Tarot cards are an ancient deck of cards that can be used for divination. They are beautifully illustrated and have intriguing titles full of meaning. The Magician, Death, The Lovers, The Hanged Man, and The Fool are only some of the most iconic Tarot cards. 

 

The most well known Tarot deck is the Rider-Waite deck, first published in 1909 and illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith. Click here to see all the cards of this Tarot deck: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider–Waite_Tarot

 

But beyond the Rider-Waite deck there are so many more Tarot decks, both ancient and brand new. There's no reason why we in the DAZ community can't render up our own Tarot deck!

 

For the September 2026 Freebie Challenge, pick a Tarot card that you feel drawn to, then render your own interpretation of that card. Your version can hew close to the original, or it can be a completely different interpretation of the same theme.

 

I think it would be neat if the format of your render is vertical, like a real Tarot card! But I won't be a stickler about it.

 

I foresee great riches (bestowed, as always, by Kindred Arts) for those who render the most beautiful entries! I can't wait to see what everybody comes up with!

I've been using Daz professionally for over 5 years now, rendering thousands of images and hundreds of animations, so I've designed these shaders with the goal to match the quality of the marketplace. This pack contains a diverse selection of architectural materials, all created in 4K to maintain a high level of surface detail.

Along with the shaders, I've included 10 different types of utility presets that I personally use all the time when working: Bump, Normal, Diffuse Colours, Translucency, Metallic Flakes, Sheen, Top Coat, Glossy, Tiling and Displacement.

Just simply click and apply what you want instead of wasting time fidgeting with the sliders and settings. And rather than vague terms like Low, Mid, High, the presets use more tangible names. For example, Glossy presets have names like: Eggshell, Plastic Bag and Wetness, so you have a better idea of what you're actually applying. Do bear in mind that actual results may vary based on your other settings, namely the bump and normal strengths.

Please let me know whether you like these or not, and any other suggestions you might have so I can improve future releases. I plan on releasing a few more of these small freebie packs so if you have any specific types of shaders in mind, like scratch, wounds, liquid/slime, specialized clothing (brocade, denim), emissives, etc. Please do suggest those too!

COMPATIBLE WITH DAZ INSTALL MANAGER (DIM)

There are a few where catwalk model poses are offered as walking poses, but not real people poses (by this I mean ones that are not showing exaggerated hip movements or anything like 'strutting' rather than walking). So, I thought it could be useful to convert my G8F poses to G9. 

Here are the first 10, done to the G9 Andro Base. There are 10 poses, 10 mirrors and a zero pose. The character I have used is G9 base with Nerdworks' Damira head and texture. The clothing is Hypertaf's G8F Winter Trendy (was here, now at 3DShards I think) and the hair is Akhelloos's G9 Kasia hair. Phone is a Foxclaw freebie at Renderosity and the shopping bag is either a Rendo freebie or a Wilmap one. Sorry, can't remember which.

The poses are not really gendered, so could be used for either males or females.  Hope they are useful.

If you are a participant in the freebies, what can you give? ANYTHING you can create yourself.
Despite the season(s), our gifts aren't "themed", but it's always nice to have some things of the season intended also.
- textures for outfits, figures (humans, toons...), props... or even for general use
- poses, morphs...
- any model in .obj that you wish to share (with or without textures), so they can be imported in any program that accepts them
- backgrounds of many kinds: fractals, scenery, skies, water, fantasy, horror...
- tubes and such for adding to our existing backgrounds
- effects such as clouds, rain, sparks, fire...
- ...

How to get them to DarkAngel [darkangel612]:
  1. Send them by email as an attachment.
  2. Upload them to where you usually upload your things and send to DarkAngel the link in a pm or email.
  3. If you need somewhere to upload them then let her know in this post or in a pm and she will send you information for uploading.

Everything must be zipped for use, including the item, and a read-me explaining your terms of use. She will need an image of what you are giving about 1000x1000px being the largest, no need for small images the system will re-size them.

A model of a loose-fitting seamless bodysuit with baggy sleeves and pantaloons, fitted for DAZ Genesis 8 Female, intended for dForce dynamic simulation in DAZ Studio 4 or later. The material zones are configured with generic "cloth" and "trim" selections, compatible with materials from any of my other clothing items. The model loads with a simple white satin shader applied. An assortment of translucent/transparent shimmering or glittering organza-like materials are also included. The suit is loose enough that you can also fit undergarments if desired, if they are very snug-fitting.

