In the course of lots of experimentation, I've ended up giving various assets I've made or changed a range of names / name variants / misspellings which have all been faithfully written into my Daz Library/Data/ files.

I'd like to tidy all this up, in some cases completely renaming the "author" name or the "asset" name.

I know from bitter experience I can't just rename or move stuff, or else scenes / subscenes will be broken and report "missing files" upon opening.

So, questions ...

1. Is there an easy way or a straighforward workflow to jump into existing, but poorly/ wrongly/changewanted names for assets and rename them so that when the scene reopens it uses the tidied names AND in the data file, the assets are written in with the tidied author and asset names?

2. Is there an easy way to find all the geometry references for an asset so I can see where it is using /data/ files?

3. If I do cause a break and an opening scene reports missing files, is there any way to re-import the damaged asset from its new named home? [by way of example, if texture files on surfaces get renamed, there is a dialogue on scene opening that allows you to re-specify the texture file location of textures that can no longer be found].

As always, thanks in advance for any hints and help. Lx

OK, I guess the main problem is my huge runtime but maybe anybody has ideas to improve things:

1) Morph dials are not responsive

I used to dial morphs in and out quickly. Now recently those dials became quite unresponsive. If I drag them, the change does only occur after a little delay which makes manual dialing more or less a mess. As I workaround I started to enter values instead but that is a hit and miss. So any ideas to improve dialing behaviour would be great.

2) Loading a character takes ages

Loading a scene or a plain vanilla G8F or a G8F-based character takes several minutes. This might be due to my huge library. I do own more than 10.000 items from the DAZ store (crazy, I know). So all of that stuff resides on an external drive in my DIM runtime. On that disc a second runtime holds all stuff I purchased elsewhere (Rendo etc.) plus Free Stuff. Probably I do have to start uninstalling stuff I don't use but it would be great whether there are other ideas. Maybe merging the runtimes might help? Or opting for an SSD instead of a hard drive. Although my runtime does probable exend usual/affordable SSD sizes by far.

If it matters: I run DAZ studio 4.12 on a MacBook Pro (Mojave).

Any heads up is greatly appreciated.

I know that you can configure your settings to decrease the rendering time yet it still takes way too long for me. With the same sort of rig I can for an example play games that look very decent. What makes the sort of rendering I do with Daz and 3 props with no added extra lights so much different than my PC rendering a game. Is it the Iray? Does other games (non RTX) just do fake lightning? I just really don't understand.

Like the title says, saving has become incredibly slow since I updated to DS 4.12.

Before I updated DS, a scene would save virtually instantaneously. There wasn't a noticable delay even if the scene was complex and was absolutely littered with trees, bushes, objects and people.

But now...
Three characters, with no objects and no scenery, before I've even add any clothes to the characters, and it takes over 20 seconds to save the file.

There's no need to discuss my woefully underpowered Mac, it's clearly not meant for rendering complicated scenes, but this problem isn't rendering anyway. This is just saving a basic scene and it's appeared immediately after I've updated to DS 4.12.

I've read a few old threads about slow saving and one of the commonly asked questions is "How big are the files?"

My old scenes, from before I updated, are between a 105 KB and a few MB for a more complicated scene.

My newest scenes, since I updated, are around 85MB, for a scene with 3 characters, literally no objects or no scenery and no clothes.

What's going on?

I'm wondering if there is way to set up a layout so that I can have easy one-click access to different folders in my content library. I don't use Smart Content, I never understood it, maybe I should learn how to get this done. But what I have now is a custom layout with Actvities along the top menu such as "Character", "Hair", "Clothes," etc. Within each of those is the same thing: A viewport, and adjacent to that the Scene, Parameters, and Content Library tabs. This way after I load in a character I can switch to the "Hair" view and the Content Library is wherever I last left it (i.e., Genesis 8 Male > Hair).

This is hugely inefficient and taxes my system, so is there a way to have your Content Library go directly to a folder with one click? Thanks for any feedback in advance, cheers

When working on big scenes (like 300MB scene files for timeline animation work), I have noticed a huge speed increase by switching my content drive from SATA to NVMe. Not only does the scene load faster, working in the viewport also seems to have a speed increase as well. I am not sure why, but I suspect it has something to do with mesh smoothing and Daz3D referring to a bunch of little files for that information to then calculate. On SATA the lag was very annoying. On the NVMe, there was no discernible lag, though the mesh smoothing progress bar does appear. I saw no real difference in rendering, though maybe iRays initial calculations are sped up by the NVMes?

Anyway, this got me thinking, what if I got 2 NVMe drives and put them in RAID 0. Would that increase my workflow speed? Or, maybe NVMe is overkill. Maybe just a regular SSD would be just as fast as an NVMe drive?

Right now I am running an overclocked I9 9900K at 4.7 and working with a 360mm AIO cooler. So far I haven't broken past 71C even at 100% usage. I am sort of seeing how much I can get out of this since I've just upgraded my cooling as of today.

My question is this - When I see "CPU CODE GENERATED 0.052s", sometimes that image renders directly after that, other times it just slams to a halt. I don't mean the program crashes, simply that the clock keeps ticking. Is this an indicator that the image is not going to render?

Other times (Smaller projects with scene optimizer) it will work just fine. My CPU and GPU function perfectly, I am just wondering if I demanded too large a render - does this mean it won't work?

Has been working fine for several months.

Yesterday that hard drive failed and I can't access anything on it.

I got a replacement drive and installed it. So far so good

However when I go to my account and attempt to download and install my content, nothing happens. It doesn't install anywhere.

I choose the download and install, DIM comes up and then it asks if I want to keep the old filter. If I say yes it wants to know where it is and I assume it is on the bad drive but I don't know

If I choose no, nothing happens. If I look at installed tab it says the item is installed but studio is not able to access it

Studio seems to think it is already installed so nothing happens. Obviously Studio can't access it because it's not there.

I had purchased some items yesterday. When I install them they do show up and I can open the ones that don't require a previous product.

How do I get the database reset so I can install my content?

I have resigned myself to take hours or even days to install everything but I can't find a way to get it to start.
