Hi All,

Hopefully this is a quick one. I'm opening some older files that were saved as scenes, characters etc.

Is there a place that will identify all of the file's original elements? As in, the original actor/character and/or add-ons for that character. Such as, was the original Genesis 1 or G2, and/or Victoria 4, 5, 6, and/or Giselle, Dawn...? That kind of thing. Got some older characters and don't remeber where i started with them as for as reference for clothing, add-ons, and all that.

Thanks.

I usually use Daz just to get a basic pose that I can paint over, but this time I wanted to get a realistic result after export.

I used a gen8 model and exported it to 3ds max via OBJ because I couldn't get fbx to work (not sure if that makes any difference regarding textures).

The first thing I noticed was that the skin looked like garbage compared to Daz's render. I put it down to the lack of specular info in the export.

So I learned about the Texture Atlas export options and did that, but it only gave me diffuse, bump and normal. I spent about two days trying to figure all this out and could not figure out how to get specular info to export. In the end I just took the bumps and edited them in Photoshop and put those in the reflection channels. As such, you could really see the seams because they obviously weren't matching up.

*when I looked at the glossy channels inside Daz, it was just color info, no textures at all. Yet, in the Iray render you could clearly see really nice specular detail.

Any advice on how to match the realism would be much appreciated. I've lost hair over this I swear! :p

I recently upgraded my system to dual RTX 2080 Ti GPUs, and since only 4.11 beta currently supports these cards I've been using that, with success. Initially I rendered with SLI enabled and everything ran fine, except I was having some temperature issues with both cards running where the top card ran a little hotter than I liked. I turned SLI off and switched to rendering with only one card until I got things worked out. But now when I try to render with both cards, SLI on, Iray automatically switches to CPU rendering. I know it's not a VRAM problem, I have plenty to spare with what I'm trying to render. But Iray doesn't want to use my cards and I can't figure out why. Thanks for any help!

I've been having this problem for a while, whenever I load a piece of clothing that's originally for V4 on G3F using Wear Them All, and then I apply a smoothing modifier, everything's fine. However, when I close DAZ and reopen it and load the scene, the clothes now have this weird protrusion (like in the attachment) that can only go away if I turn off smoothing modifiers, or load a new piece of the same clothing and put a smoothing modifier on. These two ways are unfavorable of course, so how I do avoid having the original pieces of clothing from messing up? It only affects clothes that were fitted using Wear Them All.

When I started DIM today, I expected to see my Ready to Download list include only some products I purchased yesterday, and maybe a smattering of updating products. I did find one updated product, all of my new products, and dozens of DAZ products I have purchased over the years - in the Ready to Download tab. For lack of a better term, I'll call these OldReady products.

I cannot determine anything in common among the OldReady products that appear on both my "Ready to Download" and "Installed" tabs. When I hover over an OldReady product on either the "Ready to Download" tab or the Installed tab, there are "Install Date", "Installed By" and "Installed To" fields, and they are all what I expect and I see the same values for the corresponding OldReady product when I hover over it on the Installed tab.

Some of the OldReady products were purchased this year, some over the last two years. Some are tutorials, poses, clothing, characters, hair, iray shaders, environments. So, the order dates vary and the type of content varies, and other content with the same order dates or types of content are fine. I can't determine a pattern, but there are two sets of purchases I've made that stand out because of lot of items from Ravenhair and Alessandro_AM are in the OldReady list.

Is this known DIM behavior? Is there a way to force DIM to rebuild what's Ready to Download and what's Installed and list items on only one tab?

Nvidia Tesla K40m - The Word from Nvidia

These have been discussed here and there as regarding their use with Iray. I've finally received official word from Nvidia regarding their use in workstation/non-server systems, and I quote:

It's a system incompatibility. Tesla cards (with a few historical exceptions, e.g. C2075, K20c, K40c) are designed to be purchased and installed (only) in an OEM server system certified for their use. HP does not certify any of their workstations for any current Tesla cards, nor were any ever certified for K40m usage. If you buy a Tesla card believing you can install it in any system you want, you are asking for trouble. It is simply not possible, in the general case, and there is no design intent to make it possible.

There is no documentation to support this configuration. There is no OEM system load or card lock. The resources in question are resources that would be assigned to PCI BAR regions by the system BIOS during the PCI plug-and-play enumeration process. The K40m requires a large complement of resources. A system that cannot or will not assign these resources will cause the cards to be non-functional. There is nothing you can do to fix this (barring modification of user-accessible BIOS settings that modify the BIOS resource assignment behavior).

A server designed to support this card of course has taken these requirements into account in the design of the server, which includes the design of the system BIOS. It's not a "lock" of any sort. In most cases, a PCIE Tesla GPU can be easily enough removed from a supported HP server configuration and placed in a supported Dell server configuration (just to pick a random pair/example), with full expectation that it should work normally.

But your workstation is not a supported configuration for that GPU. There are many statements like this on these forums.

Tesla K40 is an obsolete product. For non-obsolete products, you can find supported server configurations here:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/data-center/tesla/tesla-qualified-servers-catalog/

There is no suggestion anywhere that Tesla cards can be placed in any system you want with an expectation of proper behavior.

Original thread at Nvidia:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1039289/cuda-setup-and-installation/k40-setup-on-lenovo-p510/

This was in response to my query at Nvidia's Developer site for help as to why the two K40ms I'd recently purchased from Ebay would not work in my HP Z600 Workstation, posing the question as to whether OEMs have installed any sort of proprietary lock in the card's BIOS so they only work with their branded systems.

Note the K40c is stated as an exception (presumably because it has a cooling fan, where the K40m does not). It's not just the lack of a cooling system (which is easy to get around), but the actual resource demands of the card, which server BIOS' are customized for.

