Situation:

I downloaded one model wherein one parent has lots of children, but all the children are only one level deep. I want to parent some of the children to other children, to make two levels deep, or even more levels deep.

When I select and right-click the child I want to parent to another child, the menu pops us showing the name for the parent, not the child. And indeed, the parent is what actually got selected. See the attached screen shot. I selected “rMDoor1”, wanting to parent it to “rMDoor1Riser” just above it on the list. But right clicking "rMDoor1" produces the menu options for the parent, “SeaStrike”. It’s not just a mislabeling in the menu, as proceeding as if it was a mislabeling does not produce the desired parenting.

Did some property of the model get set to prevent parenting the children to other children? And if so, can I overturn this setting?

Is this possible, or what would be an alternative solution?

I had to remove all the files through the registry and download secondary uninstallers to achieve this.

But I still can't install DAZ or DIM. When I click the I file DAZStudio_4.10.0.123_Win64 (or 32bit, I tried both) It asks if I would like to let this program make changes to my blah blah blah and I click ok.

I have looked at two or three different tutorials related to the new dForce feature, and they all say something like "go to the Simulations Settings tab and select blah-blah...." Trouble is, I have no earthly idea where "the Simulation Settings" tab is. I am assuming its one of the tabs like Actors, Wardobe & Props and the like up along the top of one of my main panes, or that its some other obvious, right-there-in-plane-site dingdoodle tat's walys, always, always right out where I can see it and click it. Bear in mind that I switched to some other "skin" in DS 4 ages ago because some teach-yourself-DS dead-tree-edition book I started working my way through a year ago (then plopped aside and forgot about after the first couple chapers) recommended that skin because it had a lot less clutter and because the author was using it in the book, so I figured it best to use whatever the book was using. Is it possible teis skin deleted all options of having "a Simulations Tab" in it? oO

Attached is an image of what my Daz Studio Pro window looks like, with that skin applied. I've actually long since forgotten how one changes that stuff, because I changed it early on, somehat liked the less cluttered appearance, and never looked back. If the Simulations Tab is something I can manually add, how do I do that?

Render Times and Texture Memory Consumption

Good Afternoon,

My question concerns reducing the amount of memory consumption allocated to Textures while rendering.

I completed my first IRay animation render with 2 characters moving. The 5.5 second .avi took almost four hours to render.

I am running Win10 on a machine I build myself [Ryzen 7, single GTX 1080].

For Render Settings, my environment is set to Infinite Sphere. All other environment settings are default. I did enable Spectral Rendering and selected Natural. General settings Full HD. Optimization Settings have Quality turned off and Max Samples at 144. Max seconds at 600. I am rendering with Nvidia Iray selected and under advanced I have GPU selected in both panes. Optix is not enabled. priority is Speed. In the viewport I do have Iray selected. I have one distant light, no background, HDRI or other lighting.

I rendered a still image with a single V7 character and found that Textures were consuming 1.6 Gb. I added another character and the Textures increased to 1.8 Gb. I loaded my full scene, 1 building, 2 sidewalks, 2 vehicles, 2 characters. Texture Memory consumption jumped to 4.67 Gb. (I have 8Gb on my graphics). All other memory consumption adds up to Mbs. [Attached is an image of my scene.]

My question is will shrinking textures either manually or with a product like Scene Optimizer significantly (as in by half or even one third) reduce the amount of Texture Memory consumption during rendering? If so, will this speed up my renders?

Any advice or observations are appreciated.

Is anyone else having this problem - I don't know what started it but it happend right after I installed dForce clothing presets item. An old or new Genesis 3 female is brought into a new blank scene. I add pants and shirt or dress (from the Gen 7 wardrobe) I click on the eye to hide each item, then the skin dissapears. I've tried this with other Gen 7 models (the main one I am using is Willow) but the same results, even V7. I've never seen this before, very odd. I rebooted twice, restarted Daz several times, flushed memory.

I added dForce modifier then tried using a clothing preset and the clothing just flaps down as if there simply is no bones or skin modeling there. LIke a sweater that just collapses. I also tried fresh with new figs, etc, and no dForce preset but now everything Gen 7 is dissapearing under the clothing. When I delete the clothing, most of the skin returns!

This doesn't happen with G2, havent tried with G8, just G7 so far. If anyone knows a solution to get the skin back, please let me know. I can't do any animations when the clothing just falls down as if there is no longer skin beneath.

Thanks.

Genesis 8 adjust clothing fit?

So I'm pretty new to this. I've got quite a bit down so far but one issue I am having is making clothes fit realistically. Basically, I want to know if there are things like this:

https://www.daz3d.com/sy-universal-breast-helpers-genesis-genesis-2-and-genesis-3-female-s

-Which work for Genesis 8? I have problems with clothes sort of suctioning around curves which it shouldn't, like that item is made to solve. I don't care if the answer is "easy" or whatever. If there is a way to manually grab a certain spot and adjust it myself, I'll gladly do that. The clothes in question so far have built in adjustment sliders which are good for clipping and stuff, but not quite what I need.

