Does this happens only to me, or is there a problem with Gayll Hair? When trying to change the materials, DAZ always gives me an error message saying it cannot find a file with something like facialhair in the name. Coding error?

I am in the middle of a long render, so I cannot check precisely the file name nor the error message.

I have been told by someone that knows a good bit about this stuff that the Samsung 970 pro is the drive to go for, but I looked into it just a bit, and it looks like the read/write on that for small files is pretty terrible. Ideally I'd like to get a drive that has equivalent performance with both big and small files. I think I'd rather have a drive that can read/write small or large files at 1500 MB/s, than to have a drive that can read/write large files at 2000-2200 MB/s, but then dips down to 600-700 MB/s on small files.

I'm not a pro in this game yet, and that's why I'm asking for advice, but it just seems to me from a logical perspective that if the drive can do 2-3X the speed of traditional SSD with small or large files; that would make everything flow well, more cosistently.

For what it's worth, I use my PC for content creation only. I have an Xbox one with over 300 games on it, so I don't see any sense in wasting precious render time on my PC just to game on it.

I know someone will say "Go and pose them with your hands" but this way you will never make the exact pose, it will always be different. There must be some machine way to do that.

the above linked Sauske model's head is what I'm looking for but since it's tied to the Gen 8 female my morphing options are limited to skinny/androgenous pretty boys and the morphing only highlights thay it's a female model more. So I wanted to ask, is there a trick in Daz, or a for sale morph/program on the Daz store that will let me use Gen 8 Female heads with Gen 8 males body? I tried doing it with "filter all relevant items" off but no dice. Many thanks!

I have installed Genesis 8 Female head morphs, and LUXE fibermesh brows and lashes, and after playing with my G8F's eye shaping I've find its been stetching the fibermesh lashes strangely. If I change their fitting to "none" it resolves the issue, but then they aren't sitting correctly on my model and it's difficult to correct for that. I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot this but am struggling to find documentation that might help. I've attached screenshots below.

Does anyone know how to resolve the issue? I don't want to have to leave my G8F with just the default eye shape, I'm trying to make unique looking characters for concept works.

Hello, I hope someone would have a solution to my distored character result.

I am trying to render in Daz an animation I created in Maya.

The workflow I am currently using is:

1. Create a character in Daz and send in to Maya with 'Daz 2 Maya' script.

2. Animate in Maya, bake joints with 'Segment Scale Compensate' unchecked and send to Motion Builder

3. In Motion Builder, select the the branches and save selection

4. In Daz, I import the selection from step 3.

The result I am getting is: A distorted character with my animation.

I was wondering if someone knows how to get my original character back? I have a suspicion that the distortion is caused when baking the joints in Maya, however without baking the joints I cant get the animation out of Maya.

Note: The reason I am adding the Motion Builder step is because if I export the animation from Maya directly to Daz as an FBX it does not work.

I am using: Daz 4.12, Maya 2017 Motion building 2017. (although I tried using 2019 and I'm getting the same results)

I added photos to show every step in the way.

Thank you!

So I'm trying to make a realistic working zipper for the shirt on this outfit that I'm working on. I've looked into some videos on how to do it. Sadly 98% of the videos are for blender.. I worked out that the curve warp tool could be used. I aligned the curve with the left side of the zipper, but when I select the curve and the zipper, and hit curve warp tool, it teleports the zipper off to the side while the curve stays in place (see second picture). I haven't yet attached the zipper to the Ncloth shirt yet, but I was thinking of getting it functional, then attatching it. But this is my first attempt at this, so if anyone has any suggestions, or better ways of doing this, I'd like to hear it.

PS: I prefer not to have to take this over to blender, and as such, would prefer answers that aren't "do it in blender". Mostly the reason for this is that swapping files between softwares is rarely seamless, and I'd rather minimize potential variables that could screw up my project. Besides, I'm moreso trying to learn Maya fully, since it is more widely used in professional applications.

Thx.

Is there a functioning workflow between these two software when it comes to animations? I currently use MD to create morphs for my Daz clothes assets and load them into Daz as morphs. I'm now trying to animate a scene with a figure that's already clothed, export it into Marvelous Designer to simulate the clothing better, then importing back into Daz.

