Does anyone know how to work these for hair and/or cloth? The "tutorial" that comes with it kinda sucks and leaves out key information.

Let me give you an example;

Step 1) Make sure to apply the scalp preset onto anything that does not move.

...

...

HOW?! How exactly are we supposed to do that? You give the steps what to do to make them work, but you don't say HOW to do it? I really have no idea how to select JUST the scalp on a hair because I've never had to before, and while I understand WHY you have to... I mean, you need an anchor point for the rest of the hair, you left out the HOW to apply the scalp preset onto anything that does not move. I really have no idea what you are talking about so if you could a much more comprehensive tutorial, or make one available? That would REALLY be a nice way to make this a much more effective product.

Searched the forums, didn't find anything relating to this.

The product "Studio Type Room" has its own lights set up as emissive surfaces, all of which are fairly high in lumen count (many of them over 1mil), and in the promo images, the room lights up quite well.

However, every single time I try to render it - no tweaking, no fiddling, nothing, just straight out of the box - the scene comes out incredibly dark.

So dark, in fact, that I've been trying to up the luminosity on the surfaces (by rather a lot), to little effect.

I've been running this test render of just the room, no other props or figures, for about 2hrs now, and it's not finished, but as you can see from the attached screenshot, it's never going to be anywhere near as bright as the promo images. This is with default emissive surfaces and default cameras as included with the product.

Anyone else used this, and had this problem? What was your solution? This room looks like it should have great lighting, but... apparently no?

So... been using an Iray Server via DAZ for a little while... and while it sorta works, there are some distinct issues

First of all, it doesn't seem to adhere to collision detection, and even sometimes just suddenly decides that something that previously rendered just fine will no longer render (with only minor changes to the scene, ie something that shouldn't affect the actually affected parts, like changing the expression on a face, and having the parts have holes in them...)

So, I was wondering if anyone who has used Iray Server has any solutions to these issues, or suggestions on how to get around them?

The attached images are rendered on the same server, with the exact same settings (it's the same scene, only difference is that the eyes are closed on the one that is broken)

Hi, I've just started tinkering with DAZ and am having an issue with lighting. I've uploaded a small (400kb) scene file here to demonstrate the problem.

The scene is a simple, but very large (100m) room with four walls and a ceiling, and one point light 50m up. It looks correct in the viewport in Iray preview mode:

But in texture shaded mode, it looks like this:

How can I fix this scene so I can work with it in texture shaded?

I know I can hit CTRL+L to turn on a camera headlight, but that doesn't work too well since everything in the actual scene I'm working on is still quite dark.

After tinkering, I've discovered that I can fix the problem by going into every object shader and assigning it a white Emission Color, but is that going to be practical later on? Does Emission Color actually do anything if the accompanying slider is set to 0?

Edit: typo

After going through videos and discovering and solving (more or less) all the bugs this software has (crashes, disappearing files, panes changing location for no reason at opening, non responsive buttons, etc...), I finally came across one that I really can't fix: the rotating/orbiting tools has stopped working. All other oving tools work, except this one. I tried both the hot keys and the actual tool in the viewport, nothing. I tried to close and re-open Daz several times... same result. It is so incredibly frustrating to be stuck in the same place for such a stupid thing.

I'm finding it hard to love DForce at the moment, because as it stands it cannot be used. Here is a short list of problems I'm facing when trying to drape even the most simple of outfits:

1. "ERROR: Memory Object Allocation Failure (-4)"
Seems to be the most common issue. I've had to switch to CPU (!) simulation just to avoid this one a lot of the time. I've heard it could be a driver issue, but rolling back drivers only seemed to make matters worse rather than alleviate it in any way. Surely the latest drivers should be the better option, and if not does the problem lie with NVIDIA or with the DForce system itself?

2. Terrible collision.
Outfits just don't 'collide' with the characters and prefer to sink through the skin. Oh, but not as a whole, that would make it too obvious, instead only parts of the outfit sink inside the character, while the rest is flung around as the dynamic engine desperately tries to reconcile the dynamics of an intersecting object. It makes some very interesting floral-like patterns (see attached) but ultimately fails to provide even a basic drape.

3. Simply failing to even try
Some times, DForce just gives up. I'll click the simulate button only to be greeted with an error before it ever attempts it. The generic error it provides probably won't help much, since it is basically just complaining about memory, but with 6GB VRAM and 32Gb RAM I should hope something as simple as geometry calculations shouldn't tax it quite as much. When I first saw this error, I removed 90% of the scene, leaving just the character and the outfit, and it suddenly started working, but considering all of those objects were far outside the collision area to begin with, it seems odd I would have to do this at all.

