Hello,

I have been having a light issue that just started recently. There seems to be a really strong side light on my scenes, casting long shadows.

Any other lights added to the scene have little to know effect against this light source.

My scene has no lights, as you can see with the fox example Scene pane, and I even set the default Environment Map (HDR) to 'None' and yet the light issue persists. You can see the fox seems to be strongly illuminated from the left and casts a long shadow on the ground to the right.

The last time this happened, a few days ago, the only thing that fixed it was to reboot my computer and pull up the scene again. Then magically, the side light was gone, and additional added lights once again had the intended effects desired.

Has anyone experienced this issue? I've been using DAZ Studio for months and never ran into this problem before.

Well, I got a few of the 'demonic' models (Annika, Jezebeth, Jangshi, Tara HD) for some fantasy images I'd like to create....

However, rendering anything with two or more of those characters in the scene is turning into a bit of a nightmare. I only tried to have Jangshi and Jezebeth in the same image and I succeeded a couple of times (but it took hours in 3Delight and a few times I thought the computer might just permanently freeze or explode....got a dark screen, temporary freezing etc). Many other times, Daz studio crashed (got some shader incompatibility message once). Also tried them naked (I thought maybe the issue was with some shaders for the costumes. It goes without saying but yes, I also made sure I only used 3Delight shaders (I know some Iray shaders jsut go nuts if you try to render in 3Delight)

Worth noting that that happened even in scenes in which I had nothing except the two models (normally renders without any environments or special lights really don't even take long in 3Delight, which I use because I'd like to make a comic book in the future and Iray is just too time consuming).

Tara HD also gave me fits..... jsut her with almost nothing else took hours in 3Delight or just crashed as well....

So, what's the deal? Are HD charactersextremely demanding on computers? Is there some compatibility issues between those characters?

By the way, my computer is as follows:

Core i5 i5-8400 - 12 GB RAM - 1 TB HDD - Windows 10 Home 64-bit - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB -

Yeah, ok, I know it's not the very best computer on the market, but it's not bad either and it has an NVIDIA card that works great with very demanding games like Starcraft 2...if it just struggled with Iray I'd say, ok, maybe I just need a better one, but it shouldn't be this bad with 3Delight.

It's also way better than a computer I used a few years ago and that was fine with the Genesis 2 generation...... Are Genesis3 models a lot more demanding, memory-wise, than Genesis 2 models?

Any thoughts? I really like those characters but at the moment I really can't use them. If it's an issue with HD, fine, I'll avoid HD stuff in the future, but it all seems a bit weird. 3Delight is supposed to be fairly computer-friendly.

An update to what I wrote below. I am adding this for the benefit of anyone who might come across the same problem.

Apparently, uninstalling that specific update through the windows 10 settings section doesn't truly works. You have to remove it the old fashion way through the old control panel, the one we know and love from windows 7. Blocking the updates until a fix is found could be a wise choice. It's what I did and after that, it looks like my Undo function is working again. It cannot be just a coincidence: my SpaceNavigator controller knob started to misbehave as well after that update was installed. Everything went kaboom and now it's back to normal (knocking on wood).

If you can avoid KB4486553 for now, you'd better.

----------

Yesterday evening, an update under the name "2019-02- Cumulative update for .net Framework 3.5 and 4.7.2 for Windows 10 1809 fox x64 (KB4486553) installed itself on my win10 pro render machine.

Ever since, it's been impossible for me to use the "Undo" fuction properly either in DS4.10 or the beta 4.11.Has anyone noticed a similar behavior, or any idea of how to fix this? It's the only thing that changed between "it's working" and 'what the hell".

Addendum: I tried to uninstall the update and it didn't help.

An example of what happens:

Loading a G8F. Loading a G8M. Paint G8M in blue. Move G8M's forearm. Try to undo: G8M's arm remains where it is but he reverts to standard pink skin. The undo is erratic and either skips steps or does nothing.

But so far, nothing I've tried produces any effect except to turn the surface a pale grey. At $2 in today's "Platinum Grab Bag" sale they're hardly worth returning for a refund, and besides, they're not defective. I'd rather get some use out of them, if that's possible. This product has been around for a long time, so I'm hoping someone else has found a way to use it in Iray.

