So, to avoid making an ass out of some guy named Umption, I go to look it up. Google, the forums, the documentation, so far I've found nothing that actually says "A 'zero prop' is _____."

So... Feel free to point and laugh and tell me I'm - well, choose your epithet - but if you could either tell me, or, better, tell me where I should have looked it up, or even both... I'd very much appreciate it. :(

I don't like the 3Delight result and I'm rendering with IRAY

If I change the distant light position and/or its orientation the result is always the same (see the attached image), all pieces are right (helmet, ...), but the "plackard" is burned.

Could I have a default light that deactivate my distant light ?

How con I resolve this issue ?

Hi all

So I have some third party anatomical elements for G8M from over at Renderotica, and I also just bought this body hair item: https://www.daz3d.com/jepes-bodyhair-project-78

The problem is, both use shells and when they overlap, they don't work. If the body hair covers the "elements" then they just render white. Otherwise, the base of the "elements" just goes over top of the hair to match the skin, leaving an awkward "shaved" spot on the groin.

Anyone know how I can make the two shells play nice together?

recently I got the HD Add-on for Teen Jane 8, but there seems to be something weird going on with her toes. Looks like she has a piece of glass in her toes of the right foot. Looks painful. (Not to be seen in the viewport only in final renders).

This happens on simple loading in Teen Jane 8 HD right out of the box. I know I can avoid this by lowering the subD level to 3 and below or reduce the HD Details via dials, but why should I pay for the HD Add-on then?

So please let me know if this is going to be fixed anytime soon. Thank you.

I noticed with Daz 4.10 and 4.11, it was possible to render multiple scenes if you attribute each scene to its own video card (I have 4 video cards in my box). Everything seems to work fine, I'm currently simultaneously rendering 4 different image sequences. Are there any tips to speeding up this process? Should OptiX be enabled?

Also, I am using a Threadripper processor, is this making this go smoothly? Would I have the same luck with a high end Intel processor, or do the multiple cores on Threadrippers somehow get used if you have multiple instances of Daz Studio open at one time?

Is it true you can't have multiple instances of Daz 4.12 open at once?

So I've been researching these forums for a long time, and one thing I keep reading is that if you have an 8GB card like I do (GTX 1070), a scene that is around 18GB won't fit into the video card's memory, and therefore it will be rendered by the CPU.

My experience has reflected this, until I turned on all the "Post Denoiser" options in Iray.

Once the render gets to the iteration I specify in "Post Denoiser Start Iteration" (50), the whole scene becomes less grainy and, above all, the GPU is now showing 98% activity.

The screenshot below was taken right when the GPU activity spiked and the Denoiser appears to have kicked in.

Render times were also cut from around 30 minutes down to 10 minutes.

My question is, how is the GPU getting involved when the scene is larger than 8gb? And why only when I enable the Denoiser in render settings?

I'm still a daz newbie, though I've been along pretty well so far, so apologies if I don't understand your answers right away :)

I have a G8 model - Gail https://www.daz3d.com/gail-for-genesis-8-female
and this dforce outfit - https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-vernea-fae-outfit-for-genesis-8-females

Now, what I did was apply the outfit - mainly the skirt - to Gail and use simulaion to adapt to the pose. The proble here is that she has her left leg up and it clips through the back of the skirt. I've been searching online and read a bit about smoothing and colision and such but I'm still not sure how they work nor if they fit this issue.
Also, as you can see from the pics, the bustle of the skirt - which is a separate item - also clips through the skirt. In this case using Simulation only made it worse...

Any help is really appreciated! Thank you in advance! :)

I have created a simple figure standing with lighting using only the Sky and Sun with the time of day set and the Y axis of the sky dome rotated to where I need it. Saving the Daz scene file did not save the Dome Orientation Y Axis manipulation. I tested this to recreate the save failure and indeed repeatedly the Y axis dome rotation did not save. The scene file would open with the Y axis rotation set to another position. Now, turning ON Draw Dome and saving with the Draw Dome ON and visible seems to have corrected this save issue, so it appears one needs to save the file with Draw Dome turned ON? This was my experience and I'm curious if others can repeat this save failure.

I will likely start uninstalling content I've recently installed to see if I can isolate a recent addition that might be the cause. My dread is that I've been mixing installs between here and the other site, so it's not going to be a fun bit of troubleshooting.

