How do I fix the armpit gap that appears in Genesis 3 Female models when posing?

Hi there! I've been dipping my toes back into the DAZ Studio waters and messing around with the Genesis 8 figures. After applying some poses to the Genesis 8 Female model (no morphs applied, just the base model), I noticed something that bothers me a bit:

There is a noticeable gap in the armpit area when applying certain poses. There's nothing especially wonky about this pose, either; it's just a basic standing pose. Here it is from behind:

I've been working mainly with the Genesis 3 models throughout my tinkering and experimentation, only recently looking into G8, so I don't know if this is a common thing or not. I've tried searching these forums, and across all of the Google realm, and I couldn't find any answers, nor anybody else coming across this same quirk.

Am I just doing something wrong? Missing a step in setting up this model?

Bloom and Spot Rendering

Hi there -

Part of my normal process when putting a scene together is to perform one single render along with numerous spot renders to fix things here and there (such as poke-through or switching collision sources - his hand touching her, then her hand touching him, etc) and compiling them all together in Photoshop to get one final product. It would take forever if I had to re-do the render in full each time I wanted to tweak only some small part of it, so spot rendering is great. However, I've recently begun to experiment with the bloom filter and have gotten some pretty awesome results with it. The problem is that I can't seem to use spot rendering with a strong bloom filter because the lighting ends up looking completely different in the spot render. Is there a way around this, or would I have to render the scene in full each time in order to only change a small piece? I know some people render lighting/shadows into multiple layers and merge them in post, but I'm not sure that's a solution here because I'm changing and moving actual obejects each time.

I've attached a couple renders to show as an example, the first being the biggest culprit. I had to process out the render in full probably five or six times, each with a different layer...fixing the poke-through on the jacket/shirt/pants, dust/sand geoshell on the bike, etc etc and it took forever because I was rendering the scene out at a fairly large size (3151 x 4096) each time (and my 1080TI system is no slouch). Because of the bloom filter, spot renders didn't work as they ended up with completely different lighting and couldn't be layered into the scene properly with Photoshop.

Hi, I thought I might share this since a lot of people still think Mac's cannot use their GPU to render and I wasted almost two days finding a workable solution to make it work.

To check if your GPU is enabled click on "Render Settings", choose "NVIDIA Iray" and then click on hardware. If you see only "CPU" there and you have a Mac [with an Nvidia card] then this tutorial is for you. The trick is to force the graphics card to use the Nvidia drivers, rather than the Apple drivers, which will make Daz3D recognize your graphics card.

I am running this on a iMac 27' late 2013 with the Geforce GTX 775M 2GB oin macOS High Sierra 10.13.3

1. If you ever installed CUDA it's time to remove all references of it. To do so navigate to those folders and delete all contents:

- /System/Library/Extensions/CUDA.kext
- /Library/Frameworks/CUDA.framework
- /Library/LaunchAgents/com.nvidia.CUDASoftwareUpdate.plist
- /Library/PreferencePanes/CUDA/Preferences.prefPane
- /System/Library/StartupItems/CUDA/
- /Developer/NVIDIA/CUDA-5.0
- /usr/local/cuda

After that do a finder search for "Cuda" and if there are any other references delete them.

2. Restart your computer and check in "System Preferences" if the CUDA icon disappeared. If yes, continue to step 3.

3. Install the Nvidia Webdriver, if you're running macOS 10.13.3 it can be found here:
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/130460/en-us
It is very important to check the name which should be "QUADRO & GEFORE MACOS DRIVER RELEASE"

4. After you installed the driver, do a restart. You should now see a Nvidia icon in your status bar right next to the Wifi icon.

5. Go to "System Preferences" and at the bottom you should see "NVIDIA Driver Manager". Click on it, and make sure that "Nvidia Web Driver" is selected in the first window. After that, navigate to "Updates" and check if there is a newer version. If yes, download it and restart again before moving to step 6.

6. Now it's time to install the right CUDA drivers, so we can use our GPU for rendering with Daz3D.
Go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-cuda-387.128-driver.html and download the driver. Install it and restart your computer manually after the installation is complete.

7. After the restart is complete, go to "System Preferences" again and you should see now two Nvidia related icons - one being the "Nvidia Driver Manager" and another called "CUDA". That means everything was successful and you can treat yourself a glass of scotch.

8. Open Daz3D, go to "Render Settings" --> "Hardware" and you should see now your graphics card under the CPU checkbox in "Photoreal Devices". Uncheck "CPU" and leave only your graphics card checked.

Congrats, you can now enjoy a much better rendering speed on your Mac ;)

Cheers,
George

FAQ:

Q: I have an older OS version, what should I do
A: Update to 10.13.3 manually, but do not update to Mojave yet, I tried and failed to make the drivers work on that.

Q: Will this work on every Mac?
A: As long as you have a Nvidia graphics card and it is listed on the following link, yes:
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus

To show this, I have attached example 1 which is the revolver I am using from the DAZ Shop, with the default material (before I messed with it).

Example 2 shows where I used a gold metal shader on the barrel, and then changed the base color on the grip from the Surfaces tab. Both methods seem to destroy the original gun details in the barrel and the grip. The metal barrel no longer has the round logo, and the rubber grip has lost the criss-cross design on the handle.

