I'm looking for information or even a utility,in order to export or otherwise reconstruct Daz textures that are multi layered for use in a different app.

I've been fairly successful converting some scenes and items into Lightwave via FBX export. This gets you most of the way but textures only come over as a standard material, no PBR support, so there's some manual work needed.

For most surfaces this has been pretty straight forward, but I've come across an item in Stomemason's "Streets of the Wild West" where the terrain object has multiple layers using weight map images. Unfortunately, these add'l layers are simply named Layer1, Layer2, etc.

Any way to find out what these correspond to short of just contacting Stonemason?

One of the things i've been trying to experimient with lately is making hair, the hair particle system has been pretty good at making that. Though when I import it into daz, I notice that overall performance greatly reduces. Currently what I do after setting up the hair is making it into a new mesh and using the screw modifier (since otherwise it's invisible in daz)

Anything that could be done to deal with this?

I have two PCs: the one I am typing on now, and another isolated machine that never EVER goes online. My DAZ content is spread over several folders, and across several HDDs, and I can never remember where I put things. I plan to get another HDD (a big one!) and install ALL my 3D content on it so it is all together.

Ideally I would place this new blank HDD in a pod or enclosure, download and install a fresh copy of all my content (yikes!), then physically move the pod to my offline machine and keep it there. Not copy it to the offline machine, just work directly off the pod. Whenever I acquire more content I would bring the pod back to this (online) PC, install the new items to it, then take it back to the offline PC again.

Is that practical? Is it as simple as plugging the pod in, pointing DS at it, and seeing everything appear in my Content folder? Am I overlooking something?

Cheers

Hi gang!

As we all probably know all your contents basically get stored in several ways. First is the content library; the actual (physical) location where Daz Studio ("DS") stores all its contents. And it's also the place where you can add downloaded contents yourself (though using your personal library might be safer). This location is easily accessible using the Content Library pane within DS (when in doubt check out the Windows menu: Windows => Panes (Tabs) => Content Library).

Next there's another storage area: the CMS, powered by PostgreSQL. This is actually the thing which powers the smart content pane, the area where you can easily pick out all the assets you want to add to your scenery and which will automatically filter the displayed items based on your selection.

Now... DS allows for database maintenance which also allows you to export your user data. Its easy: right click on the Content Library tab and select "Content DB Maintenance...", this is your main area for most common maintenance issues. From re-scanning your contents, marking all as seen right down to consolidating, condensing and... Exporting your data.

But here's my reason for all this: it only exports user data (according to the documentation), but what about the rest? When I back something up I want a full backup. Fortunately for us PostgreSQL allows for just that, and its easy too:

Fire up DS or the DIM but don't do anything in particular. This will also start the CMS (PostgreSQL).

Find your DS program folder, the main folder should also contain something called: "PostgreSQL CMS" which is what we're after.

Open a commandline (cmd.exe on Windows) and navigate to this folder, specifcally the bin folder underneath it.

On Windows: Win-R => Enter "cmd" (don't include "") to start it => use 'cd' to go to the program folder. In my case I'd use: cd "\program files\daz 3d\postgresql cms\bin". Note that you can use TAB for command completion.

Enter this: pg_dump -f ..\daz-cms.sql -d Content -p 17237 -U dzcms -w

This will create a (text) file called daz-cms.sql in the directory above it which will contain all of your CMS contents.

Example and proof of concept:

Now for step 2...

Restoring your data

Warning, warning, warning: Do NOT use this option casually, only resort to this method when the other options don't work for you. DS provides several options on its own (like the option to re-import all your meta data) and those should be tried before resorting to all this. The reason I mention this anyway is two folded: what good is a backup without a means to restore? And because I'm not too sure how well DS will cope with any manually added meta data (like manually adding contents to the smart content pane).

Use all the steps above to end up with a running PostgreSQL and naviate to the bin directory using the commandline.

Then use this command (this assumes the previously created text file to be in the above directory): pg_restore -f ..\daz-cms.sql -d Content -p 17237 -U dzcms -w.

