I am sorry for asking as i am sure it's come up a million times.

I've gone through many youtube videos and topic on render speeds.

I did some test last sunday, the whole day and see where/how i can speed up my renders but still get HD quality. Anything between 1920x1080/4000x2950 for instance. I had a coffee mug on a table and viewed close and far with different resolutions settings and Render Quality settings from 2.5 to 3.0. The Render times varied but were pretty low. From 2min to 55s etc..

Then i had a model sit on a chair and repeated same thing. This type render's longest time took 15min and the quality was high and what i wanted.

What else can one do to speed things up. I have several scenarios inside a kithcen/bathroom/living room with good to adeqaute lighting but these all take over 4hrs and more.

Would it help playing with optimising or shadows etc...?

What have you guys found that speed up render times but gave you very good quality. I am mainly looking for a view of a room type of rendering, not close ups as these i have managed to render pretty quickly.

Its not an excessive amount but its definately something you cant pass off as light reflection or dust. So if anyone has any tips on how i can get rid of them, im all ears. Ive tried tinkering with lighting, enviroment settings, made sure all materials were iray, but i just cant seem to fix it.

Daz's log doesn't give me anything useful.

Computer is (at the moment) not overclocked, as I thought that could have been an issue, and running fully updated drivers on Win10 with 16Gb Ram.

Rendering on the graphics-card (Gainward Nvidia 1070) does not crash the computer rendering the same scene.

Any tips to what this could be, or is it simply that the Ryzen is "too new" so that Daz Studio isn't properly compatible yet?

Hi. I've been seeing really slow render times on even small 800x1200 renders. I'm not sure what's changed. I have updated to the latest beta version of Daz Studio that DIM offers, but this has been happening for a while and hasn't changed over the course of the last... five or six updates at least. I used to be able to render simple pose promos in a matter 5-10 minutes. Now they're taking an hour each and it's slowing my workflow to a painful crawl. I need to track down what's going on or what's changed. Or what I'm suddenly doing wrong. I looked at my log file (which I can't understand most of the time) and I notice that there's a warning and an error that come up frequently. I don't know if it's something that's slowing my renders down, but could someone tell me what it means? Here they are:

However, when I click from TR to TRSV in keymate, half my objects disappear from the keymate list (including all my cameras and lights). If I try to click back to TR, nothing happens; the objects are still missing.

After setting the eyes, if I save a scene then re-open it, the eyes are visibly not pointing at target any more, although the 'Point At' is still properly set.
I already tried to lock the 'Point At' property once set, but the problem persists.

Interestingly, if I just move the head (or the target) just a bit, the eyes aim back to their intended target.

This is a big problem when using batch rendering.

Sadly, I still find out that for unexplained reasons, using the displacement brush on an imported OBJ or "send to hexagon"-bridged G3 or G8 causes an application freeze.

i used to have this issue for years but assumed this is just Hexagon being old and unsupported. When I read that Daz had worked on it to stabilize it and probably fix some 64-bit addressing stuff, this bug would go away.

Alas, no such luck.

I've dabbled in Octane and really love their object system of modes.

When I fiddle in Iray shaders, I'm a bit stuck, though. Here is what I'm trying to do:

I'll hand paint the makeup in a dedicated layer in photoshop, then export a 16-bit (256 levels of transparency) PNG file as a tint mask for various kinds of makeup, so I can easily use it on various character textures. I'm not exporting the base diffuse texture, just the makeup, or maybe a few custom liver spots or freckles... that type of thing.

surely, there ought to be a way to load this as a separate diffuse of some kind, hopefully with some operators like transparency level or tint color, right?

in Octane, you can just hook a diffuse mix into the base and get creative. Iray inside DAZ is more limited, I know, but there surely is a way without resorting to LIE, yes?

Thanks.

I've created a D-Former on Genesis 2 Female which seemingly worked fine.

First I dialed in a morph on the head.

Then I created a new D-Former on Genesis 2 Female.

I've scaled the field so that it occupies the head, and I dragged the base into the head.

I've tested the D-Former by selecting Genesis 2 Female->D-Former_1_Base->D-Former-1, then going to Parameters->Transforms->Scale and dialing it up. The head became bigger, so it worked fine.

Now I want to spawn the D-Former.

Therefore I go to Windows->Tabs->D-Former.

I click "Genesis 2 Female" in the scene view.

