For the skin indentation, I loaded a G3 figure and a primitive sphere from the create tab. I made a 30-frame animation sequence in which the sphere moves into the figure's body, exactly like the presenter did. Still it tells me there is nothing to simulate.

Okay, so maybe the title isn't the best choice of words, but it is descriptive of what I'm trying to find a way to fix.

I'm trying to create an angel. (Well, three angels, but I'll get to that in a minute.) I've been trying to do it with a G8 female character, using Feathered Wings For All and Angel Glam Hair. I'm on an iMac with a woefully inadequate (and not upgradeable) nVidia card, and while it had done well with some pretty big scenes, for some reason this combination is slowing it to a crawl.

I ran Scene Optimizer on the wings and hair, set to 8, but it is still shuddering and stuttering when I try to do anything with the character.

Are there any tricks or gimmicks or workarounds I can do with either the hair or the wings (or both) that would reduce the load on my resources? I saw someone, somewhere, mention something about reducing translucency on hair that can help, but I can't find that now.

Are there any low-res wings that might work, or maybe good but lower resolution hair? I'm considering even falling back to "a lesser Genesis" if that might help the cause.

As it stands, the thought of having three such characters in a scene together, and animating them, has become ridiculous, but that's my assignment. Any help, tips, or ideas would be gratefully, nay, prayerfully, received.

solution: you can't. you have to save your custom morphs as a morph asset, which makes them universal to all G8F. File->Save As->Support Asset->Morph Asset, then select your Zbrush custom morphs. This makes the morphs universal to all G8F, so you may need to organize your zbrush morph structure, by editing the controllers path, to something like this:

Zbrush
- Char1-Vicky
- - vicky_customMorph1
- Char2-Paul
- - paul_customMorph1

Sometimes you'll just make a custom zbrush morph unique to a scene, in which it gets saved in the scene file and you don't save it as a morph asset, unless of course the G8F breaks for some reason and you need to load a new one. In my case, my G8F's limits are all broken somehow and I don't know how to restore it, so I was forced to use a fresh G8F which forced me into this situation.

How do I transfer custom morphs from one G8F to another G8F?

I don't want the morphs to become permanent, where they become available to every G8F character. I just need to transfer custom made morphs from one G8F to another. How can I do this?

Ok, maybe a silly question, but I put the Bardot sandles on a G8 figure, and I'd like to slightly slip just one of them off the foot. But I can't seem to do it. I've tried unparenting them, and parenting them to a null, but Daz still won't let me move them. I can't seem to select an individual shoe, and even in my scene tab they are just listed as "Bardot Sandles", without a left or right option.

ETA: This issue appears with every pair of shoes I've tried. Even if I load the shoes into the scene without fitting them to a figure, there doesn't appear to be a way to manipulate individual shoes.

I am looking for a shader that will render the surface as an "ALPHA", not an "Opacity level".

Eg, I want it to be rendered "invisible", not rendering it transparent, which would reveal what is behind it.

Specifically, I need this for they eyes, so I can render the model with the eyes cut-out. This is going to be for a sprite-set, which has the eye-balls rendered alone, placed on a layer behind the model.

Unfortunately, the only way to do this now, is to delete all the geometry in the eye-socket and the back of the head. However, that messes with the rendering, as light now enters inside of the head. (SSS glow, and other things.)

Thus, my need for a material that simply tells IRAY to not-render the surface, so it simply renders it as an alpha there. Like how it does in canvases. (Which, unfortunately, in Daz, you can't select specific parts of the model to NOT render. It is either the whole model, or nothing.)

I can see other practical uses for this shader, so please, if one exists or someone knows how to make one, or hack a bad shader so it has that effect on a specific material, by accident... Please, let me know where to get it.

edit: I manged to get it working. When GOZ goes back into DAZ, you need to select update existing model option and choose the appropriate figure that you sent into Zbrush, then you can set a morph like usual. The reason this happens is because TPosemesh must change some internal names of the obj's in Zbrush, even if you rename them to what GOZ set on export.

I'm trying to sculpt two sub tools in Zbrush, so I need to use Transpose Master, TPoseMesh. When I do TPoseMesh, then restore it to it's original parts via TPose|SubT, it seems to break the GOZ and DAZ sees it as a new object.

Has anyone gotten TPoseMesh to work so it doesn't break DAZ/GoZ connection?

