It's been awhile since I had to do something like this and I cannot remember how it is done or what function will allow me to do it.
I'm using a Genesis figure in Daz Studio 4.5. The character is chained to a wall by the wrists held in manacles. I want to be able to have the wrists stay (locked) inside the manacles while the rest of the body can be posed to squirm, twist left and right, move hips, etc.

I know there's either a parenting function or some kind of lock that has allowed me to do this in the past, but I can't seem to remember how it's done.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there.
I-m new to Daz (I'm an old maya generalist and so...)

I have to imitate a person in Daz. I'm having problems with face and clothing.
I've downloaded michael 4 and then 5.But I'm kinda lost here.

For example I didn't manage to change the lips width. Or a specific modifier for the chin.
I mean, in general, I feel that the only tool I have are sliders to mix the faces of predefined characters and by that way it's being very struggling to achieve any similarities with the person I'm trying to imitate.
I tried with shaping parameters and then I found some "called "Jamie morphs"' (for face expressions) but i guess they're not enough at all for this work. The render doesnt have to be realistic at all, the problem is the face not the final look of the render.

I didn't find any tutorial over there on how to imitate a person in daz. is it convinient?? I thoght that michael 5 would be the most versatile... ??

Any suggestions, tips, advices are most welcome!!! Thanks and forgive me for the SO-NOOBIE questions!

I'm attaching my disaster results until now, jeje!

I'm using the current release of DS4 Pro. (Can't try 4.5 since I do all my rendering with Reality, which doesn't support 4.5 yet.)

The Polygon Group Editor has a visibility toggle for each surface on an object. When using Reality, this is preferable to setting the Opacity to 0 on the surface, since it prevents Studio from exporting the geometry for the surface to Reality. And this is very important, since even geometry set to Lux's null material can cause problems in renders. So you really need it to not be there, and turning off visibility of the surfaces in the PGE is a lot easier than manually editing the scene files generated by Reality to remove the loading of all the null shapes.

However, Studio does not appear to save the visibility setting of surfaces when the scene is saved. So if you have to reload it later, you then have to go back and turn off visibility of all the hidden surfaces via the PGE again. This is tedious and error prone, especially when using objects with many material zones, like the various body/supersuits. It would be much better if Studio saved this visibility setting, just as it does for the visibility of bones/nodes in the Scene tab.

Is this a bug or intended by design? If it's by design, what about adding a user preference to control this?

Is there more easy way to make simple rigged figure(prop) on daz studio?

it means not human, or doll animals with weight, just prop which parts can move by rigs.

Now I can make simple figure by CCT, but it needs assigne face group
then use Figure set up tool, then adjust bone by joint editor, then need triax weight map,,

If I want to send obj consits of some groups from Hexagon, and want to set rig,
First, I need to weld them as one obj.

then need to assign every poligon as face groups again.
though I can use material groups for assigne face group,,

(if I did not assigne face groups, I should make many bones manually,, terrible!!)

I just want to move parts of prop (obj) with rig(bone) in daz studio.
it is better just assign face group automatically by "group name" and
follow the movements and rotation, which assined to rigs.

(of course need not buldge maps ,, graduation weight,, and ,, riggidity )

if think about machine eg robot arm, or drill prop, they need not complex surface move at all.)

so I suggest the easy rigging utillity or plug-in by object groups.

you can connect other obj(new primitive or imported obj) with new rig ,(just apply by one click new rig)too.

then you can move them as one obj,

it seems so easy to make prop animation when you want to need movements,,

(it is my test work by Geekatplay , so thaks kind video tutoriall ^^!! I hope to rig this robot someday,,)

Nothing beats a good hardware upgrade for that huge rendering job, the problem is not everyone has a disposable cash flow for that new nitrogen cooled mobo, dual hexcore cpu, a huge psu to push the triple sli cards and the 32GB of low latency DDR RAM that's going to solve all your problems, but there are several simple work methods you can do with what you have now to make bigger and more complex scenes without hitting the limitations of your current rig and they are either free or already part of Daz Studio. Just keep in mind not all of these practices work well with close up/detail and may requires some trail and error but for work on epic scenes, or crowded scenes or just background scenery these are life savers, and they work in DS3 and DS4.

.

• Optimize your render settings for the scene your rendering, more is almost always not better when it comes to 3Delights default settings in Studio. For example Turing up raytracing is not necessarily going to make a better render it's going to make the same render slower and more likely to crash and burn, try turning it down. There is an excellent response on this subject by Adamr001 here
http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=144303

.

• Use smaller textures, especially on non-closeup work: Do your eyeballs need to be 4000x4000 virtually loss-less jpeg when 768x768 will do and use 1/5 the time to convert to TDL during the pre render setup 3delight or conversion over to Luxrender if you use Reality? Lowering texture resolution requires less RAM to work in the scene, less RAM to render and creates a smaller (collective) file size. More often than not with this method you can not tell the difference between the high and low res textures once they're rendered. While the software to do this might have you looking at Photoshop ($$$) try GIMP, it's free and very powerful.
GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/
just don't delete those original high-res files!

.

• Use fewer textures when possible and supplement colors with by changing the surface of color. Green pants, blue skirt, light skin, dark skin? Use a solid white texture (or no texture) and change the surface colors to whatever you want. Use a skin texture on one M4 and adjust the surface color to something other than white, use another M4 use the same skin texture. You've now made two models with color differences and used half the textures you might have had to load/save and convert when rendering.

.