Here is a simple example from something I was doing. Evil vampire girl gonna rob somebody, whatever. But I noticed if I look from an angle where the cleavage is visible, the top edge of the shirt actually goes upward towards the center. I enlarged the breasts a bit to make it more obvious. In real life it would either be perfectly straight across due to elasticity, or hang downward due to gravity. There's nothing that would cause that point of the top to point upward like that, and that is what I want to fix. On a slightly related note, it slightly bothers me how her ears come out of her hair in the way they do, like they just phase through it. The hair has no built in stuff to adjust anything, but is there any possible way to create a part in the hair for the ears to poke out of properly? Again even if it's tedius, I'll do it.

How to mirror a pose from one part of body to opposite side but keep original side as is? (SOLVED)

If I have the right collar, right shoulder, right forearm and right hand posed, and I want those poses to be mirrored to the left collar, left shoulder left forearm, left hand but I don't want the right side to change at all, is there any way to do this within Daz with existing tools?

I have pose builder and some of mcasuals scripts, but unless I'm missing something, I can't find any way to do this with any of the scripts I currently have. Although I may have missed it. All the mirror options seem to change the whole body, that is, it will flip the right and left sides, rather than making the poses the same on both sides.

If I can figure this out I will save so much time.

EDIT: nevermind, I figured it out. You just select the nodes that you want to mirror, then go to Edit > Figure > Symmetry... take the defaults, click accept, and it mirrors the selected nodes to the opposite side. I can't believe that option was there all the time.

I've been using Bryce since Kai made the first boxed app in the late 90's?. I still have the original book and discs. I've had and used Bryce for book and magazine covers, visual illustrations and even animations and design work. I've had MAYA and 3DSMAX but this is more intuitive. I would like to see Bryce move into more hi-end features and apply to VR and other up and coming 3D uses.\

My question is if Daz development has any plans or is the code too old? We are talking almost 20 years.

I'm seeing a lot of discussion about using two cards, but they all seem to get into comparing a single Higher End card to two Lower End Cards. I know you need to install them without SLI and some of the other info on setting them up.

The one thing that I am not seeing, which is what I want to know is:

If I have a GEFORCE GTX 1070 Ti already, will adding a second TI 1700 roughly halve the Rendering time?

I mostly work with Genesis 3 right now, and I have the "Wear Them All" addon for Genesis 3 Female. While it's been rather handy in a number of cases, I've noticed that it doesn't work well with Genesis 1 shoes; there's quite a bit of distortion in the soles and the general shape of the shoe. It fares a bit better with Genesis 2 Female shoes, but there's still a bit of much-less noticeable distortion.

The reason I'm asking is that I noticed that there are a number of very nice footwear options for Victoria 4, and "Wear Them All" does have fitting for V4 > G3F. But my issue is that if they don't look well, then I won't bother with buying any of them and wasting my money on something that won't work well with it.

E.g., is there a way to apply a morph just to the left or right side of the head or the body, or apply it in slightly different amounts to the two sides?

Thanks!

I am rendering an Animation and there are some pixels that are not getting rendered for some reason. I'm attaching an image containing two sequencial frames. You will see a few white pixels in each image. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Update - The pixels appear to be transparent since they show up black in some apps and white in others. I tried some things that I found refarding Fireflys. I reduced the lighting from my light source. I made sure that the Firefly setting was ON in Rendering. I checked the Reflectivity settings for her skin and they are all under the 70% threshold.

It also appears that if I Render the image as a Single Image, it seems to look fine. I would need to do some more thorough testing to verify this.

So I'm having a rather glaring problem with the Gen 8 Base Male specifically.

Whenever I try to use an older clothing option (such as in this picture "The Classic Outfit" for the Gen 3 Male), when the autofit box appears...there's no option to select Gen 3 Male or any Male model, only to leave it "unsupported" like this.

which in turn, if I just go ahead with the autofit without selecting anything, leads to this outcome:

I DO NOT have this problem with the Gen 8 Female model. Whenever I fit older items onto it, the autofit lets me select every Daz model up to this current mode and all of the different fitting options, so I am at a loss as to why I have no choices for fitting with the Gen 8 Male. My Daz is currently up to date according to the Install Manager, so I have no idea what the problem is.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's been awhile since I used DAZ Studio. Maybe even a year. In the meantime, the interface has changed. I'm currently using DAZ Studio 4.10 Pro. In an earlier version of DAZ Studio, there were options to modify hair, bodies and other things. For hair, the options used to be in the parameters. You could change things like the length, the direction the hair was flowing (wind), etc. For the head, you could also make adjustments under parameter. For example, you could tweak expressions. Then for the body, I believe it was under shape, you could combine figures. For example, I could dial a bit of the Girl head onto a Victoria body.

Now I look for the dials under parameter or shape and the features are missing. Where can I find them?

By the way, I loaded Gen 2 and Gen 3 characters. Both seem to be missing the parameter or shape features I'm talking about.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!
