      <description><![CDATA[<p>So here we go. Iray Decals, like a number of things, are way less hard than folks imagine.</p>

<p>First, make a figure (or whatever) and... add a decal. Note that decals only show up in NVIDIA viewport mode, and also they cannot have displacement (well, you can put displacement, it just doesn&#39;t do anything)</p>

<p>I like to set the decal to some bright obvious color, like green, so I can place it as desired.</p>

<p>Next, move it to the middle of the figure and increase scale so it covers the entire figure.</p>

<p>You&#39;ll notice it only covers the front. There&#39;s a parameter for that! You can have the decal projecting from the front, back, or both front and back. Also, front and back are different material zones. I don&#39;t usually do much with that, but you do want &#39;front and back&#39; to cover the entire thing.</p>

<p>Now go into surfaces and give it a shader of your choosing. By default, the projection type is Planar. What this means is that essentially the texture map is &#39;projected&#39; toward the object. Whatever pixel is on your shader that hits part of the figure, that&#39;s what it&#39;s colored by. You can think of planar projection like a spotlight with a gel. Whatever image is on the gel is projected onto the figure.</p>

<p>There are other projection types, like cubic (which is a good go-to type for most regular objects), spherical, cylindrical (which is a decent objection for human figures), and a few modified versions of those.</p>

<p>Here&#39;s the figure with the default planar projection of stone tile.</p>

<p>You can also rotate the direction of the projection. One trick is to arrange the angle of the projection to be the same as the direction the camera is looking from. This will make the texture map look &#39;perfect&#39; from the camera&#39;s viewpoint, with little distortion. Mind you, it can be tricky to work out the camera angle.</p>

<p>Here&#39;s the same figure with spherical projection that&#39;s been rotated a bit.</p>

<p>Another limitation of Iray Decals is that you can&#39;t control what material zones or body zones they fall under. If you don&#39;t want the decal to be on someone&#39;s head, you have to carefully scale and move the decal... or remove the head. In this case, playing around with statues, I noticed a big problem with eyelashes.</p>

<p>Thankfully, there are some ways to shape the figure to minimize eyelashes. With Genesis, you want to reduce eyelash length (I found it necessary to reduce it more than the limits normally let you). With Genesis 2, &#39;Eyelashes Hide 01 and 02&#39; will remove the eyelashes.</p>

<p>Also, for fun, I hid the eyes -- visibility DOES affect decals.</p>

<p>The mouth is open, and you can see the projection affects EVERYTHING.</p>

<p>So there you have it. Decals are a fun and not very hard way to add projection shading to Iray. Objects lacking UV maps, or with bad seam issues, no problem! It&#39;s not perfect, of course, and you can get distortion problems at times.</p>

<p>I also suggest that if you are going to rely on bump maps (since decals lack displacement) that you make sure to get a good normal map -- it can make a huge difference in enhancing the surface.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I&#39;m working on&nbsp; a long-term prioject and just picking up again on a file that I should have picked up on&nbsp;months before, but only just have.&nbsp; And something seriously problematic&nbsp;has happened to certain surfaces since I last worked on it.&nbsp; I know it is something I&#39;ve inadvertantly done because if I load an archive file, the issue is not there.&nbsp; But I&#39;ve got no idea what I&#39;ve done or how to fix it.&nbsp; It seems&nbsp;it is something to do with the OmUberSurface shader as all the problem outcomes have that as their shader.</p>

<p>Attached are two renders from a similar&nbsp;camera and angle from the archive file&nbsp; and current (problem) file - the characters and assets are all the same but their posing is different.&nbsp; A third attachment red-circles the problem surfaces.</p>

<p>Can anyone give me any hints as to where / how I&#39;ve changed something that is causing this unsatisfactory render on so many surfaces?</p>

I used to get both Tonemapper Options and Environment Options appearing in the render settings tab. Now they don&#39;t. They are in the scene, and I can edit them through the Parameters tab.<br />

Is there a way to put them back in the render settings tab, as it was easier to work?<br />

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Hi, everyone. I&#39;m trying to move my DAZ database and everything over to a NAS (Synology). I point the content directory, DIM download/ thumbnails/manifest to the NAS. They&#39;re the exact same files copied over to the NAS that work on my SSD.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I also made sure to change the CMS to the NAS library with port 1024 and it&#39;s only when I do that when&nbsp;the smart content goes blank. Switching it back to the library on my SSD shows all my installed content again.</p>

