Hello! I've been a newbie with Daz3d for a couple years. I unfortunately haven't had a lot of time to work with it even though I've had the program a few years, including PC+ subscriptions on occasion. Between work, family and getting a degree, I haven't been able to put in the time to understand the ins and outs. In that time, I also was unfortunate enough to have a crashed desktop computer and three damaged laptops. Apparently I should stay off computers. lol

In any event, I managed to save much of my third party content, but it was mixed in with DIM and Daz content, and somehow got mixed up in file structure. In an attempt to fix the issue, and to put content in a place that is much easier to locate and not buried in five different locations throughout the hard drive, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, changed directory locations, and various other content management fixes. I have cruised through the forums and cannot quite suss out a fix.

At this point, I want to strip the entire program from my computer to do a fresh install as if it has never been on the machine in the first place. I want to start from scratch. When I uninstall and reinstall, the same database issues still exist, and content that should be viewable is no where to be found. Any suggestions on how to strip it and start over?

Hi,

I have noticed a strange effect a couple of times now when rendering a plane as a mirror (using nickel shader). Any objects that I have touching the mirror plane are set back in the actual mirror. I have attached a capture to show what I mean. In the screenshot the figure is actually touching the plane, so I would expect the mirror image to be touching the hand, but it's not, it's set back a bit. I also noticed this with shoes on a mirror, the reflection only appears to be touching if I set the object into the plane a bit. It's like a mirror, with REALLY thick glass. I'm not sure what to do to solve this.

Kind regards

Dear Daz folk,

I really only use Daz to export things for use in iClone -- but I've bought a TON of stuff for this purpose. What happens is that after I export (either OBJ or, if it's a figure-rigged prop, as FBX) I get the diffuse maps just fine, but no normal or specular maps or opacity -- basically just the diffuse, even though those other maps ARE provided (if I go into the Textures directory for that prop or environment I can see all the maps).

What I then end up doing is loading each and everyone in manually, which is a huge PITA. So I thought that perhaps my software just isn't importing properly. But when I go into Daz I only see the diffuse map loaded for each prop. It has sliders for the normal and opacity and specular and metallic maps, but no maps themselves. So now I'm thinking that perhaps those maps aren't being exported because Daz isn't loading them in in the first place.

So I thought I'd ask you good people here -- am I just plain ignorant (well, I am, but that's kind of besides the point) or is there something special I need to do to make sure ALL the maps get loaded. I'm just, for the most part, using the default "Load All" DUF that most developers provide for each environment or prop, and I just assumed it was loading all in. Or is it really all loaded in and not exporting properly? Or something else I just don't understand?

TIA for any assistance.

Hey all,

So I basically understood lighting, and then... Iray came along... and now I'm finally using Daz... and *&(*)&#%&(^(*^???? Pretty much. ;) I do well with tutorial learning, but there are so many tuts out there and there's no way to evaluate them without going through them. Until I figure out that Time-Turner thing, there are only so many hours in a day, plus work, going back to school, etc etc etc! So here's the question: where are the best and most complete Iray tuts? Which ones are the best use of time? Which ones are most complete? Which ones cover different lighting situations including interior, outdoor, day, night, etc? These can be either free or paid.I try to support fellow artists whenever possible.

If it helps, I have a photography background (which SEEMS like it should be more help than it's been so far) and a good real-world understanding of natural light. Our famly business is in landscaping and design, which means that I know about the way that flowers and plants will appear at different times of day/night, different cloud cover conditions, different parts of the country, different seasons, rain/snow/fog/smoke, and so on. So it's a question of how to translate reality into the digital world. I really want to recreate rain gardens and moonlight gardens. :) But basically, I need to learn ALL about the Iray lighting system, and some tuts are MUCH better than others for this purpose. Thanks in advance for ideas from all the smart people here!!

So I've put together a new rig this year that is vastly superior to my old one. And as a prerequisite to all this, I just want to state that I never had iRay issues with my PC crashing on my older rig, and that thing only had 16GB of RAM and (I think) a single GTX 760. My new PC has 32GB Ram and dual GTX 1080s with 8GB VRAM each. Here are all the specs for it: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hcKLBP

My old PC was really slow on iRay rendering but it never crashed on me. Now my new rig usually crashes at least one per scene. Sometimes mid-scene creation, sometimes after initializing the render. A variety of weird BSODs have popped up but by far the most common one has always been Memory_Management and to be honest, I have no idea why. Keep in mind I'm not bloating my scenes with 4K textures and a bazillion polygons; I actually use the Scene Optimizer these days because my rig crashes even while rendering older scenes that worked perfectly fine on my previous, inferior computer.

I was hoping other people may have had this issue and found ways to alleviate it.

Some other things worth noting is that SLI is disabled on the two devices, Optix Acceleration is selected as well both of my GPUs. CPU is unchecked because, with it selected, my CPU usage usually skyrockets which typically results in a crash too. I'd like to reiterate that these scene files aren't graphically intensive, sometimes they're as simple as a single human figure (subD set to 1) and a HDRi Environment Map in effect, no physical lights. I have Windows 10. Daz is fully updated. Drivers are all updated. And of course I'd be happy to provide more data and screenshots if necessary.

Here's to hoping someone can relate to this issue and has found ways around it. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

It would be great if someone would tell what and when should i do according to the SickleYield's video.

Is it possible to have a prop item attached to two different content products? Will the metadata work for only one or can it work for both?

Hi, guys.

Been using GoZ to fix clipping on clothes and fit them better for quite some time. But recently I've encountered some clothing products that wouldn't receive the custom morphs from ZBrush.

I understand I cannot edit objects in High Res, so I always switch the Resolution Level to Base before sending the clothes to ZBrush.
But recently I encountered some products that wouldn't receive the morphs, even when exported at Base resolution level.
Watch My Charm for Genesis 3 Female(s) is one of those products. The cloth items are set to Base level by default, but when exporting from ZBrush all I get is the option to create a new object.

Any idea what's causing this issue and how to get around it?
Thanks.

Trying to move the content directory has just resulted in too much of a headache. Since attempting to point DIM and Daz to the new path nothing downloaded after has shown up in either the content Library or the Smart Content.

While I'm loathe to do so, it's looking more and more like a complete reinstall, and pointing Daz to the new HD at the start is going to be the quickest way to go. Either way my 1 TB C drive only has 7 GB left, the computer is laggy and something has to be done.

However before I do that, will an uninstall delete my saved scenes and characters, and is there anyway to save those someplace safe if it would?

So I'm sorta new here, tho I've noticed something, that doesn't quite seem right.

I have two GTX 1080SC, not in SLI. They are both ticked off, and the CPU is not.

I will have a simple 2 second animation, at 15fps, and be rendering at 2560x1440, very basic lighting, two figures, a floor and that is it. All fairly basic stuff, no super high resolution textures.

Will start the render as an Image series. The First frame loads like there is no tomorrow, 500 iteration in about 1-2mins. The second frame will then start, and it will do about 200 iterations, take 25mins. This will continue at the latter speed for the rest of the frames.

On top of this, when I check my GPUs they are barely being used during the later frames, like 236mhz tops... but my CPU is at 100%.

During the first frame, my GPUs are both at 1900mhz+ each, and my cpu is about 15% usage...

What is going on here? Between the two frames, there is very very little happening, just a slight rotation of an arm.

Can anyone help me?

This is what the History says for the two frames.