I check the options "Create Root Control Parameter", "Delete Applied D-Former(s)" and "Apply Spawned Morph".

Then I click "Spawn Morph...".

DAZ tells me "The D-Former "D-Former_1" still affects some nodes. Do you want to delete it anyway?".

I select "Yes".

The D-Former is now gone, and I try to locate in in the Parameters tab. But it's nowhere to be found.

The pants work fine and I put them through a barrage of pose tests. They are not finished but seem to working well with respect to posing. However, the top has under breast mesh aberrations when I bend the lower chest forward or side to side. I used the weight mapping smoothing brush to smooth the weight mapping transitions and this helped a lot, but it still looks a little odd when bending G8F's lower chest.

I created a simplifed to test top garment to remove random folds from draping and simply the mesh so the problem is obvious. (There are no hemmed edges as it is just a test. top) See attached.

I know vendors must deal with the all the time. Can someone who shed some light on the process to deal with this? I have seen products in the store that were created in Marvelous Designer, so I know it can work.

1. Is there something I need to do to the mesh prior to rigging?

2. Does it have to do with Thin or Thick option in the Marvelous Designer Export options?

3. Do I have to retopo in external product like Blender or ZBrush? (I am already using quads)

4. Is there a better rigging template than the default Transfer Utility Template? (I will buy a merhcant resource if it is avaiable, including a thrid part rigging transfer tool if there is one that works better).

5. Would creating a JCM tied to the G8F lower chest help, or would the problem still occur in the JCM morph mesh?

Sorry for all the questions. I have spent hours reading and testing and not getting the results I am after. I need some help from people who do this routinely.

thanks

Quick question: Using an M2 drive to run Daz in?

Hi folks, new user here, cooking my first (and really first serious) render in years. I've been wanting to get into this for a loooooong time now, but in the older days, never really stuck it out to learn things. The learning curve in programs such as this and Poser can be pretty daunting.

So, now, I've actually gotten into trying this out pretty deep... Watching lots of tutorials, getting my library (kinda?) sorted, and trying to mess with iRay, lighting and composition.

Now that I am in process of rendering my image, I wonder... Would this program benefit from being installed on an M2 drive? Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXS4TYB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now, I don't pretend to know much about this, I can only fathom so far that they write incredibly fast (supposedly). Have any of you tried this? Does Daz Studio benefit from the speeds of these drives?

Naturally, I'd still try and have my content library on a seperate drive. I just don't know how this would affect the speed of the program in general if mounted on a drive like this.

Any of you tech types have any experience or input into this? Or is speed of rendering primarily a function of GPU (and cpu) and drive type really isn't an issue?

Have fun rendering!

I know that it is usually best to have a key/fill light and some rim lights. My question is, do the rim lights need to have shadows on? I am talking in 3dl here. I know that in real life every light casts a shadow, but it irks me when, say, in an outdoor scene, you see competing shadows on the ground. I suppose it is just preference, but I thought I would ask.

I really like the lights and the way the background works, I just need to get rid of it for now.

Hi. I have a problem fitting clothes to Genesis 3. I make clothes with Marvelous Designer and modify them with Blender. Then I import them in Daz Studio and fit to Genesis 3, which is the model I used in Marvelous. The shirts and top of dresses, etc, look fine with that, but when I morph Genesis 3 (Victoria 7, e.g.) appears that glitches underbreast. I tried to fix it with weight map, but don't fix anything. I tried modify the cloth, making it more large in the underbreast zone, but neither fix it.

Maybe the solution is very simple, but I don't know Daz Studio very well and I've been working with it a little time. I will appreciate any help.

Sorry if this is a redundant question. I think I've seen entries on the topic, but I can't find them, now.

I'm one-month-new to DAZ Studio, using 4.5, and I don't know what I did / may have done / didn't do to cause this situation, but it didn't always used to happen.

When I apply morphs to a figure, or change the pose, the figure distorts radically during the process, and reverts to normal, morphs and pose changes included, after I release the slider.

Aside from making measured adjustments problematic, because I can't see how much change is applied until after the fact, it makes animation unusable, in that the distorted transitions are animated as well.

As an example, if I reposition a shin in any direction, the shin shrinks up like a stick while I'm moving it, then reverts immediately to its normal shape as soon as I'm done moving it. Very weird, very annoying.

Has any of the community seen / dealt with this?