Now, could a server BIOS be injected into a workstation board? If so, would it work then? I'm half tempted to inquire (and expect the obligatory "LOL no" response) and half tempted to just throw these two back on Ebay and focus on building a 1080ti-based "VCA alternative".

At any rate, this is more info about these than I've found in a month (literally) of searching. Most of what I'd found was simplistic "these are intended for AI/Deep Learning/Use in servers TL/DR" without actual information as to "why". Now I have "the why", and I'm sharing it here to help others avoid the issue I've been dealing with every day since November 22nd.

So is it important to have the animation go in the right order? (neutral to posed, rather than posed to neutral) if so, how to I flip it around?

If the clothing and accessories are supposed to 'stick' to her in 3ds max (they stick/parent ok inside Daz btw) then how do I fix that?

Edit: I figured out how to reverse the animation, she now comes in A-posed with accessories fitting, then I animate to posed and again, accessories stay in A pose.

SickleYield's Genesis 8 Clones for Genesis 3 - missing icons?

Hi,

I've just installed Genesis 8 Clones for Genesis 3 for DAZ Studio (Mac) and I'm a bit baffled what to do with it.

According to the instructions (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/50977/start):

You can find new icons for loading this product in the following DAZ Studio Folders:

“People:Genesis 3 Female:Shapes”

“People:Genesis 3 Male:Shapes”

But the only icon in the folder is a link to SickleYield's store. I can't see any way of loading the cloning tools (screenshot attached). I've checked the list of files at (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/50977/file_list) and they all seem to be in place, so am I missing something obvious? I have quit DS, restarted it - no luck and uninstalled and reinstalled the package - no change.

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Mike.

Saving a UV in zBrush (related to GoZ)

If I create a UV on a Genesis 8 Female model in zBrush (like UV master), how do I save that UV as its own file and reload back onto the same model for later use at a different time?

Now I know what some of you are going to say. For example, the UV becomes a part of the model and therefore there is no need for a separate file. You load the model up and the UV is right there with it.

However, here’s my problem why I need a separate UV file.

If GoZ a G8F model from Daz Studio its UV follows through with it. (I know this to be true because zBrush will let me delete the UV from its menu item.) I apply a mask on the G8F model. I want to reuse this mask in the future and I create an alpha.

I examine the alpha and see that the original daz G8F model’s UV created seams in the mask alpha. If I clear the mask on the model in zBrush, I reapply the mask using this perverted alpha then the seams show up in the mask applied to the G8F model. The mask now differs from the original created mask. Totally not what I want!

Workaround. Go to UV Master and paint protect and attract areas on model. Unwrap the model. This means I have a new UV. I create a new mask and create an alpha on it. The alpha preserves the mask as originally designed per the new UV. I have exactly what I want, but I can’t reuse it again for later use. It’s a one trick pony.

You see I use GoZ to bring the model back and forth from Daz Studio to zBrush. If I were to load a saved G8F model with the new UV it won’t go back to Daz Studio because Daz Studio didn’t send it and Daz Studio won’t receive back what it didn’t send originally. (Digression: There is an exception, that is if the newly created mesh in zBrush was built on sent the G8F model and is a new zBrush subtool, GoZ will allow it to transfer back as if it were the G8F model.)

Therefore, I need a separate UV file to apply on the G8F model each time Daz Studio sends the model to zBrush so that new model being created from the mask in zBrush will fit G8F model’s pose or deformation. In other words, a G8F model has pose in Daz Studio which is equal to say deformation in zBrush. It comes over to zBrush via GoZ. The new model mesh I create in zBrush from the mask matches the pose and GoZ sends it back to Daz Studio as a perfect match.

I can’t do that perfect match with a saved model. I need a saved UV file, which I can reuse, and apply it the model each time it comes from Daz Studio from GoZ.

Another anticipated response I see being given to me is I can save the protect and attract painting schema on the model in UV Master. I can save and reload it for reuse. I agree with you, but each time you click the Unwrap you get a new UV which differs from the previous one. Different UVs means an alteration on the alpha mask once the mask is applied to the model. The shape of the mask may be consistent on the alpha, but once it’s applies to a different UV which the mask was not created from, then problems will arise. Therefore, I need one consistent UV file I can save once and reuse over and over again.

So, lets review the original question:

If I create a UV on a Genesis 8 Female model in zBrush (like UV master), how do I save that UV as its own file and reload back onto the same model for later use at a different time?

I appreciate your time and patience.

I've been struggling with my Daz install for a while and 90% of it is working. My Daz connect content is mostly working but I am having problem with the Genesis 2 base female and poses.

When trying to load the base file I receive could not open file /People/Genesis 2 Female/Genesis 2 Base Female.duf.

When trying to apply a G2F base pose I get the message would you like to save changes to the current scene before closing it.

If I browse the G2 Base Female folder it is installed in D:\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\People\Genesis 2 Female.

However the Daz Connect directory is set to D:\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Connect Library\

I am guessing that is the issue, but my other Daz Connect content works OK. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the genesis 2 female starter essentials but it has not impact.

I am reluctant to uninstall and reinstall Daz3d itself as most content is working.

I've attached screen shots showing the error, the install directory, and the content paths.

Best regards,

I was going to install the latest Studio version but all my purchased content is split between 2 other older drives because of how I had to salvage things. Can I just cut and paste all the content into the new folders on the SSD or do I have to go into install manager and reinstall everything item again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Within the DIM, I uninstalled the Essentials for G8 and then reinstalled, but I still get the same looking character. As the character is loading in the scene, about 1/2 way in the loading pauses for a minute or two. Is that normal? Thats why I am wondering if I have a broken file or something.
