Not to lead anybody astray you know.

Lucked into this amazing book with PICTURES of, are you ready, BONES.

okay, actually they are drawings, very well done works of art in themselves of Skeletons ... done by somebody who actually knows what a skeleton is.

The book is called The Resurrectionist [NOT to be confused with The Resurrection] and the cover art is of a humanoid with wings in what appears to be a very logical place. NOT popping out of the back like a bird’s.

Possible critters I can choose from:

Sphinx Alatus
Siren Oceanus
Satyrus Hircinus
Minotaurus Asterion
Ganesha Orientis
Chimaera Incendiarius
Canes Hades
Pegasus Gorgonis
Draconis Orientis
Centaurus Caballus
Harpy Erinyes

These being rather extinct critters there are of course, no coloured finished photos of them however Harpy Erinyes looks rather interesting. Lots of plates. Male and Female innards even, fetus and egg ... as in the egg that gets laid for the fetus to hatch out of.

Conceivably hunted to extinction is the Centaurus Caballus. The mane [nothing fantastic here] runs down the humanoid’s back to his rump which happens to be the horse part’s withers. Looks like a rather painful skeleton. Horse type tail.

Horse with Wings!!!! The wings come out near the top of the withers.

Canes Hades —- dog like creature with 3 similar heads and a serpent type tail. A pack of real specimens was found. Some had 2 or 3 heads and one of them had 6.

... interesting reading for sure.

............... edit to add .... and it’s a book of fiction! Found a link here: click here  [hope nobody was surprized by that, however the artwork is amazing none the less]

Progress! What comes first, the birdman or the egg? Why the egg of course!

One makes a sphere, squishes it abit, uvmaps it, etc ... “one harpy egg”. I made a .cr2 so the egg can be split in half. Have no idea how many would be in a clutch ... presumably not too many. Anyway I think everybody knows how to make a sphere so I shall carry on and see what tomorrow brings wink

Looks like an interesting and challenging project smile

Looking forward to seeing your progress!

P.S. How about posting some pics of those strange creatures and make a modelling challenge of it - as you did with the bulldog?

Thought of doing that but we weren’t exactly flooded with bulldogs and figured people are mostly shopping or playing with their new purchases.

Few other details I need to check first too. Like if any of these images are already available online somewhere wink

Okay ... have put together a few images ... if people want to work on this too, that would be great. We’ll have a flock of Harpies flying all over the place lol ... think we’d better aim for an end of the month deadline for “something” as that’s the season for such renders, yes?!

I’ve been calling this a fetus; actually embryo may be more accurate. Truth be told, a lot of these things look very much alike as far as I’m concerned.

So for inside the egg ... here’s the start of our little critter ...

images are named sequentially

Good luck with this project.

Not the way I would of approached it. But that’s one of the things about 3D modelling, there are different ways of making the same object.

Thanks.

This little .obj is just to be ‘something’ to put inside the egg so not going all out to make it super 3D, rigged, etc. All they do is ‘grow’ lol ...

One of the other methods is by creating a series of face normals ... others have great tutorials about for the modeling of faces, heads, bodies, etc ... and me thinks the TOS would flip if I posted those things.

.................................

I noticed something about the book advertized and shown on the ‘Net ... it plainly states that it’s a work of pure fiction ... BUT ... the copy I bought most definitely does not show that information so plainly. Indeed quite the opposite. It DOES say it’s fiction as in a fictional biography of Dr. Black but there’s this whole page from the Publisher indicating that indeed there was a Dr. Black and that people had sent in plates and letters for the book from all over. And that I had read in the store and figured great because plates that old are basically public domain and I could use them. However in reading through information found on the ‘Net now ... it appears that the entire book is a work of fabrication and that the artist created all the images. As he’s alive and well, I sent him a permission request and a link to this thread so shall wait and see now if continuing this tutorial with his images is okay with him.

Finished the little fella ... hehehe ... “fun with shaders” ...

Not into detailing this myself ... but if one wants to, the more mesh provided, the more you can work with, now or later in morphing.

Bit of a storm right now so pics have to wait.

edit ... okay as there was no interest in a competition that’s been scrapped.

Will continue with my own wip ... eggs and something to put inside them done.

Next comes the birdman.

Feel free to tell me how I should have done this lol ...