I can import the model for Michael 3, but I get an error about out of bounds and choosing either option to remove or keep limits creates the same end result.

The model does import, and I can apply the muscle texture map, but the T-Pose is not correct. The legs are slightly bent at the knees and hips and it seems that the head is slightly forward and back slightly curved as well.

Is there any way I can fix this to a regular more "flat" T-Pose for the Michael 3 figure?

Lastly, I realize there are new muscle maps for Gen 3/8 (was there a Gen 4-7?), but I'm not particularly interested in spending $22 for a texture that is a non essential upgrade for maps I've previously purchased, in some case multiple times. This is just to play around with some basic drawing references.

Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to export DAZ characters to multiple flatforms like iClone and Unreal Engine preserving their original features like hi-res and morphs.

I know how to export Genesis and Genesis 2 figures in fbx format through Reallusion's 3DXchange tutorials, add animations to them and import them back to DAZ or UE4.

But the problem of their method is that the figures exported in fbx format don't have the datas for bending morphs and high resolution(through subdivision I think) shape that DAZ figures originally have.

Attached are fbx and obj exported V7 figures in 3DXchange for the comparison between fbx export and obj export. The fbx format is restricted to its base resolution(34,000 faces) while obj format allows full resolution(136,000 faces).

As you can see, fbx formats only allow us to export the base resolution model(which doesn't look like it was in DAZ studio)

while obj format allows the high-poly model to preserve their full shape(but still lacks the bending morphs and most importantly, the bone rigs and animations are nowhere).

So my question is :

1. Is there any method to export DAZ figures in fbx format with all the datas including resolution and morphs?

2. If the answer to the 1st question is "impossible", is there any other format that I can use to export DAZ figures with their bending morphs and hi-res shape preserved?

3. If the answer to the 2nd question is "yes", but that format lacks the animation and bone datas to make the figure animate, is it possible for me to "personally" rig bones and animate the figure after exporting?

Thank you in advance for your answers. I think the fbx exported DAZ figures doesn't have enough quality we see in DAZ studio when exported to other flatforms. They are easy to apply to other flatforms with the help from 3DXchange and iClone, but only when it comes to low-res models. Higher resolution figures are also needed for people who need better details and results.

I just started having an really odd issue, I cannot get any figure at subd level 2 or more to render. It will render fine in iray interactive, but in a seperate render window I just get the checkerboard and no image. This just started as I have had no issues prior to yesterday with this even though I only have a 4 gig GPU.

I did some testing, loaded default GF8, tested interactive renderer with only the CPU and then with only the GPU, both worked great and as normal. The I tried a normal render in the seperate window with both GPU and CPU each and both times rendered fine. Then I load a scene with a warrior type GF8 at subd 2 and an 8K HDRI and it rendered fine in the iray interactive preview, but when i started a regular reender window I just got the checkerboard and the image never appeared

looking at the log I assumed their is an issue with my card since it says this

I purchased the Genesis 3 version before upgrading to Genesis 8 Wet Body Iray.

The Genesis 3 version worked perfectly fine, but the Genesis 8 Wet Body Iray puts strange looking metalic strips on the male figures. It only occurs on the male figures, on the head, shoulders and back of the upper arms. The female figures look perfectly fine.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I would really like to get this product to work because it's the only product that gives a really cool wet beaded water look to figures.

Hello,

Not sure if this was already posted here but I wanted to share a really annoying issue I just ran into.

I recently updated my drivers from 417.71 to the latest 418.91 and immediately noticed an issue when viewing IRAY through viewport or doing normal render. CPU slammed to 100% and entire pc chugged and ran slow. These are scenes that I have ran in the past without issue. I'm running a 1080ti.

I uninstalled and reinstalled driver 418.91 (clean Install), same issue. Uninstalled and went back to 417.71, everything went back to normal. CPU usage at a minimum. I tried going up one revision newer, driver to 418.81. CPU issue back again up at 100%!

From what I can see anything newer than 417.71 screws Daz up on my system.

Anyone else running into this?

I'm really devastated.

I have any amazing animation of a person holding a weapon, it looks fantastic. The only problem is that the height of the hands is much to high, I would need them to be lower.

Unfortunately the height of the hands comes from the collar, shoulder, etc. So I can't change that easily.

Can anybody think of a way to fix this for all keyframes, still leaving the animation / motion intact? The hands should still move, but just not that high.

Thank you for any input.

I have used shaders before, mostly on figures, eg. skin tone.

This product has me lost. I'm not even sure how to use it.

I tried to apply one of the shaders to a skull but nothing happens, on the viewport or in the render.

Is there a good reference on using shaders on objects and how to get them to work? Will these shaders only work on certain type of objects??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My old mouse gave up the ghost, so I got a new one. Nothing fancy, just a plug-and-play gaming mouse. But now, about every third time I click on something inside of Studio, the view unpredicatably whips around, or--if I'm selecting something in the scene tab, it will instantly select 25 things, instead of one. It's making it a bit difficult to use Studio.

It's definitely an issue with Studio too, because no other application on my PC has this issue with my mouse. Photoshop, Lightroom, Blender, Substance, everyone is fine.
