference in how each seeks the same data.

And yet there is.

I have wasted more time trying to find where Daz thinks a data file should be than is practical in a normal daily workflow. I have read log files that say it's looking in precisely the right place, assuming it has its starting point right. I find lines like, "Unable to find file for storable: SCENES/data/M3-FormalPack_Jacket_7370/hip/modifiers/morphs/rOpen_204.dsd" wholly perplexing as it seems to have everything right except it doesn't feel like divulging what drive it's looking on or what directory on that drive. I have to assume it's the V drive as, as I've said, that's the only one I use for this work, but where is it going from there? I have opened my SCENES/data" folder and I can find "M3-FormalPack_Jacket_7370/hip..." etc, so why can't Daz? It's right there in exactly the place it says it can't find it. And, yes, Daz/Content/Scenes is one of the Daz directories I have made available in the Content preferences.

Please, if anyone knows what's going on here and how to deal with it, I will be grateful. I'll make you the fifth Beatle.

Which reminds me:

Regards,

Stephen

Hi everybody,

I'm working mainly on cinema 4D but I need to animate a figure on a very simple movement. I've choose a genesis 3 figure for this sequence. The best way I've found is to make this animation in DAZ, beacause of the powerful tools animation in DAZ.

There is an add-on call "animation gen2 ti gen3" in the store. So let's check my work-flow :

I make an animation on a Gen2 figure

I use "animation gen2 to gen 3" to transfer the animation to my character

I export the animation in an FBX format

Is that correct ? Have you an idea fort a better and more simple workflow ?

(sorry for my poor english ! I'm note a native !)

Ok, so I'm trying to adjust the position of the Sapphire hair to match my pose (also still a WIP on texturing and all that so...) There seems to be a lack of controls for movement of the part above the chin. Is there another approach to adjusting the hair without going and seeing how bad I can screw things up in ZBrush or Blender?

So, I've been looking around everywhere online to figure out how to get lip syncing working with Unity's Salsa plugin. I found this tutorial on the official page with the following picture of how the settings should look.

This is how mine looks. None of those seem to be in the list.

And here are my DAZ FBX Export settings.

What am I doing wrong? I've originally saved the project as a scene file. Then I read somewhere to save it as a pose preset, which gives an error when trying to open. Then I tried merging the pose preset with the scene file, changing my export settings up the wazoo... Just, how do I get the correct Visemes so I can do lip syncing?

Can anyone help?

Edit: Wow, I'm dumb. Or the solution was dumb. Apparently it's "head" with a lower case h, not "Head." Sorry for the waste of bandwidth. XD

Edit 2: Well, I thought it was going to work, as the correct files have been exported, but every time I try to import the model into Unity, it hard freezes my computer. It just sits there, unresponsive with a solid hard drive activity light. I've seen other threads related to Daz lip syncing where their "recently fixed" models froze their Maya or 3DS Max. I guess I'm in the same boat. Can I get help again?

Edit 3: Well, I left the computer on overnight, and in the morning, it was unfrozen and successfully imported. I just hope I never have to do it again. Please close this topic. ^^;

I've been a V4/Poser Pro user since I got started in 3D around 5 years ago and am finally making the switch to DS and Genesis 3. Starting out as a complete novice, I learned as I went with my primary goal of creating a very specific custom character using V4 as a base model. My question is now that I'm moving into DS and G3 figures, which base model should I start with if I have very specific physical characteristics in mind? I want to rebuild my original character from scratch as a chance to improve on the original and avoid all the novice mistakes I made.

The character should be 5'7" or 170cm in height, about 120lb or 55 kg weight, with measurements around 37-25-36 in inches or 95-65-90 in cm. What do you all think? Is it worth it to start from just a base G3 female figure or start with V7 or some of the other DAZ or 3rd party characters? I'm inclined to just start with the basic G3 model, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Hey. I've been making characters with DAZ for awhile, but it seems like in order to get DAZ Studio 4.9 to even do the basic functions that we all take for granted (load, save, import, etc) on my secondary computer (HP Pavilion AMD64 laptop that I switched to 32 bits with Windows 10 and 7 installed), you have to fight it.

So far, I've experienced issues such as:

The program refusing to browse to any other folder for importing textures, models, etc.

The program refusing to save as a different file name

Materials on saved characters showing up as incorrectly-colored

The program looking like it's saving, when I press Save, but it doesn't actually save.

Sometimes when I get everything right, it crashes and shuts down.

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone else had these problems? I Googled and Googled, nothing came up.

Does anyone know why these problems exist?

Hello

This is my first forum post so bear with me!

I've been trying to get into Daz recently and wanted to use a set of lip morphs that I bought from a third party site. The instructions on the website told me that all I had to do was "Copy the provided files to your Library folder." This seemed straight forward enough, so I unzipped the morph package I had bought and placed them in This PC > Documents > Daz 3D > Studio > My Library. I then opened Daz and loaded up the base Genesis 3 figure (which the morph said it was made for). When I went to look for the morphs in the Shaping tab (where the creator said they would be) they were nowhere to be seen. I then went on a two hour crusade to try and make sure that they had been placed correctly in the library that was listed in the Content Directory page. None of my attempts worked. The closest I got was being able to find the morphs in the 'Content Library' tab, though nothing happens when I double-click or try to apply them onto the figure.

If anyone out there could lend me hand I'd really appreciate it. The morphs were only a couple of bucks but I want to buy more 3rd party products in the future so I'd rather not give up!

If it's any help the mods in question were lip mods and all "DSON Support Files."

Hi All,

Havent used DAZ Studio in a while, so maybe this has changed. It used to be that if you were rendering and your character was lit from the side and it was showing the wireframe shaping through the skin, as in, not completely smooth. This could be smoothed out by simply increasing the subdivisions in the render settings, from lIke 2 to 4, something like that. I can't find that setting now. Where has it moved to? Or has that element changed with G8/V8?

Thanks.
