Thanks for your suggestion JimmyC. I’ve looked at those and I don’t find anything very photorealistic. Interestingly there is a product selling ‘eyes’ which has quite a nice skin texture at least on the cover of the product (less so on other examples):

Is it the case that perhaps the skin texture used in that image comes from a different renderer ? Either way, thanks for your suggestion.
That product is by Raiya. I’d bet that the skin texture displayed in the promo image is from another one of Raiya’s products…probably Dawn from the looks of it. http://www.daz3d.com/shop/dawn-for-v4-and-v5 Or Summer Edition Erin: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/summer-edition-erin
I agree with the others who recommended Elite textures…I own nine of them now (including the ones that come with V5 and M5) and while some are more photorealistic than others, you can pretty much count on them to yield good results…as long as you use good lighting and render settings (as Jaderail said). This is hugely important…you can make a mediocre texture look good with the right setup, but with poor lighting a great texture will still look fake.
Something else you might want to look into are products designed to increase the realism of your renders, like the Reality plug-in (which does use a different render engine), or Interjection. I don’t own these, but I think they’re worth a look.
