SOLUTION:

It was a prop I was using, and MUCH more embarassingly one of my OWN creations.

As a disclaimer, if anybody here has purchased by "Stickier Mess" prop pack, please refrain from using the "Chocolate Dollops" prop! I'm not entirely certain what about this prop is causing the issue, but my best guess is that the geometry somehow clashes with Iray shaders that utilize refraction. I'm SO sorry for any trouble one of my products may have caused anyone, and I'll be trying to see what I can do to fix this issue.

Problem:

I just installed two brand new GTX 1070's in my rig (specs listed below). Upon rendering a scene in Iray all scene assets are processed properly, but just as Daz begins to render my screen will flash black, then I get an alert that my display adapter stopped working and recovered. Daz then forces CPU rendering, and cancelling the render always causes Daz to crash.

Specs:

Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), fully updated

2x GTX 1070's running latest Nvidia driver (391.35)

Latest Daz Studio application (4.10)

Error:

nvoglv64.DLL module crashes with exception code 0x40000015 in the Daz Studio application.

Steps Taken:

1) Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Daz Studio 4.10, using link provided from Daz's website.

2) Completely uninstalled and reinstalled latest Nvidia drivers using the Display Driver Uninstaller tool.

3) Registry and system cache files cleaned using CCleaner.

4) Windows completely updated using Windows Update.

5) Sacrificed goat.

So far nothing has worked, and I'm super stressed out over it. Hopefully somebody here can help me figure out what's going on with my stupid computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My finger is poised and ready to hit the big red button that wipes my machine and gets it ready for a fresh Windows installation.

Thanks!

BTW - Windows 10 Pro 64bit repairs itself somewhat. I've decided to just start all over - and I've got a LOT of stuff to reinstall. I've been working on it for days and I hope I am able to get all the serial numbers, logins, deactivations and whatever I need to make life a little easier. I bought Windows 10 Pro 64 bit for this new machine (don't ask). Outlook! My gawd I have to get all of Spectrum's info to redo that even! This time I am not loading a bunch of old Daz stuff I no longer use AND putting the rest on its own SSD drive. Wish me luck!

Hi all,

I've found a bug in rendering body ornaments that are parented to a Rigid Follow Node. I can't post images (nudity) but here's a link removed :

Screenshot 1 shows the nipple bands parented to Rigid Follow Nodes. In Render 1, you can see that the bands have rotated significantly.

Screenshot 2 shows the nipple bands parented to the character, not to the Rigid Follow Nodes. In Render 2, you can see that the bands remain in place.

It doesn't seem to matter which polys comprise the RFNs. When this first occurred, I had created the RFNs by selecting the (G8F-based) character, switching to Geometry Editor, selecting the four polys at the tip of the nipple, growing the selection once, then right-clicking and selecting Create Rigid Follow Node from Selection. I stumbled onto the idea of unparenting the bands from the RFNs and deleted the RFNs, and the render came out fine. Then I decided to reproduce the bug, and this time I created the RFNs by selecting only the top, bottom, left, and right polys in the ring outside the tips of the nipples. The result was the same as with the original RFNs.

The bug happens in the render process. I tried switching to Iray Preview Mode to see if that was the issue, and the bands remained in place for the preview. But when I rendered, they moved as shown in Render 1. The bands will not reliably follow the nipples if parented to the pectoral bones, so I need them parented to the RFNs for posing.

Workaround: Parent the object(s) to the RFN(s) for posing, but change the parent to the figure for rendering.

Has anyone else found this problem with other objects parented to RFNs, e.g.: buttons or buckles parented to RFNs on clothing?

Crissie

Hello everyone,

First thing, I have no idea if this plan is a bad idea since I'm not an advanced user. I would like to know if it's possible to build a computer with many external GTX 1050ti. I need a lot of CUDAs to render with Nvidia Iray (and I hope it will help to render with other programs as well). My idea is having a GTX 1080 as a main GPU, and then using as much as possible 1050ti cards, just to maximize the CUDA numbers (with the idea to lower the rendering time).

I guess 2x1080ti will be much better for this task, but I can't afford that. Maybe in the future I could afford a GTX 1080 and another internal 1060 and then some external 1050ti, but I'm not sure if there will be any limitation.

So, if this plan is not a bad idea, will this be enough to connect multiple external 1050ti to my computer?

(please note that this link is only for asking for help, this product may be a bad or a good one, I have no clue):

I am looking for a good way to modify the textures of store-bought models. Here is my experience so far:

1. Photoshop: Well, obviously I can take the existing textures, load them into photoshop and make some changes. But it is mostly guesswork, because it is hard to see where each pixel of the texture goes.

2. ZBrush Projection Painting. I can paint directly on the 3d-Model which is very cool. But the only tool is a basic brush with color and alpha. It seems I can't even paint with a texture. No layers, no adjustments. But at least I can use it to paint some markers on the texture that make it easier to finish the job in Photoshop.

3. ZBrush Polypainting. This is much more powerful than projection painting, as it can use textures, scaling, rotating, hue shifts and more. Still no layers and no adjustments. And it requires a complicated series of steps - subdividing, converting texture to polypaint, doing the actual painting, then projecting the result back on the original texture. The conversion steps reduce the quality and the projection sometimes fails. So, not sure if its worth it.

4. Mari. I have seen some videos on it, it seems to combine the power of photoshop with the ease of directly painting on objects. But I can't get the transfer from DAZ to Mari to work. Should I use fbx or obj? I have made some tries, but I can only get the model into Mari, not the UVs and not the textures. Anybody here managed to do this?