Update 9/5/26 Added a high-rez version of the garment, with the Cloth polygons locally subdivided. UV map is the same between both models.

They've made my life easier, so I thought I'd share them. (I did use ChatGPT to script these, just a disclaimer). 

Match Object -- Lets you select one object, CTRL select a second, and then match the position of the first object. When I had scenes that were large (like a house), it was annoying moving all the characters to the location I wanted them. With this script, I can use my camera as the anchor, then move all my characters close to the camera. 

Foot Lock -- This one allows you to animated between poses and solve some of the foot slippage, as well as ground penetration with the toes. I'm personally happy with the results, but if anyone has any ideas on how to improve it, let me know.

First the geograft was expected to be in the Victoria 9 bundle, but showed up in the product Character Essentials.

When that was solved, there were discussions about corresponding textures for the provided base skins. It was said to be added, but later that Daz had no such plans, as it apparently not was suitable for minors.

At some point in time there will emerge third party products to fill that gap.

But I thought, that I might be able to refit the UV layout to match the body surface, and with some fiddling around I got a result, and it looked fine to me. For obvious reasons I can't show the result.
But I have attached the refitted UV map, that must be properly placed in a content library.

Process for use:
1) Load your G9F and skin material
2) Attach the geograft
3) Change the shader of the geograft to SkinPBR (was at least needed for me)
4) Copy the Body surface to the geograft
5) Change the UV for the geograft to 'G9_f_gens_body_UV'

For the female it is fairly straight forward to change the UV to match the body texture, for the male not so much, as there is more visible material to be covered. I might try if I can find a way that seems feasible.

The world's first fully synthetic plastic was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland, who coined the term plastics. Since then plastics have taken over the world, especially once mass manufacturing became much cheaper around the 1950's and 60's.

 

Plastics are cheap, colourful, and versatile. Everything can be made of plastic: furniture, clothes, wigs, household objects, toys, medical equipment, computers. We achieve huge advances in technology and science as we use plastics to fly to the moon and connect the entire world through the internet. Life in plastic, it's fantastic!

 

Or is it, really? Looking at the environmental and health impact of plastics, they definitely have their dark side. Is recycling really the solution, or is it just green-washing? Does "plastic" automatically mean "cheap and disposable", or can plastics bring value to our lives? For better and for worse, plastics are all around us (and they may or may not be lead by Regina George.) The theme of August is: Plastique Fantastique!

I updated its compartability for both Daz 4.24 and Daz 6. It works great in both versions. I havent had any issues with its uses. it scans an entire scene and has the option to switch the resolutions of everything that has both Basic And High Resolution. Select all or individual. Check the options for release or increase resolution. Accept and bingo. I'm suprised such a small unnoticed task can be reduced to a few clicks. Enjoy guys.

It's made for Daz Studio 6.. It's pretty easy to use. Once you load the script, it scans the scene and identify the models. It then gives the option to process all the characters or select individual ones. Then there's the option to change the resolution. Hit accept and watch it do it's thing. it also selects items loaded on the model and changes the resolution also. I got tired of going through every item in the scene and toggling the resolution. Hence the purpose of the script. Just add it to the Daz Studio Script location. C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Scripts.

You can copy a pose from any G8 character (male or female) to another other G8 character (male or female). You can choose quickly which part of the body to copy. The script can copy parts of the body, trunk, head or face rig. The script can also mirror the pose.

I don't think it does anything you can't do elsewhere, but I hope you will find it easier to use the script than the alternative means. The copy/mirror can be full body, hips and pelvis, left & right leg, torso, left arm, right arm, left hand, right hand and neck/head. You can also copy the poses associated with the face rig. It allows poses to be easily transferred between males and females.

To use:

  1. Select the G8 pose Source character. You can do this by selecting any bone in the character.
  2. Run the script.
  3. A drop down list appears of all compatible destination characters appears. Select the destination character.
  4. Choose which part/parts of the body you wish to copy/mirror. The Checkbox titles will change to reflect your current selection.
  5. Press the 'Copy Pose' button.

13 June, Added Genesis 8.1 to the possible source and destination figures to use (yes, I forgot, DOH).