Is there a way to favorite your most used Smart Content items? Can I categorize the Spotlights as a "Favorite" so that it appears right in a Smart Content folder called Favorites?

I'd been looking at what appears to be a rather old set/add-on called Room Creator 2, then found that Collective3D's more recent stuff (including Iray materials) could handle much of what I was looking to do. So I invested in Collective3D's "Create a Room" and other packages. And I've been really pleased overall.

But I've finally been playing around with them a bit and discovered that I don't see any options for creating roofs. And while I know that's not the intended use—the focus seems to be on interiors—I was kind of hoping I could fudge it with what was in all of these kits.

Am I missing something? If not: is there anything out there to use to create full-on houses within Daz, or do I need to go learn another program? I'd considered Sketchup, but that is feeling way over my head every time I open it.

(Or, I guess, should I go back to looking at Room Creator and then adding on newer Iray materials?)

Creating sprites from 3d models - Questions about render settings

I'm going to be starting a project soon, whose artstyle I want to be in similar vein to games that use pre-rendered 3D models for their sprites. I've done a lot of pixel art over the years, so I know some of the core concepts involved in making a character 'stand out' -- lighting, posture and balance, that sort of thing. That said, 3D work (particulary, rendering) is an area where I'm super-fuzzy. My only concern right now is rendering a character over a blank background, so nothing too taxing. I have a few questions that require advice from someone with some technical expertise when it comes to what goes on 'beneath the hood' during the rendering.

Q: How do I deal with the transparenices that occur between the model and the environment?

I'm using the 3DLight renderer as of now. When I messed around with Iray, I found that I could set Pixel Filter to 0, and that dealt with the transparency around the edges. That also made the rest of the rendered model extremely noisy. If I render over a solid background environment, I don't have transparency issues, but I do have to worry about severe aliasing when I cut out the character images for postwork. Is there an advanced setting or technique that filters only the pixels within the model, but not with pixels that constitute the background?

Q: Is there a way to adjust properties like 'Saturation' in 3Delight?

Saturation is my #1 concern. I need to be able to make these sprites *extremely* saturated, and I'd rather have a method of doing this prior to the rendering stage, to keep the artstyle as consistent as possible. A quick search leads me to believe the only way to do this is through tone-mapping, and the tutorials that showed up all pertain to Iray. Currently I use 3Delight, because I'm still in the testing phase. I can render a character in 10-15 seconds, vs. the 4-6 minutes Iray takes, which is extra helpful for making lots and lots and lots of minor tweaks. The only solution I've used so far, is: locate the diffuse maps for all clothing items and skins, and creating alternate versions of them with HSV modifications. It's about as far from practical as you can get.

Render Scripts, Batch Rendering

This one's looming over the horizon. Right now, I'm only trying to nail down the aesthetic, but at some point I'll need a way to automate as much as I can. I'm using LineRender9000 as a means to create lighting profiles for the sprite drawn with different sources. I'm also using a toon cam that would operate with ambient lighting enabled. So in total, that would be:

- Line Blend Camera: Needs to render 4 versions of the scene (One with each of the four light sources enabled, the rest disabled)

- Toon Camerea: Needs to render 1 version of the scene with ambient lighting enabled, the rest of the lights disabled.

- Repeated for however many frames I would want in an animation.

This isn't so much a question of 'how to do it', but more just 'are there any tools avaialbe that already do this?' I'd be willing to invest a small amount of time in learning some scripting to do this, but an already available tool would be much preferable.

This is going to be a pretty long and tedious process, and I'm fully aware that I can't automate everything. There will still be touchup and postwork that needs to be done for every frame. Therefore, I can only commit to this style if I can get everything 'right'. This could be several weeks of messing around with render settings, lighting and camera positioning, so I'd appreciate whatever help could be offered.

ETA: While I was waiting, I think I figured it out. There's a little extra fidgeting to do in the pose controls, but pretty straight forward. Should have just tried before I asked. :p

Hello,

Does the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer work with DAZ Big Cat 2?

