<p>The triquetre as clumsily modelled in the model room. The triple spiral you can take into the model room, select all and then Model&gt;add thickness</p>

<p>I&rsquo;m not sure how to upload a car file to sharecg &ndash; so hints on that would be handy.</p>

<p>These are just a couple of magical symbols. The txt suffix needs to be changed to car.</p>

<br />
I thought there was a thread, or a guide or something going over this here on the forums, but I&nbsp;wasn&#39;t able to find it. So, forgive me if asking this is redundant.<br />
<br />
In short, I&#39;m trying to figure out how to install content for Carrara in a way where it&#39;s organized similarly to DAZ Studio.<br />
In other words, each component has its own dedicated folder. So, I can go down the line of picking the figure, then a particular shape/material, then clothing, clothing textures, and so forth.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
I&#39;ve tried setting up a variety of different content folders through DIM dedicated to a given category, and then adding them separately through the Content tab. But that approach seems to break a number of things, so they don&#39;t work together, or work at all.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Installing everything and letting DIM organize it results in a mess of folders and subfolders, and things buried where you wouldn&#39;t necessarily expect to find them, so I really want to avoid that.<br />
<br />
I intend to work primarilly with V4 and M4 generation figures, so that&#39;s what I&#39;m most interested in getting working. I can also set up a separate folder for creatures and such.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
I&#39;m working through DIM primarily, but if there&#39;s a way to do it manually, I&#39;m game to give that a shot, too.<br />

<p>Red cube is my &quot;measure&quot; object against . Here I have lined up and made the center point at the base so I can scale until it touches the other end to measure.<br />
Note: This can get crazy as it takes&nbsp;many moves to do&nbsp;(add, scale, change center point and rescale and of course position next to what you are measuring).<br />
I am then simply noting the height of the measure cube. There has to be a better way? A 3rd partyC arrara plugin maybe?<br />

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Hello again,<br />
<br />
I seem to have found another bump in the road lol.<br />
<br />
Setting up a character for some basic lighting and other &quot;getting used to Carrara stuff&quot;.<br />
Decided to use the Kameez outfit, which I also purchased the texture pack for.<br />
<br />
For some reason, though, none of the textures for Kameez shows up in Carrara. For the original item, or the extra textures. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling through DIM, but that didn&#39;t make a difference.<br />
<br />
Attached some screenshots to show what I mean.<br />

Any clues on how to fix this?&nbsp;<br />

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Greetings, and a warm welcome to chohole and all other new users :)</p>

<p>Well, I had a few mins, so I thought I would share some hints for working in Carrara.<br />
These hints would have saved me a lot of time if I had known them initially.</p>

<p><br />
1) when you load carrara  (if you have a lot of content) don't let it search for your runtimes, add the folders manually :)</p>

<p>2) Next Edit your Preferences, especially the <span>views shortcuts</span>. Assign Left Right Top Bottom to the numerical pad's appropriate arrows. Assign number 3 (page down)  to Director's Camera. This will be one of your most used keys.</p>

<p>GETTING AROUND in THE ASSEMBLY ROOM</p>

<p>3) when you drop an object into the assembly room and can't find it, look for it in the instances tab (the list over on the bottom  right).<br />
Click the object to select it. Then hit the zero button, and your view will zoom in on the object.</p>

<p>4) On the top left of the assembly room window you will see "Camera 1". </p>

<p>This means you are looking through Camera 1. This is bad because if you change your viewpoint then it will get added to the UNDO list. It will also animate the camera if you are doing an animation. So click on where it says Camera 1 and you will get a drop down list. Select <span>Director's Camera. </span>Always do your posing etc while in Director's Camera. It will make life easier for you. Especially if you have assigned Director's Camera to Button 3.</p>

<p>5) To pan sideways hold down the tab key and the left mouse key.</p>

<p>6) To orbit your selected object hold down the "alt" key and use the left mouse key to pan around that object.</p>

<p>7) To select an object when there are several objects overlapping right click in the area and you will get a drop down list of objects in that area to select.</p>

<p>8) the ALIGN OBJECTS shortcut is one  you will use often as well. First select the object you want to align to, then shift select the next so they are both selected. Click Ctrl&gt;K this will bring up a window with alignment parameters. Click x,y and z. This will align the hot points.</p>

<p>9) Hotpoints. The hotpoint of an object is what it will rotate around. Usually you want it in the centre. However a lot of meshes and CLOUDS come in with the hot point decentred. </p>

<p>To fix a hotpoint  in Car 8.1 look at the top right of your window. Hit the tab that says "Motion". Then you will find a window that has lots of numbers. There will be two buttons that say (from memory)  object to hotpoint , or hotpoint to object. Click on the one you want.</p>