<p>Anyone got a clue what I&#39;m doing wrong?&nbsp;</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>From what I understand &quot;Bake to Transform&quot; takes the modified parameters of a controling figure and applies them directly to the controlled figure. So let&#39;s say I have cotroling Modifier A&nbsp;in the controling figure that moves Modifier B in the controlled figure. If I select the controling figure, hit Bake to Transform, select the location of the modifier and hit apply then the value of the Modifier A should be copy-pasted to Modifier B, correct?</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I have an environment that I purchased from a different website that I&#39;d really like to use. The problem is the textures aren&#39;t iray so it looks kind of flat and basic in renders. I&#39;m trying to redo parts of it with iray shaders, but I&#39;m having issues with this wall. Any time I try to apply shaders to it, it&#39;s only changing the base color, it&#39;s not applying any pattern or texture. I attached a picture trying to apply a random plaid texture just so I could show what I&#39;m talking about. The weird thing is, I can retexture other parts of that scene, like the ground, without issue. Anybody have an idea of what the problem is here?</p>

I have created and deleted many cameras but sometimes I run into this issue where I cannot create a Camera 1 enoguh though I have deleted that camera some time in the past yet am warned the name already exists. I&#39;ve let it sit for an hour. I always have to kill Daz from task manager if I run any of the scripts.</p>

<p>Today, I found this in the log file:</p>

edit: I figured out how to make the new workspace. &nbsp;How do I create a preset for the workspace and put it somewhere on the task bar? &nbsp;Or add any content like base Genesis 9 to that area?</p>

<p>How do I save a couple workspace presets with unique names?</p>

<p>I want to be able to easily move from one preset to another.&nbsp; Sometimes my only focus is on DS when I am on my computer.&nbsp; Other times I want to do other stuff so I need one of the monitors free for that task.&nbsp; I want to easily switch from 3 monitor use to 2 monitor use to 1 monitor use of DS.&nbsp; With any order for those 3 options.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Headshop Pro 2023 is not working for me.</p>

<p>I installed it in the C:\DAZ3D\Applications\64-bit\DAZ 3D folder.</p>

<p>I copied the Libraries, Models and morpher directories into the Headshop plugin directory.</p>

<p>In DAZ 4.23,&nbsp; I load a Genesis 8 female figure.</p>

<p>I start Headshop.&nbsp; I select Restore for the Zero Figure.( Have also tried Zero )</p>

<p>I select Genesis 8 and Female. I load a face photo. I hit Apply</p>

<p>I get the dialog box message: Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.</p>

<p>If I &nbsp;hit Continue I get File/Front_Tab_AutoSculpt_Tab etc. dialog box with a big red X on the left.and a Please Wait indicator.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>And the Please Wait goes on and on.</p>

<p><strong>So, what&rsquo;s the secret to getting Headshop PRO 2023 to work?</strong></p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>well making this post because I am just <span>[annoyed]</span> so please ignore my harsh words as doing this often lately as new vendors are joining daz universe. the problem is not related to Daz products as they have better policies of reviewing (though morph values sometimes slip through their QA ) .&nbsp; some vendors don&#39;t <span>[care]</span> about you precious hard disk space. examples ....&nbsp; one vendor product was taking 300 mbs for icons only (a genesis 8 character) and the genius puts all icons in around 2000+ X 2000+ sizes . Don&#39;t bother resizing them to 91 X 91 .</p>

<p>Similarly recently bought a pose product for Genesis 8/9.&nbsp; 70megs for each ... the D guy put 512X512 pngs . had to resize all those, thanks to acdsee a one click operation . and then each directory was about 2.1 megs.</p>

<p>Putting this as it may help someone. so do check after installing a product what that genius has done.</p>

<p>not putting names of vendors . and believe me these are not the only two cases i came across lately. <img alt="angry" src="https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/angry_smile.png" title="angry" />&nbsp;. And now don&#39;t have courage to go through old installations.</p>

<p>I choose a character, and then I apply an&nbsp;&ldquo;Attachment&rdquo; from&nbsp;&quot;Genesis 9 Anatomical Elements&quot;, and then the texture is gone (it gets grey), even if I apply the &ldquo;H. Material&rdquo;.&nbsp;</p>
