Hi folks... finally starting this amazing switchover to Genesis... but i'm running into snags, walls and strange sticky things on the floor i can't quite identify...

it's only the main issues i'll bug you folks with, then i'll go away and be quiet:
-I can't make any Dformers on Genesis... it keeps saying 'this requires an object with geometry to be selected'...
-is there a way to transfer all my old V4.2 morphs to Genesis? i mean, i think i might have bought every morph ever made for the girl and now i'm using them all easy as breathing, i miss them terminaly when using Genesis... not to mention the custom ones i made myself
I used a script to copy them all across... but for some reason, they are a complete spazzy mess... can't use any of them unless i want to design a cactus person...

also, i've never been able to open genesis without getting some kind of error message... it's only through trial, error and rather careful deletion of files that i can even get it to load at all... although i thought at first that this might be the cause, it was actually aditional free content and morphs that were in the way... non-system sorts of files and all ones silly me had got

I was wondering if it's possible to attach accessories to your characters in DAZ, like earrings or hair or a ring. I want to do that so when I pose the character, I don't have to keep moving the item to match the pose.

If it's not possible, would I just have to import the character to Hexagon, weld the accessories to the character, then send the character back to DAZ? The rigging would be gone, so I would have to remake the bones, right? (This is really hard sounding, so I'm not excited about this idea.)

I know you can make character presets, so does doing that make the clothes stay on, too?

Now I remember why I don't do a lot of animations. AUUUGHHH!!!! It's so frustrating. I understand about key frames and how to use them, but it seems that sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I successfully animated a camera movement on the timeline using keyframes. But then I tried to move the characters neck, I twisted the neck about halfway in the timeline and even though a new keyframe automatically popped up, I still clicked on insert keyframe here (while the neck body part was selected) and as soon as I moved the scrubber in the timeline, the keyframe disappeared and the neck was in the same position before I moved it.

I obviously don't know what I'm doing. Can anyone recommend some GOOD tutorials on animation -Not "Animate"- but just the basic animation functions within Daz Studio. The tutorials in the online help section mostly deal with "Animate" and Puppeteer.

Wondering if someone out there can help me. The last time I was able to access and use DAZ3D v4 Pro was last Wed., July 4th. Now, when I try to run the application, it will not start up. I've looked at the "start-up log" and found that the script stops at "Scanning import folders" and goes no further. Past "start-up log" scrips of successful runs show that a normal start up continues with "Scanning Content folder" and goes from there. If any one has a clue as to what is going on, I'd appreciate some help.

Some other info: I've re-installed DAZ3D v4 Pro four (4) times (once with a brand new downloaded application) -- nothing. I also renamed the "Content Management Service" folder to "Old" before running the installation -- still nothing.

Appreciate any help I can get!

I could cut that render time in half if I set it to 15 FPS. Just wondering before I try that, is there a noticeable difference in the final render? Would it be too jerky? 15 frames per second is still a lot of frames in one seconds worth of time.

For example, if a digit's Limits are +90 and -45, bending a finger backwards (-45) will stop at another number value, say -30, using entered values or the sliders. What I assume is an IK chain-link (within the parameter setting for a joint) has to be set to off or "broken" to reach the stated negative value of Limits.

Why is that? Is there a way to disengage all of these at once with some kind of setting or operation, rather than breaking the chain-link individually?

I did post the same question in the old forums but as the search doesn't work in it I'm posting again (and as I've got confused again!).
My content for DS4 in DS4 is a mess - I was fine with DS3, it was organised and I knew exactly where to install it and where to find it in DS3. But since moving to DS4 I'm finding it a nightmare. I have to look in various folders to find content and have lots of folders that don't contain any and shouldn't be showing. All the older stuff under Poser Formats is fine (just like it was in DS3). But I'm still not sure where I should be installing stuff now in DS4. Looking at the documentation it says:

PC USERS (WINDOWS XP)
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user account]\Application Data\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

I'm using XP but I don't want to install it to Documents and Settings/[user name]/Application Data....and I don't want to use the CMS.

I want to be able to keep all my content in my folders set for DAZ Studio. So my question is how do I do that? Do I just need to make sure I have a folder called 'My Library'? So could I for example have ..Studio\content\My Library / I remember reading before that you had to have a 'My Library' folder somewhere.

It really is driving me nuts....

Does the EULA only prohibit you from using geometry in real time, or does it include poses and animations too? I'm looking for some gun/combat poses for Genesis, but I have found no Daz original products in what I'm looking for.

Hi all :-)

I'm preparing to rig my first tri-ax figure - I notice there is a setting for rigidity groups. What I want is the spikes on the back and tail to move with the parent bones and be able to move independently - stand up, lie down, but not be deformed. I have already defined all the face groups, with separate groups for the spikes. Would defining them as rigidity groups achieve what I want?

If so, how would I go about transferring them to rigidity - would I need to re-define them, or what?

Also, how do I fix a typo in one of the group names?

Off topic - anyone know how long RC3 will be active before being replaced - I'd like to try it out, but don't want to use up a huge chunk of my monthly broadband allowance, only to have it expire soon.

Any advice will be much appreciated.:-)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make back tattoos for Genesis (which I believe uses V4 skin textures) but the alignment is proving painfully slow.

Has anyone seen a Genesis V4 Skin Template/Guide to help with aligning accross the skin seams?

I also work with V4 & M4 so it would be great if there is a complete set available for purchase.

I've searched high and low on the web, but even finding a guide is painfully tedious and I'm worried they don't actually exist :(

A web-link would be really appreciated right about now :)

Thanks in advance!

Not everybody uses Genesis, and I would like an easy way to fit clothes on the V4/ M4 characters I already put some considerable effort into without having to do it all over again with Genesis, especially since Genesis doesn't even have all the morphs that the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 characters have.
