I was experimenting and testing with a shader, doesn’t look the way I was hoping and now I can’t get rid of it. Tried looking at manuals and forums, can’t figure it out. How do I remove a shader or clear all shaders?

Hi. I've been planning to make my own expressions using Blendshapes in Maya for the genesis 2 model. But I think I'm going to need to apply morphs before I apply facegen or other existing deformation like fat/thin which will change where the points are and effect the deformation too much. Also, I'd really rather not have to retarget the blendshapes for every character I make. Ideally I'd like to do it once for a gen 2 male and once for a gen 2 female and be done with it. I don't mind making them in Daz though I don't think there's soft selection or the alphas I'd like to use. So a Maya or Zbrush or Cinema 4d solution would be ideal.

I'd like to get rid of the facial deformers as a whole (except for the phonetic ones) and just use my own which would be more basic stretching and squooshing.

1 Anyone ever do that? If so what wisdom can you give me.

2 How do you delete deformers. I obviously want to have them on my default gen 2 model.

3 Is there a way of doing it without retargeting a finished model that I've facegened and applied other deformation to.

Also...what's the Daz term for the face expression change things? Morphs? Deformers? Blendshapes? Poodles? I went to a Daz website where they called them morphs (because of Franz Kafka evidently). But they were also sprinkling around other terms. Cinema calls them polymorphs which I thought was an evil alien in Red Dwarf. Maya, Zbrush, and 3D coat call them blendshapes. It's just confusing. Why didn't I decide to do 2D animation?

I'm almost always using Dome and Scene with sphere primitive as the sun node. Maybe 1 or 2 spotlights as "helper lights" when needed and if it's a indoor scene i add ghost lights.

Most of the time hd morphs are clearly visible no matter if its bright or dark. And sometimes i can't get them visible at all. And my subdivision levels on my characters are always 3 or 4.

The character below has alot of stretchmarks and cellulites from "Aging Morphs for Genesis 8" on her belly and hips but they wont show up on this render. What is causing this?

I know it's not the morphs fault. It's something with lighting i think. But what? And why do they work in some scenes and not in others?

It's happening with all kinds of hd morphs. Not just those mentioned above.

Hi
I've been trying to get a detailed human into C4D and have one from Daz I like, based on a G2F Victoria HD morph.
I've tried exporting FBX for both standard Victoria and Victoria HD, and bringing these into the same C4D file. There does not appear to be any difference in the mesh, to my eyes, nor when overlaying the 2 meshes. They look identical.

From reading in the forums and googling, I thought HD was based on SubD and had more detail in terms of musculature or other body detail. Am I wrong?
Or is the detail of the HD addon, just "enabling" a SubD inside Daz only?
What am I missing here?
I basically want to get the most detailed human I can out of Daz to render with a non-Daz render engine. G3 is causing issues for me in terms of motion because of the additional bones, so I am sticking with G2 for now.

Am I misunderstanding the HD add on? Perhaps I am exporting the FBX with the wrong morph settings?

*EDIT*
Found the answer after I posted this, turns out as a new user I am as confused as other were before me. No HD export, limited to PAs only.

So I would be interested in what tips people could give for more realism? 4k maps and displacement? Anything else?

[Solved] Weird clipping on forehead

Hi all. I tried submitting a ticket, and they came up with nothing, so...fingers cross someone here can figure out the issue.

In the attached images (a partial render that I stopped because of the clipping, and then a spot render with that...click and drag tool thing), there's weird spots on the guy's forehead. Primarily on his left side, but there's a bit on the right as well. They don't show in the viewport before I render, but in this scene, they're there consistently when I render.

When I loaded him into an empty scene and tried the spot render thing, though, there were no problems.