Or do I need to buy a separate fur product for the big cats.

From what I understand, the animal must have a Catalyzer version to add fur with the Catalyzer.

Most of the animals I've purchased have a Catalyzer and LAMH version of the figure, but the DAZ Big Cat 2 figures only have the figure itself, no versions.

I already own the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer, so I hate to have to purchase yet another product to get the fur on the cats ... but there is this:

Very Grainy Image on Iray Render

Having for the most part resisted Iray since it first appeared (though I've purchased 3 x Iray only scene products for experimenting), I really liked the recent Wisteria Tunnel product (see link below) so I bought it with the intention of finally doing a whole Iray render. I've used the default settings which come with the product, my own camera angles, and added one of my self-morphed G2 female characters, using the Iray material for her. The full image size is 4000 x 2500 pixels (though I first tried a much smaller size as I always do on setting a new scene). The first and all later renders took a few seconds over 2 hours, but the first ended up very grainy. I had to very slightly alter the angle on the character to get both feet flat, then did a second render which for no known reason was slightly less grainy. I then checked the Forum and found one guy say that using the Mitchell filter lessened graininess, so I chose that and did a third render, but it was only as clear/unclear as the second render with the Gaussian filter. I next altered the character's outfit and did a fourth render, again using the Mitchell filter, but bizarrely it came out even granier than the previous. I've attached a cropped portion of the image which is very grainy. So, what do I need to faff around with to get rid of the graininess? On other discussions I've read that there's more graininess on a larger image, but I need the size I'm rendering as I design for print. I also read that lengthening the time of render can improve the final image, but as I've never had to do that in over 5 years using 3DL I didn't even know render time could be increased. So how is that accomplished with Iray?

So two basic questions:
1: How can I get a non-grainy render?
2: How do I increase render time?

I have skull earrings(both separate Left & Right) on a character that I positioned sphere primitives into the eyesockets for a glowing-eyes effect. The earrings consist of a Wire and Earring Charm(has Bend, Twist, Side-Side parameters). When I use any of the movement parameters, I want the spheres to move appropriately with the earring charms. How do I accomplish this? By the way, the product I'm using is Crux AXcessorize for G3 from Renderosity. I've included a screenshot of a spot render. I had to adjust the scale on one of them to get rid of the asymmetry, so hopefully this won't have any affect on doing this.

Hi, i'm havin an issue where with every character i've tried so far (G3M, G8M and variants). The issue is that by default without any custom textures or changes every character gets this "stretchy" look everywhere but in the face, which is quite noticeable when using complex textures like the one in the attachment. Am i doing something wrong or this is the default behaviour? Any way to fix this issue?

I'm stuck. I've tried everything from cleaning my Cdrive to clearing the drive it's installed to, to turning off my anti-virus to reinstalling it to avoiding things that crash it, but nothing works, Daz studio crashes all the time, mostly from reading assets and me daring to have more than one figure or adding an environment and a figure. Basically the only thing I can do with Daz studio, is create a character(with only the resources that don't crash the program[which is very limited]) and then posing them, then just to be able to render a low quality image because if I want to render HD it will almost complete but then crash.
I also wanted to say when I run daz sometimes it makes my computer fan go into overdrive even when the program crashes and has closed out for an hour it somehow has kept my computer running hot, I checked task manager, daz is off, but my computer only does this as soon as I open daz.
half the times I open the scene I was working on and the textures are out of wack, like they stuck in "smooth shaded" or that the figure's texture is an eye or teeth texture.
My question is, is there an older version of Daz studio I can download(if so where) and maybe that will solve the problem. Alternatively, is there another program I'm allowed to use that is able to use Daz files such as the morphs, poses, environments and textures? The only other thing I can do is wait a year and a half to get a new PC...and perhaps it will still crash there too.
Can somebody make a patch or something that I can activate a "force not crash" or something because I think it's crashing on very insignifigant non-harmful-to-my-computer things.
I'm losing my patience with it, I just want to make a simple series of images.
