I would like to make some textures. I know how to SEE the UV Mapping, but how do I save it to a bmp or png file so I can create textures with ps?

You need to use a third-party tool, such as UV Mapper Classic, to export a template.

Most products here offer templates in those funny extra tabs on the bottom of their sales pages.

I imagine Hexagon does it, too, and it is also free - but I’ve not looked into that.

Yes, Hex does it. When in UV map view, there is a camera icon at the bottom which will open a save UV map dialog box.