UPDATE Mar 5, 2020 - DAZ Studio 4.12.0.86 / Zbrush 2019.1.2

After vigorous troubleshooting, I found a work around to the problem. Here is how you ensure GOZ always works with DAZ. Brace yourself.

1. Open Zbrush first. Trust me.
2. Click the cylinder subtool and draw it out, then click edit. Trust me.
3. Now click GOZ. This will cause Zbrush to open DAZ Studio, which means Zbrush now has a tried and true link with that DAZ Studio session. Note: If this doesn't work, click GOZ button again and again until it opens a new session of DAZ Studio. If it still doesn't open DAZ, close Zbrush and reopen it, then try again. Important: Once Zbrush can open DAZ, then you'll know for sure the GOZ bridge will work. This action is what fixes the problem and ensures 100% GOZ reliability.
4. In the newly opened DAZ Studio, load your scene and select the figure or prop you want to work in in Zbrush, then do File-> Send to Zbrush
5. Do your work in Zbrush.
6. Now, when you click GOZ in Zbrush, because it already established a clear link with DAZ by literally opening up the application, it ensures GOZ works EVERY TIME.

So all you have to do to solve this problem is use Zbrush to open DAZ Studio. *facepalm* .. This work around will probably work for other 3d applications too, not just daz.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Original stated problem (old)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Problem: Goz only works half the time.

DAZ Studio 4.12.0.86
Zbrush 2019.1.2

I have to keep restarting DAZ and testing GOZ until it works before doing my work. Very annoying.

In Zbrush, when you click GOZ, in which DAZ Studio doesn't show the GOZ import screen, this is what you do. Close DAZ Studio (trust me) and keep Zbrush open with the sub tool you were working on. Once DAZ Studio closes, go into Zbrush and click GOZ again, that will open up a new session of DAZ Studio. In that new session of DAZ Studio, load the scene file you had earlier. Now, in Zbrush, click GOZ again. This time it has a clear connection with this new DAZ Studio sesssion, and you'll get the GOZ import screen, then just choose Update an existing project, and choose the model you were working on.

1. In DAZ, I select Genesis 8 Female.
2. I click File-> Send to Zbrush with export deformations checked and export at current resolution unchecked.
3. Zbrush automatically opens and receives Genesis 8 Female and everything fitted and parented to her (ANNOYING).
4. I sculpt her geometry with the standard brush and click GOZ. Here is where the problem is. Zbrush will begin shuffling through all of Genesis 8 Female's fitted items, then just stops and ends by showing a scroll cursor in Zbrush.

When this problem happens, I have to save, close DAZ and Zbrush, then re-open DAZ and attempt to GOZ again, and just pray it works.

I tried reinstalling GOZ. I made sure Zbrush GOZ has a path set to DAZStudio64. I tried the clear cache files under GOZ in zbrush. The problem won't go away sadly. I need to figure out a solution to this asap.

edit: it is VITAL that I fix this problem. I will be watching this thread over the next few months carefully, hoping for a solution. If I find one, I'll update this post. This is a catastrophic problem.

When I position the models in the Viewport and change rendering from 'Shaed Texture' to 'NVDIA Iray', only a narrow rectangle is actually rendered. The area outside of this rectangle shows the floor grid with the unshaded parts of the model in white.

In the Aux Viewport, the models show with a bounded rectangle labeled 700 : 910, which presumably is the width/height dimensions of the bounding rectangle.

I am trying to setup the animation timeline so I can essentially save characters with various morphs, instead of having to save them all as individual files, for easy modification and rendering. (As well as posing).

However, when I change ANY morph, it applies to the whole chain of keys, as if there is no keys, and I can clearly see various morph keys in each frame. (They are all selected. I want EVERYTHING to change, in EVERY key-frame I save, not EVERY key-frame that exists, which isn't selected.)

Since morphs ALSO control things like muscle-flex, this is sort of an important thing to have. So when you bend an arm, the muscles can flex correctly, instead of looking like a maniquin doll with nothing more than a soft skin joint.

I tried changing every value for creating keys, but everything is still just altering every keyframe, with ANY morph change.

EG, Setting "Key frames", that should be saving ALL values, and "Locking them", is basicly not doing what it should be doing. Thus the term, Key-frame. To record ALL keys and LOCK them from being altered.