I would really like to get more out of this system, and I have a number of DForce clothing items I'd like to get some use out of (to say nothing of the non-dynamic items I want to add DForce to). If there are any solutions or things I can try out to get to the bottom of my problems let me know. It's been driving me crazy!

I'm guessing that GoZ would send a DAZ-product Fibermesh hair back into Zbrush as pure geometry, without access to the Fibermesh tools (probably a good thing, for reasons of copyright). Is there any other way to move the existing Fibermesh around to tweak a hairstyle a little bit, or am I just going to have to buckle down and learn to make my own hair from scratch?

It's a bit frustrating because an existing Fibermesh hair I've bought is soooo close to being perfect for a character, it just needs a little style tweaking in the front. But unfortunately, the built-in morphs don't quite cut it!

Setting up a new PC without redownloading in DIM

I am going to install Daz on a new PC. On my old PC, I installed most things with Daz Install Manager. This created the folder C:\Users\Public Documents\Daz 3D\InstallManager. The big folder under that is Downloads, where all my purchased content was downloaded before installing. But there are also Filters and ManifestFile folders. I copied the whole InstallManager folder to my FreeNAS file server.

After I install Daz itself on the new PC, I'm hoping I can configure the DIM on it so it can use my old downloads without needing to download them all again. In the Settings dialog, there is a setting for the download folder (defaulting to C:\Users\Public Documents\Daz 3D\InstallManager\Downloads). I can change this to point to the place I moved my old downloads, on my file server. (Or I can copy all my downloads to the C: drive of my new PC.) But what do I need to do to make DIM know that all these files are downloaded but not yet installed on the new PC?

How to move CMS db files during installation

OK, another one! (A late night install for me) I'm trying to get the cms files off of the C: drive. They got installed to C:\Users\raymand\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms. I see in Edit | Preferences, there is a CMS tab where this folder is specified. I'd like to move this cms directory to my D: drive. But I think I cannot copy it cleanly while the Postgres db is running. If I try in File Explorer, it complains about one of the files. Is there an easy way to stop and start CMS? Then maybe I could move the cms folder to D: and update the preference setting, then restart CMS.

There is also a tutorial on "Installation 101" for Daz. It alludes to a checkbox on the 3rd screen (after you accept the program and content licenses) to customize cms. Supposedly if you checked it, then when it got to the cms installation, it would prompt you for where you wanted it. But this check box is not found on the latest version of Daz, and you never get a prompt asking where you want the cms database.

I have a strange thing happening to a mesh which I try to simulate in d-force. Part of it disappears when running the simulation. I tried reducing the mesh, as it seemed too dense and exploded. After reducing that seemed to be ok, but then the mesh disappeared. Or rather part of it. it is a uniform which I originally had as a single unit. The pants remained and simulated, while the top disappeared. After reducing some more the buttons on the sleeves stayed visible, while all the rest of the top still made a disappearing act. Does anybody know what the problem might be? I suspect there are too many overlapping elements...Or stress on the mesh... but I had other dresses work fine with things overlapping or being layered.

Hey all.

There might be a simple solution to this, but my tiny brain can't figure it out. I'm looking at doing some really simple almost "cartoony" characters, who have skin textures that are just flat colours. Problem is, when using a texture that is just all one colour, I'm getting these strange blotches as seen here:

As far as I can tell, it's only with certain darker colours, but not all.

Has anyone ever seen this before, and any idea what causes it?

Thanks,

Cheet.

Am I looking at a long and difficult process where it'd be easier to fake it with a mostly-invisible overlayed clone, or is there some sneaky way to do this?

Ok, so I still have a lot of really ancient bits and pieces in my runtime like this: https://www.sharecg.com/v/32682/view/11/Poser/Shackles-and-chains-colelction-for-Poser and I've had these items forever. I'm not worried about the chains, they've never worked right as far as I can see, but the belt USED to. In fact I just loaded Aiko3 up in DAZ2.3 on my old WinXP machine and then loaded and parented the belt to her - no problem what-so-ever. But when I try to load the belt into a scene in DAZ4.10 it apparently causes everything in the scene to become size 0. If I increase the size of the belt to anything higher than 100% the scene returns to normal and the belt shows up. But if I parent it to anything, again the whole scene becomes size 0. At least that's what it LOOKS like to me. Can anyone please figure out what is up with this?