Thanks!

I'm having issues with third party morphs such as hand poses, body controls, etc. These don't seem to show as keyframes on the timeline. So even if I delete all keyframes, that particular frame will still do whatever the morph is set to do on that frame. Selecting all Types such as Other (O) and Hidden (H) doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas? This issue really makes animations a lot harder than it should be.

Trying to recall how to troubleshoot an Iray render that keeps crashing (and taking the whole system with it -- Win10 enters recovery mode when it reboots).

So, where do I find the logs, and what else should I try? Deleting the background prop? Simpler settings? Smaller render size?

FYI, This is a simple scene: 2 clothed figures holding guns and a single background prop. 3Delight renders fine. It's just Iray that causes the crash.

Hey guys, I'm running a GTX 970 4 GB, with the latest drivers from Nvidia, and my CPU is an Intel i5-7600k. Since I started using Daz, when I render, my computer essentially locks up, because its using 100% of my CPU, instead of using the GPU. This has been for at least a year, and that means a large number of different Nvidia driver versions. I just today realized that In the advanced settings for the Iray renderer, you can turn off the CPU as a rendering option- but that did absolutely nothing- the render still uses only my CPU, and my graphics card remains idle.

This isn't acceptable, and as far as I know, its always done this, even with my previous graphics cards. I'm running Daz Studio 4.11.

This is the history for my current render, which is only using the CPU:

Rendering in NVIDIA Iray

Compiling Shaders - 0/1

Rendering image

Rendering...

Iray VERBOSE - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.2 IRAY rend progr: CUDA device 0 (GeForce GTX 970): Processing scene...

Iray VERBOSE - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.3 IRAY rend stat : Geometry memory consumption: 115.942 MiB (device 0), 0 B (host)

Iray VERBOSE - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.2 IRAY rend progr: CPU: Processing scene...

Iray VERBOSE - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.4 IRAY rend stat : Native CPU code generated in 1.73s

Can someone help me fix this?

EDIT: In task manager, I can see that Daz is using almost all of my GPU memory, despite also using 100% of my CPU. I tried switching my primary and auxilary viewports to wireframe bounding box, to try and reduce the base amount of memory Daz uses, but it doesn't seem to work. I also tried turning OptiX off and on, that hasn't helped either. I'm assuming that my graphics card just doesn't have enough memory to run this render that I want to do.

I'm looking at upgrading to a Nvidia GTX 1660Ti 6 GB this coming week, hopefully that fixes the issue.

Create a second copy of Daz Studio?

Is there a way to create a second copy (install) of Daz3D, to act as an actual second copy?

Eg, I want a good "clean" install, with only the minimal installed files, so nothing that is installed on my prior version will mess with that clean version. Ultimately, I will only be manually installing only the single things I "need", once I find them, from my other copy of Daz3D.

I have the beta version, but I have that reserved as a duplicate for the version that I have now, which is getting horribly bogged-down by all of these items I have laboriously installed over the years. Things which can't easily be "uninstalled", without breaking other things along the way. It would be much easier to locate the components of the installed items, and just duplicate them to the "clean Daz", which I can then scrub clean, or isolate, as needed, when I no longer need THOSE previously installed items.

I don't have any plugins to worry about, so that makes things sort-of less complicated.

However, Daz will still try to use the same CMS system, which is where I think I need the isolation for this "clean copy". Since none of the files in the CMS will be in any of the folders that the clean version will be using.

I'm open to any suggestions, no matter how illogical or hackish they may seem. I am just at a loss for how to do it, or fake it... (Avoiding the whole "get another computer", or "create a virtual OS", as those are not options available to me. I do have a multi-boot system, but there is no real way to move things back and forth, and easily "use them", without constantly rebooting. I have my other copy of Daz on that OS, which is actually my sibblings copy of Daz.)

Issue with importing .obj files from Hexagon to DAZ Studio

A while back, I tried creating a 3D letter sign in Hexagon and saved it in .obj format, like this:

But when I imported it to DAZ Studio, I ended up seeing some kind of film across the front and back of most of the letters (which remained visible when I tried to render the letters), like this:

What can I do to prevent the film from appearing on the letters (like in the example above) so they can appear clearly when I import from Hexagon to DAZ Studio?