<p>10) To change the hot point of an object manually use caps lock and drag the arrows.</p>

RANDOM THOUGHTS</p>

<p>11) Instead of using Carrara's fog use Clouds.</p>

<p>12) If you plan to use Carrara seriously grab Fenric's plugin for keyboard shortcuts for travelling down the instances list. You will love it.</p>

<p>13) Fenric's other Plugin that you really should get is Shader Doctor. Shader Doctor allows you to reset POSER shaders en masse on a figure so that their highlights aren't blown out. Otherwise on eg Stonemasons Emerald Forest you will be there all day and still miss some shaders. </p>

<p>14) Carrara comes with standard ambient light at 20 percent. Get rid of  it or your renders will be washed out. </p>

Am testing out the different figures I already have for Genesis/V5. Tori is one of them.<br />

For some reason, their skin is super shiny, in the editor, and in renders. I haven&#39;t changed anything. This is how they look immediately when loaded.<br />
Again, I tried finding info about this in the forums, but couldn&#39;t get any results about it.<br />
<br />
Any idea why this happens? It&#39;s the only one I&#39;ve seen this with so far.<br />

<p>trying to limit constrains on camera movement.</p>

<p>was guessing rotate limits would be ball joints?</p>

<p>wanted to lock the x rocking.&nbsp; limit tilt up n down by 45/-10 degrees.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br />
but not locking the zoom in and out. and not lock the frame by hitting 0.<br />
my efforts are locking everything but the tilt. with ball joint on, 0 doesnt work.&nbsp; cant scroll in.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>So I use boolean alot to take away, but wondering how to use it to add to. In the example below I have a big box and the lower half has holes that I want to plug (yellow object to plug)&nbsp;Union merges, intersect takes away all but where the big box and yellow cube intersect, Box minus cube take out where yellow was including the box as expected and cube minus box for some reason is just like union. What I want to do is box minus yellow cube except where they intersect. Hope this makes sense. Holes are all the way around the bottom all side but left some and not doing so you can see. what is there<br />

<p>I&rsquo;ve had only a few troll comments, one of whom I recognized from the Renderosity Carrara Forum.&nbsp; He was on a mission to convince everybody that it was stupid to even use Carrara.&nbsp; And of course, he posted none of his own work anywhere.&nbsp; So he got a lot of well deserved pushback &hellip;</p>

<p>I certainly animate whatever I want to, it&rsquo;s just a hobby for my own amusement.&nbsp; If somebody doesn&rsquo;t like it, they&rsquo;re entitled to their opinion.&nbsp; But I&rsquo;m glad I&rsquo;m not relying on view numbers for income, that would make it &hellip; <em>work</em>!&nbsp; (Spoken with a Maynard G.       <description><![CDATA[<p>dont really know what to expect.</p>

<p>i saved a master pose, selected some expression morphs.&nbsp; the tiles is sitting in the clips mini tab.</p>

<p>i selected the figure (toon dragon) double clicked the tile tab.&nbsp; his expression didnt change.<br />
double clicked the thumbnail in the browser tray clips tab. it opened a new document window.</p>

<p>next i dragged the tiles to the sequencer, hit play.&nbsp; his expressions didn&#39;t change.</p>

<p>i didnt want to make a nla clip, just wanted to apply a single pose at frame 0.</p>

<p>help!!</p>

<p>Here in&nbsp;Texas, we are saying that the pandemic year 2020 was hell, and 2021 was the year hell froze over.&nbsp; Brrrr.&nbsp; Well, a quick check of a scifi movie chart shows that next year, 2022, is the year that the movie Soylent Green was set in.&nbsp; Have you seen Soylent Green?&nbsp; It is a movie about people.&nbsp;&nbsp;<img alt="devil" src="https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png" title="devil" /></p>

<p><strong>Requirements</strong>&nbsp;- use Carrara in your workflow for an image displaying a dystopian future.&nbsp; Post your image in the&nbsp;designated entry thread when the time comes.&nbsp; You can use scene assets (props, figures, lights, shaders,...) from any source, not just Carrara. Postwork is fine, but please post the un-postworked render in the WIP thread.&nbsp; Speaking of that, at least one work-in-progress post to this discussion thread is required.&nbsp; The render must be new (started and finished during the time of the Lil Side Render Fun).&nbsp; Have fun.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>you know how the face morphs only show when &#39;head&#39; is selected,</p>

<p>i dunno why, but i thought clicking the double down arrows would show a selection of body parts under root to quickly get to the head and expression morphs,&nbsp; it&#39;s the toon dragon, no face rig is all morph based.</p>

<p>is there a way, after saving the figure to carrara, to show all the morphs in the figure without drilling down to the head?</p>