Here's info that may or may not be relevant:

* Windows 10, 64 bit machine, gtx 1070, intel core i7
* daz studio version 4.10
* using iray
* Scene - Anderson Hall iray
* three lights aimed at him in a 3-point setup
* Anderson Hall lights are on, as is a dome and some ghost lights to make the room brighter before I bothered to add the spotlights
* he has on some gen 3 clothes that I ran through the converter
* he's using Gunner's skin, but his face is a combo of Andre, Marcus, Lucas 8, Gunner, and a lot of tweaking with the 200 plus morphs tool.
* he's using Matthew hair for g8, which I initially thought was the problem, but...idk. The daz people couldn't reproduce the issue, so it might not be the hair at all.

I did some searching and found this: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/279146/solved-iray-glitches-problems-with-the-skin-hair-black-spots, but it didn't seem to help. I definitely have all iray mats applied, and I can't move him to 0 0 0 because, well, he needs to be by the door... And I checked that the hair is parented to the character, so that doesn't seem to be the problem, either.

Any help would be awesome since I'm completely lost. Thanks!!!

This week I installed the new Daz Studio 4.11 Public Beta version, and made a new Facegen installation. The only difference from previous installations is that this time I had to move my (only the) Daz Studio Content to some another drive due to space issues. The thing is that Facegen seems to not recognize the Daz installation and keeps telling me all the time that DAZ is not installed. I guess the problem is that I haven't found the way to redirect Facegen to the proper Daz path. Any clue with this respect? Please. I would appreciate a lot your comments in this regard.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share a test I recently ran when I added a 256GB Samsung 970 Evo to my rig instead of running everything off of my WD Blue SSD.

I first started by benching the SSDs on CrystalMark to make sure at least the theoretical numbers made sense, which they did. On a 4K Q1T1 Read Test they came in at 37 MB/s for the SATA III vs 61 MB/s for the NVMe.

I created a 3 different scenes to test this on, but all of the scenes followed the same results, so I will just report on the scene with 3 G3Fs with various clothing and hair in an interior enviornment.

I ran the test with each scene in 3 different hardware setups:

1. Everything on SATA III (NVMe drive isn't installed yet)

2. OS and Apps on the NVMe, but Daz content on SATA III

3. Everything on the NVMe

I tested both the time it took to load the scene into DAZ (with no Iray preview) and the time it took to begin the render in Iray. I didn't excpect the Iray render to launch any quicker since the textures should already be in RAM and just going to VRAM (I think that is correct). I did expect the scene load times to decrease to some extent assuming the drive speed was at least some of the bottleneck, however that wasn't the case. All scenes loaded in the same time no matter the SSD setup I had. I got the following results from loading the scene 5 times and averaging the load times:

26 seconds to load into DAZ viewport and 107 seconds to load into Iray and begin the render.

So it appears that the drive isn't the bottleneck in regards to load times when comparing SATA III to NVMe speeds, or at least not for my system. I wasn't too concerned with load times, but I figured if I was upgrading I'd go ahead and test it since I didn't find much data on it when researching. If anyone has done a similar or other relevant tests and has results that show NVMe performing better I'd love to hear about it.

I'm pretty new to this so I only have about 60GB of content, but now I know for future reference that it is probably worth saving the money and putting all my content on a SATA III drive instead of going with NVMe as my library expands.

My build for reference:

Ryzen 1700X

32GB (16 x 2) Geil Forza 2400GHz RAM

Asus Prime x370-Pro (PCIe 3.0 x8/x8 for GPUs)

GTX 960 4GB (for monitors only)

GTX 1070 Ti (rendering only)

256GB SSD M.2 NVMe 970 Evo

500GB SSD 2.5" SATA III WD Blue (the older 2D Nand version)

Corsair TX750M PSU

If you look at this sleeve, you will see that something is clearly wrong. I guess I could try to Photoshop it post render but that would probably be a bit of a mess. Can't I just correct it in Studio?

