I'm always trying to find the right balance between complexity and render speed when rendering scenes. I was wondering what are some things that slow down Iray renders? For instance, when rendering with 3delight I know that transmapped hair can turn a 2 minute render into a 30 minute render or subsurface shading calculations can bring things to a halt. Because of this, I know that if I want to render a sequence of images pretty quickly, these should be avoided. Are there similar examples for Iray?

Is there a way to record exactly what position I did the render from, go off and position the prop and then come back to the exact same position to re-render the scene from the same spot?

I have used the Gen3 characters for almost all of my work, but I want to start transitioning to Gen8 now that it has had some time on the market. However, I am finding it nearly unworkable, because it lacks a lot of the built-in morphs that Gen3 had (most specifically, those that applied to the hands, allowing for slide-based grip and fist adjustment). I have heard that it is possible to apply things from older characters to the new Gen8 characters, but I can't seem to find out anywhere how to ACTUALLY do this. Can someone more experienced offer any insight? Thanks a bunch!

When it can take hours to create morphs and textures, I don't understand how to save my progress and there is nothing in the tutorials that mentions how to save when it comes time to stop for the night.

I tried saving the Zbrush document, but all this did was save a document with my M4 figure a static thing on the screen that was no longer a mesh that I could edit.

At the moment, my project is creating textures for a M4 character, so unlike with a morph I can't just click the GoZ button and send my work back to Poser to be saved in my scene and then export it through GoZ again when I want to begin work again.

I have spent the last few hours searching for an answer to this and I haven't had any luck.

Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated.

Okay, I've created a scene using Room Creator 2, with some presets from RC-Labrynths (the walls), and some presets from RC-Industrial (floor and ceiling), and am running into an issue where apparently the doors and the floor-trim are causing alpha bleed-thru. I WAS having an issue where the parts of the door were disappearing, as seen in this render. After a bit of expirimenting I discovered it had to do with the fact I had a second door prop turned 100% alpha that was at the same location as the door you (mostly) see. This came about because RC-Labyrynth removes the door and just leaves the opening... by simply setting the whole door to 100% alpha, but I needed to place a door there, and I couldn't get it to UNhide the door again, so I rezzed another copy of the doorway-wall prop there, hid THAT wall but left the door from that visible. SImply going into the Scene tab and clicking the eyeball symbol to eye-close on the invisible door made it totally go away in the render, and the patchworky holes-in-the-door issue went away. It was tedious donkeywork finding all the 100% alpha but still "rezzed" bits of scenery and unrezzing them, but I found all the relevant ones and fixed them.

The problem I've run into now, though, is there is a horizontil strip of alpha along the bottom of the little section of wall at the end of the hall, and when I unhide the ceiling, there is a stripe of alpha along the top of the wall, too. Upon careful inspection, I have determined it is likely the baseboards and the bit of trim at the TOP of the section of wall there (that arrives as part of the ceiling), which the retexturer mechanism has set to 100% alpha so that you no longer even see the baseboards and trim, and there's no way to actually totally derez that part via the eye-symbol, since there isn't a seperate one provided for just that baseboard or that bit of trim. And the other bit of wall at the same spot is already totally derezzed via the eye-symbol, so that doesn't seem to be a factor.

Any idea how to fix this? This is with the set (presumably) using the 3Dlight shaders while I'm rendering in iRay mode. Would converting them all over to iRay via the Iray Uber Base shader possibly sort this?

Did anyone succseed exporting Genesis 8 Female with animation and animated morphs into Blender Cycles?

I did try it with Blender 2.78 without any luck, I tried the FBX I followed the video tutorial settings:

I manually installed the files and the Pix Darga has the same issue. Please fix this installer package and if Daz could please step up the QA on the final package files that'd be great. This sorta thing has happened to me now 4 times this year.

Hi all,

I am just realizing now that with all the characters I buy for the G3F figure, I am experiencing morph bloat with tons of morphs being loaded with G3F. Is there a way to only load certain characters to the G3F without having to uninstall characters with the DIM? My G3F model takes forever to load because of the shedload of characters I have installed.

For example, if I wanted to have a G3F character that has only the FW characters loaded on one and maybe all the EJ models on a different G3F. Would that involve renaming the base G3F figure into something like G3F1, GeF2 etc.?

