Simple Backdrops

Hi all,

A simple question:

Was wondering how to create a simple backdrop for a render (eg like a portrait studio) in DAZ Studio ? ... some examples are :

I am fairly sure that the top one is an IBL sphere. Probably the one associated with the light used.

IBL (Image based lighting) has an image sphere that goes around the scene. Some of them are very clear and pretty photos. This product for example :  http://www.daz3d.com/shop/environments-props/lighting/skies-of-terra-volume-one  by DimensionTheory. Others may use a more abstract image. Some of the uberenviroment settings for example have pretty abstract images. (Light presets/omnifreaker/uberEnvorment2 in your studio content or library depending on your set up) and other lights will have images somewhere in between. To use the sphere image as a background you would make it visible during render. Since that top render is from one of Dimension Theory’s products you might PM and ask if it was one of his light products. You can always make one yourself by creating an image that is 2048x1024 (or any variation that retains that ratio) and is seamless.

Thats not really what I was looking for. The examples that I linked in my first post of this thread were chosen to illustrate a neutral backdrop with good lighting. Like you would see in a photographic studio. But of course I would want to have a good lighting setup as well.

You could try to use the DAZ Cyclorama and remove all pictures added to diffuse.
That would give you some kind of paper roll background.

Yes, but does that work in DAZ Studio ?
I haven’t tried yet, but I wonder how many of these Poser environment systems work in DS (or translate well to DS) ?

scorpio64dragon, that is getting close to what i want, but I don’t like the patterns. I am looking for a plain background, with maybe a color gradient either created by the light, or part of the backdrop itself.

You could always use the texture template and create your own custom colored or other types of backgrounds in Photoshop or some other editor

No, it is part of the product.  If you buy the Photo Studio Product (link posted above). It includes the texture template for the background.  You can add/create your own textures to it for rendering in Studio to get the look you want.

Don’t know what you mean by template, but I do this with nearly every product.  The GIMP has some nice gradient and noise features, and combining them with different blurs and colors produces a nice set of backdrops that are often custom to a given item.  When you want to do this you render to .png with the best lighting you can and then composite the background in with GIMP, Photoshop, or another photo editor that can handle layers.  As long as you don’t postwork your actual figures or items, it’s a commercially accepted practice.

I used to render figures against a cloud/blur colored Cyclorama, but that set didn’t last long in the DAZ store and I haven’t seen it since.

Another option is to render in PNG so you have a transparent background and then add your figure to whatever you want in Gimp, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, or whatever else it is you use.