Close DS (or the DIM) without making any chances and wait a moment before restarting it.

Once again I need to stress out that you shouldn't use this method casually, but it can be a full proof way of making sure that all your CMS data is kept safe.

Hope this can benefit someone.

I can't find a readme, tutorial, instruction doc. I'm not trying to create a model to sell. I'd just like to have different brows on a character I'm trying to render. Can someone point me to a tutorial, either video or pdf, or provide steps to apply the product to a model from the point of the model being loaded in the scene and brows removed? I've seen instructions about selecting the brows. Where do I do that? In the Parameters/Actors tab? In the Surfaces tab? In the Shaping tab? In the Scene tab? If it's the Parameters tab, do I select all six properties for inner, middle, outer? What about center? I'm sure I'm making this a lot more difficult than it should be, but some clear, detail steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello!

For whatever reason, the new Daz Install Manager update won't run :(

I've tried running both x32 and x64 versions, and I get the same errors. I've tried uninstalling Daz, Install Manager, and all files related to them, and reinstalling everything, but to no avail. Problem persists. This is the error that pops up when I try running the DIM after the install:

Once I click OK and try running it again, it just crashes as soon as I open it. I'm running a mid-2015 MBP 15" with most recent version of High Sierra. Anyone else have this issue?

Hello to all from Nottingham. I am hoping someone can tell me how I have managed to do the following and how I can undo it.

I have been working at creating figures to sell ( hopefully ) and had a practice at saving a test morphed figure as a character using the instructions in the Daz Help Pages. There are now two problems.

Firstly, and quite minor, the new figure does not show up in the contents.

Secondly, and really disasterously, every Genesis 3 female figure I now open loads with the new test figure morphs installed giving bizarre results and I can't get rid of the effect. If I zero the figure to get the morphs out and save the figure, it still loads with the morphs installed when I next load it. This has effectively turned all my Genesis 3 Females into weird alien shapes as it seems to have mixed with their shapes and amplified the morphs out of all proportion. I have found the DUF file for the trial figure and deleted it, but the Gen 3 figures still somehow find the morphs and load with them.

Can anyone please tell me what I have doe wrong, how I can undo it and if possible, how to properly save the new figures properly as the Daz Help page is years old and still marked as WIP ?

Many Thanks in advance, Alan

This might have been answered already and if it has, please accept my most humble apology.

I'm using two dForce hair products, the Classic long hair, and Bang Bob in a lot of renders recently. The draping and look of the hair is really great for my purposes. However, I'm at the point where simple positioning of the head, body, etc., is really not giving me the results I want. So, here goes with the question. It seems to me it should be possible to pause a simulation make a manual adjustment then resume the simulation from the point of the pause with the changes I made manually as the resume point in the simulation. I think I've seen this before and may have even done it when the blanket, pillow, etc., tutorial was made. What happens is this: The simulation resets whenever the simulate button is hit. That isn't what I'm after. Is what I'm after even possible?

Thanks!

Scott

PS. As an example... look at this render. I would like to wrap the right side hair over the top of the figures head and have it drape naturally over the left shoulder in front.

So, i seem to have run into a problem. As i have added rnew content, some will work with DIM and others wont, so I install manually. But it seems i have duplicates (if thats possible). Some tiems show up and otehrs dont. I was thinknig of reinstalling Daz3d and going with fresh copy to start over. Is there anyway to know which content is installed so I can readd it later without having to look thru each file?

I used to use Daz starting at the end of Daz 2.x into Daz 3.x and up. My content library was very easy to understand and was well-organized, things showed up without any issues ever. This isn't the case in the more recent versions of Daz. In 4.10, I can barely find any of my items- even those installed with DIM- and it has to be in Daz Studio Format. Poser Format doesn't show anything. Here's what it looks like.

I've tried different folder setups I've seen around while trying to find what I've done wrong here. Any help is much appreciated!