What I like about V4 is the injection morph so the base model can be loaded quickly without loading a ton of morphs to characters I won't be using.

Anyway, just wondering if it is in the realm of possibility...

Thanks!

In the pics below, the circle is the shadow and the cross is where the spotlight is. The spotlight has a disc geometry 30X30.

I also noticed that if I put a spotlight behind some glass (transparency 100%) it shows in the render, even if Render Emiter is Off.

Is there a way to really make the spotlight invisible but still casting the light?

Hi - I am struggling with a very strange problem.

Since a few days my Genesis 3 females have a changed geometry in their body (the head/face is unchanged/o.k.) which could be described as "ti...& a... enhancement" - sorry, I meaned "enhancements" in the chest/breast/cleavage and the glutes area. If you look at the screenshots you see what I mean - here the modification looks rather subtile, but when it's rendered and on figures which have already own modifications in this areas it's really messing the body.

So of course that's some morph which is responsible for the change. So far, so good. I am not really a beginner with Daz3D and know the problem f.e. from the "warrier princess" morph for G2... So of course my first look was the "Currently used" tab, but there is nothing shown what could be responsible - of course I have activated "show hidden properties".

To make the case more complicated: I have a very, very, very large content library, which has historically grown over years, so I have it on three different SSD devices to have better access performance. (In spite of this fact loading a scene or new figure takes a huge amount of time, because I have so many figures/morphs, including the transferred morphs from GenX - and of course I have all the "duplicate formula found" and error messages in my log which you ever could hope for - it's impossible to post it here...). I have a "My Library", a "My Library 2" and a "My Library 3" database on different SSDs, and fortunately/of course I have a backup on a harddisk.

It's obvious - there is some morph that's responsible for the distortion - and that must be a morph in a product I have recently installed. Unfortunately since the last backup I had installed a lot of products - from Daz3D, but also from other sources - it would be a horrible work to restore the backup and then install each product step for step again and to check everytime whether G3 loads correctly.

I found that the problem must be in "My Library 3" - if I load the backup version in the Content Directory Manager; instead of the actual/current version, the G3 female loads without distortion. Of course I thought it would be easy to identify the responsible morph now. I deleted/moved all files in the My Library 3\data\daz 3D\genesis 3\female\morphs\ folder which had been changed/newly installed since my last rendered picture without the distortion - but no success. I compared the logs loading the undistorted G3 via the distorted one - no difference!! The only interesting difference: In the cache folder there is a "female.cache.dsf" - with the backup library it has a size of 376.083 KB, with the current and spoiled library it has a size of 381.093 KB. So I guess the difference is the "evil" morph - I tried to compare the two files with "Winmerge" - but it told me "Not enough memory". I have 32 GB installed... WTF? So for now I am rather p.o.; pointless - is there no way to identify the "evil" morph ? Are there any other folders where morphs could have an interference with the G3 default figure? Is it possible that another newly installed product in my other libraries could cause the effect by an interference with "My Library 3"?

Thank you in advance for good ideas...

Hi,
I have been importing animations into DAZ and then rendering them in iRay for a while now, since DAZ is not really suited for creating complex animations.

My workflow is to create the animation in a third party application, and then import it as an FBX into DAZ. I then save it as a pose preset, instead of dealing with any BVH export/import issues.
Applying that preset then to any G3 character is working very well.

However, I've now run into a scaling issue when applying a pose preset.
2 characters in the scene, one is a bit taller than the other. When I apply the pose presets to the characters, the shorter characters animation is scaled, compared to the full size character.
I have fuzzed with this for a while now and haven't been able to fix this problem. The animation was created with the correct hight of the figures. One is 100% in size, the other is 84% in size.

When I import the FBX into DAZ, the bones of the 2 figures animate correctly. The little clip shows how the bounding boxes of the skeletons move in unison after import into DAZ.
The 2nd half of the clip shows the pose presets applied to G3M (to keep it simple). The taller figure now outruns the shorter one.

Does anyone here know how to fix this? I've even tried BVH export and re-import in DAZ, but the animation scaling remains. Disabling the "Scale Translation" settings in BVH didn't fix the problem either.
If I scale up the shorter figure to 100%, the both animations are matched again.

Any ideas, please?

Thanks,
Kay
