What’s the best way to make a string tied through a hole?
good question,..
it depends on what you want to show the viewer,.
If you want a close up of the knot, then you’d need a reasonably detailed model, ,perhaps with a frayed end (dynamic hair)
if it’s more distant, you could use a simpler model, or a displacement map.
If you want an object swinging from that rope, like a noose, then it’s more complex.
Carrara’s “Bullet” soft-body physics can be used for flexible objects like a rope, but the option for internal pressure isn’t working correctly, so it’s probably easier, and quicker, to create a long cylinder, with many sections,.. and add a line of bones to it, so you can bend the rope whatever way you want.