Also I would be interested how other people go about this task. Maybe there is a better way to do it in ZBrush than I have discovered so far?

I am really trying to stop should-ing on myself. Anyway. RobotHead wrote "In DIM click the gear icon in the upper right corner and select Installation to see the settings for the paths used by DIM. For the content folder locations used inside DAZ Studio, in DS go to Edit --> Preferences --> Content --> click on Content Directory Manager button."

What I need to know is: Can I use the above info to move all my Daz files, which are mostly in my USER folder, to another drive? If so, hopefully I will be able to do it. Without messing with my system that is. (I have an internal 256 gig SSD to move stuff to.)

Locking a body part in place?

So I'm playing with animation, and trying to get a feel for what is possible. I'm reviewing a lot of animations that folks are posting and trying to figure out quick ways of doing things. (possably even for sale.)

The biggest issue I am having, and I see it in a LOT of the animations, is what I have come to call the "Ice Skater Syndrome". Essentially limb extremities, I.E. Feet and hands, are set by the hip and shoulder settings. While yes this is why we reach or step up or crouch, feet do not move in the X, Y or Z axis when a bodies weight is placed on it. Hands do not drift forward when leaning back against something or holding it to climb (as in a ladder.)

Basic example of what I am talking about. (March in place)

1. Stand up and put your weight on your left leg. (Pose your favorite character to do the same.)

2. Lift your right leg to your left knee height. (Pose has been destroyed and will need to be rebuilt, to compensate for the hip movement required to shift the hip for "balance")

3. Put your right foot back on the ground. (Pose has again been destroyed and will again need to be rebuilt to recompensate for the character "balance" being shifted.)

A VERY SIMPLE animation, there are in fact presets to do just exactly that, I think its called "bend left leg" or something. It works great, but does not account for any weight balancing. try it, stand up, leave your weight on both feet, now lift your right leg... note how you immediately attempt to balance yourself (or fall over.)

So I guess what I am looking for is a way to LOCK a foot or hand in the X, Y, Z position, while a pose is built around that status.

Need an example? Stand up and as before lift your right leg to left knee height, now look over your right shoulder. Note how much your torso is twisting, from the hip up, (actually from the left foot up, but that's another subject.)

Twist the other way, look over your left shoulder. Do a Karate kick.

go back to default pose.

So, with all those body movements and twists. how much did the foot you have on the ground move along the X, Y and Z axis? My answer is "not a hole heck of a lot". Yes it had roll, twist, side to side, but NOT X, Y or Z.

I've found that pinning translation does nothing, moving the hip moves the foot right along with it. the foot does point to the pinned location, but it still moves. requiring a rebuilt of the entire pose.

And this is really getting monotonous since I just explained a 1/4 of a second long animation, that's 20 frames and each one the pose has to be rebuilt. and I STILL get wandering feet.

Help before I go insane!

Apparently, the rules have changed? I set the lumens at 50,000. like I used to have to do, and I rendered a rather nice totally white scene.

What are the new rules to know? Is there a good tut somewhere?

Also, I can't see the projected light in the scene anymore, but it does render, what's with that? I turned off 'Render Emitter' like I sometimes used to have to do. So confused and Googling the subject is of no help.

Thanks!

I put water in my scene and it made everything dim.

Clarification: I changed my water from a primitive plane to a primitive cube and the cube version made everything dim.

[Edit: SOLVED: I did not know that my distant light was INSIDE the cube of water, because I made the cube so huge and did not check to see where it really was. The surface of the water in the images are the BOTTOM surface of the cube, not the top.]

[Edit: Further experimentation reveals that using the cube version effectively turns off my distant light in the renders.]

This is iRay.

Is this normal and to be expected? Or is this a glitch?

Am I just going to have to crank up my light when I add water to a scene this way?

Or is my method for adding water the real problem? I’ve never done it before, so I don’t know.

First image: a 5000 meter primitive plane with the Daz Studio water shader applied. 1 distant light from above.

Second image: a 5000 meter primitive cube with same shader and light. I stopped the render early.

Through the years I got a really huge content database - I used SSDs for better velocity, but the capacities of the SSDs were not so huge (compared with common HDs...); so I now have my content in several Libraries - I just had to open the fourth . It's possible to work with these several libraries, f.e. the search function of the CMS includes all files - and I have some vague ideas where I have to look for which content. But of course the content structure is far away from being optimal. For example: it would be much better to have the files sorted by Genesis generations instead of having G2, G3 and G8 files in several of my "My Libraries" - if I continue to work with the several SSDs/Libraries. Another idea would be to "re-unite" all Libraries on a big HD; then all Genesis generations files would be re-united and sorted, too - the only question in both scenaries is: Would the installed content work within a new absolute file path structure?

I think there is no absolute file path given in the installation manifest files (and of course I can copy the content of an installation archive manually to a Library of my choice...). So I would guess, if I open a character or wearable *.duf file in a specific directory/path (f.e. My Library 3\People\Genesis 8 Female\Characters\Pei) it would try to load the necessary texture files from lets say the "textures" folder within the same main directory/path (in this case My Library 3) of the *.duf file? Then of course a re-organisation would be possible - I guess that should be the case, because I don't see how an absolute path should get into the *.duf file if I just copy the content into the Library without using the DIM.

But before I dare to try, I ask the community and the experts ...

Thanks for your advice.