I have noticed recently that my system seemed to be slowing down. Well, I checked my hard drive tonight and found \I only have about 50 GB left on my main (app/program) 600GB hard drive. Went looking for the culprets and foudn that my Install manager folder is 140 GB & My DAZ 3D Library folder is 220GB. That explains the slow/slugish operation. The question is what would be the best way to cull the Install manager files and my DAZ 3D Library files. I have a ton of content that I am not using.and need to remove from my main drive. I probably need to just flush the whole thing and reformat but I am missing some install discs (my Office 2007 & Paintshop Pro discs in particular) but not ready to go buy new office software yet. Is there a way to remove content that I have downloaded to install manager while still showing it is installed in DS 4.10? I know I can use install manager to remove content from DS4.10 that it installed but I will have to manually hunt down and uninstall files that were manually installed from other sites. Suggestions?

I set my custom texture to an object. It shows up in the "Texture shaded" viewport, but not in IRAY render. The problem has to be somewhere in the surface settings, because the original settings was, that the object was set to chrome and was reflective. I am attaching the current surface settings of the object, where the texture is not showing up.

Hello,

I've been working with daz for a while, still learning the ropes. My main application is C4D.

Whenever I try to export content from DAZ to Cinema, though, it comes out misaligned with the main model (tested with Genesis 8 Male and Female figures and items which were made for them). It happens when I use both collada and fbx formats, tried to play with different settings, but no luck :(

The poses themselves were originally made for Genesis 3, but I reckon if they work in DAZ, they should export alright as well? My DAZ version is 4.10.0.123 if that's of any significance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I modeled a simple chess piece (pawn) in Blender and exported the mesh as an OBJ. Imported into Daz3D a-ok. Added various textures (e.g. NVIDIA MDL Examples, also some IRAY marble assets just purchased). But the pawn only shows a solid color. For marble, it has the correct reflections, but the marble veins never show up. For primitives (plane, sphere), the marble texture shows up a-ok.

I tried copying the texture from the sphere to the pawn, but no luck. Why would only color, glossyness show up on a mesh imported from an OBJ? The base color of the pawn, plane and sphere are set to white. And they all have the proper image loaded as a texture. See attached.

NOTE: The issue isn't just with the preview; an actual IRAY render causes the same output; no veins on the pawn. Just on the plane and sphere.

iMac Pro, macOS 10.14 (Mojave), DAZStudio 4.10.0.123, CPU rendering (GPU is a Radeon Pro Vega 56)

Something has gone wrong with my DS 4.8 Export User Data function, when I try now it gets to Gathering User Data, most times goes Not Responding, and then shuts down, other times just shuts down, never having exported anything. I get this message in the log every time:

WARNING: dzpostgresqlobjectdatabase.cpp(39): DB Select error: ERROR: canceling statement due to statement timeout
DB Select error: ERROR: canceling statement due to statement timeout

I backed up my content directory to an external HDD last Sunday, and the last update (I think) worked was Monday. Restoring the user data files from that Backup to the Support directory makes no difference, deleting the User Data files so it has to create them from scratch makes no difference - it never starts creating new ones. I tried reinstalling 4.8 (which uninstalls the previous copy but keeps my settings. Other than this 4.8 and 4.9 Beta are working fine.

Can anyone suggest anything else I can try to get it working again so I am able to import my catagories into 4.9 beta whenever I catagorise in 4.8?

Thanks

Does the "UberSurface2 Layered Shader" work in Daz Studio 4.10? I believe I've installed all of it's files correctly, but when I apply the UberSurface2 base shader to the surface of say, a primitive, the surface parameters are truncated a lot so that there's only Diffuse Color, Opacity Strength, UV set, Smooth and Angle. I also have a product called "Lumina Materials Library" (which apparently depends on the UberSurface2 Layered Shader) and none of these work either. Do these products work at all now??

I've worked on two G8M characters over the past few weeks which have white eyes after render (brand new to Daz3D), first one I figured I'd find out later what happened (really tired when I noticed the white eyes). The second time was last night. I have worked on at least one other G8M character using Edward 8 with no issues. I cannot recall if the first white eyed character was built off of the G8M base, last night was. I have not stumbled across this in other versions, G3M, M4, G2, etc.