I've found this thread from 2015 describing using an animMorph script to morphload every frame of the animation from MD as an obj back to Daz. This seems very clunky and is not giving me great results. Has anyone found another workflow?

I'd love to use dForce but I find it slow and exploding way too often so would much rather be able to do this within MD.

Thank you

Edit:

The animMorph method would work for me if I was able to also somehow make the "Create Control Property" and "Reverse Deformations" become default as Yes instead of No. Having to manually go through 200 morphs and change each of those selections from No to Yes is a tedious effort. Any ideas of how I can make this happen or is it only if I learn to write a custom script?

Edit2: The animMorph route works if you export the animation in mdd format to Marvelous Designer and inverse the Z axis on import. Leaving "Create Control Property" and "Reverse Deformations" on No also works as long as you don't fit the original piece of clothing to your character before exporting to MD.

GPU usage during a render

Hello all!

I'm very new to the rendering scene, not even a week in. I have what is going to be a stupid question i think for you guys (I'm sorry). My specs are below for reference, I've done some testing with a few renders now, some larger and some smaller. At first my GPU wasn't running during a render at all, caused some what should of been easier renders to take hours i presume. I updated my drivers through nvidia website directly and during the lower end renders i've seen my gpu usage make effort again so i think that problem is solved!

Question time..

When rendering, inspecting both the task manager AND GPU-z, a small render will show on task managers GPU % usually saying it's using between 1-15%. In GPU-Z everything cranks up in glorified fashion whether the render is small or large. When rendering a much bigger scene the GPU % is always at 0%, GPU-z again shows everything running like normal. (Screenshot of this below) My question is, i notice at all times the VRAM on the GPU is always maxed out in GPU-z, so no question DS is making use of it. Why does the GPU% In task manager not show anything during the bigger renders though? Does the card not use anything other than VRAM if the scene is too large of a render? Could someone explain that just a little for me? I'm more just curious on how this all works as a whole and learn the program.

I've done render tests with just the GPU, GPU + CPU, GPU with Optix and GPU + CPU with optix and found that it renders quicker with everything turned ON. In case anyone is curious. My specs:

i7-7700k

Gtx 1070

32 GB Ram

Windows 10

I made a little scene for my friend to use in her art and renders, but I don't know how to get it to her, how to package some kind of .zip or .rar folder that has all of the info for the wall and the furniture and the pictures, the geometries and textures and shaders and all that, so she can actually open and read and use the file in her DAZStudio. I tried looking online for tutorials, but I don't even know how to word this to get the right answer, so I didn't find anything.

How would I save and compress the scene to get the files over to her?

Iray transparency

This is making me mad, I'm not an expert at anything but I don't mind playing and that normally gets me through, but this one seems to have me licked.

it took me ages to make a png file with transparency and no hiden background layer & 8 Bit, but finally I mastered it see first pic below.

So imagine my disappointment when I rendered it with iray and the defuse colour (white in this case) still filled the transparent part behind (next Picture).

I've look through all advice forums and the best people seem to come up with is use Opacity, which obviously isn't what I need as that will just make in this case the logo transparent.

I want to make multi-layered clothing in zbrush for example & have things like netting as a top layer, logo's below that and so on, so I really need to make this work.

Any Ideas?

4.12

Mac (Mojave)

It doesn't matter what I pick or with what character. This hair refuses to load.

Is there a trick someone knows?

I got this during the Black Friday sale.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Edit: I got this to load by going through the poser format folder instead of Daz. It worked well enough for what I'm doing but still not right. Does anyone know how to debug scripts that can help me do that or possible point me at a tutorial?

As the title suggests, I was unable to install [PostgreSQL CMS] this, either through DIM or manual installation. I also had trouble installing Daz Studio, but was able to fix it through one of the fixes involving killing a process in the task manager. I also had trouble installing Hexagon, having to install it manually Maybe this is a sign that something is wrong with my DIM in general. I have no firewall and no virus protection