• Use Texture atlas (free from Daz3D at the time of this writing) and export models as OBJ's especially for distant models. Using this combo you can make a library of low polly, limited texture using scenes that load and save faster, and use far fewer resources when rendering. Keep in mind these will become static props (you wont be able to pose them, but you can position them and use them over and over in different scenes) This method does not translate well to close up work, but for crowded scenes it is infinitely better than piling up models and textures that will adversely affect load/save/file/ram use/rendering stability/interface stability. Need two people in a helicopter? I did this and got my load time down from 32 seconds to 2, files size down from 17.1MB to 231K, textures down from 80 to 1. At a glance I could not tell you the difference between the raw studio model and the one I did using the method.

Hide anything that doesn't show when you export your obj, it will make a smaller file that uses even less resources. There may be a little trial and error with this one but this is a awesome combo if you have limited RAM or several dozen gigs of it.
Texture Atlas: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/texture-atlas-for-daz-studio/

I might need to elaborate on this technique, but I use it constantly

.

• Discard what you don't need: As a rule, if you don't see it, get rid of it. If a model is out of the cameras range delete it from the scene. You can always make multiple scenes and save them and go back later to reposition lights, cameras and scenery. Hide anything in the scene tab that you don't need to show if you don't want to delete it.

I really hope someone can help me with this - all along since I started using Daz 4, I set up a complex and yet easy for me to find things set of folders under the Categories tab - and took countless hours going through the confusing jungles of folders in the Poser and Daz categories finding all the clothing, their materials files, the morphs, the textures, the different props and sets and well everything, and then everything related to it, and sorted it all out and put it together in a way that I knew exactly where everything was. This worked great for me until today, when I started Daz 4, and tried to use the Categories folder - which now appears to be empty!

PLEASE tell me that there is some way to get this back. It kind of makes me sick to think that all that work has been somehow erased. I guess if that is the case, I am not going to do it that way, I'll just delete everything and reload it all separately if possible and try to sort it into different runtimes or something. That will cost me a tremendous amount of time, but the way it is now, it's impossible to find anything. Soo hoping there is some sort of answer to the mysterious dissapearance of all my categories folders...

Thanks for any help! -Cathy

V4 Characters to Genesis?

I think I started a thread about this before but the search here and I don't get along (in fact, everything about the new forum software and I don't get along, but I digress), so I can't find it.

I want to move from Gen4 to Genesis but one of the biggest things holding me back is not being able to use my Gen4 Character presets on Genesis. What's the easiest way to get them working on Genesis, or converting them to Genesis?

I know I can probably use GenX to turn a saved figure into a morph for Genesis but I'd almost rather enter the morphs by hand. I say almost, because from what I can tell DS makes stuff like this as painful as possible, since there's no way to copy morph settings and past them into a text file like I can in Poser. Though now that I think of it, I guess I could do it with poser. But I'd have to save out my Char presets as CR2s first, and I have like a zillion of them.

Isn't there some way to at least get these DSBs into a text editor in a readable format? That would at least let me set up a text editor next to DS and allow me to just load up Genesis and dial the characters in by hand instead of going back and forth between a loaded Gen4 and Genesis figures for each and every morph (Yeaaarrrrgh!).

A tool to convert DSBs from Gen4 to Genesis would be ideal but then so would world peace.

Well the title is a bit of a tongue twister but I have quite an annoying problem with importing certain poser things.
Basically the problem is this, certain freebies and commerical product use poser character parented like props on other poser characters.
However in many situations if you try to open such a character the first thingthat happens is D|S backside falls out, it ignores how the parts where parented and then scales everything completely bonkers.
Anyone got a workround for this?
I've tired exported as PZ3 in poser but then DS see the first item and decides it does not want to bothers with anything else!
Now I know that Daz could say, well it cannot be compoatible with all poser products which I suppose is accpetable but I know of at least one item for sale in the Daz store (from Davorama) that does this as well.
Any suggestions or should I go back to poser?

I'm using 4.03.47 on an iMac (64 bit) and every time I apply that hair style...or try to...the program crashes. Never happens with anything I've used in my long (almost a month now) use of the program. This hair was not install in the place I usually find hair (My library...People....Genesis...Hair), but in another path (My Library...Content...Runtime...Libraries...Hair). Is that path an issue? There are also files for this hair in the "...Libraries....Pose" folder as well. Any thoughts?

Using Studio 4.0.3.47 - made a Genesis morph via the Hexagon bridge - it worked correctly in Studio. Exported as a .dsf character file. It's sitting there in the character folder and the only way to get it back into Studio is by merging(?) - Genesis loads, but no morphs.

If I first load Genesis then merge, it promises to load the file contents and goes through the actions, but nothing.

Will really appreciate some guidance on how to save morphs

Can Daz models/props be used in games/software without additional licenses?

I tried to read though the legal jargon.. The way i read it you aren't allowed to copy or redistribute the models etc.. But you can publish renders of them?

Does anyone concretely know if you are allowed to use the character/prop content that come with daz or are purchased from the daz product store?

If not does anyone know a solution for an easy way to license something like this?

Hi everybody,
I need a little help on a subject I am facing some problems on with DS4. I often model hard surfaces using Hexagon; these objects have many independent parts organized in groups. But not every form or every group needs a bone. I modeled a lot of them with DS3 and everything was working well. (I was removing all unnecessary bones keeping only one bone per solid group)
But since I work with DS4 things are not the same. If I do the same, removed geometry is not following his parent bone. If I weld forms together getting “one form per bone” (in Hex) everything works fine but this is not a good way, UV’s are messed up ad model’s structure is destroyed. So I tried to suppress some of the bones while setting the skeleton, but didn’t find a successful way to do this, neither in triaxe nor in parametric style. The problem can’t be easily seen on soft objects where part translations are not used and boneless parts are not the rule.
Does anybody has an idea or have faced the same?

Hexagon v2.5.1.79
DS4 pro win64 v4.5.0.49

Regards,
