Well, I was curious about the shader aspect. Apparently you can't just make a graphic (like in photo paint) and apply it to the surface. (where you browse and select image for diffuse) I get the popup that says
tdlmake:error while making texture file
and (my file name) not found (in shader 'dzplastic' on object '<unnamed>')

It applies and shows up in viewport, but renders black. Guess it meant what it says, lol

This is what I have so far. The render is taken by 3Delight (the size of the image will be fixed for the final render) and about to try Luxrender.

I know the background isn't the greatest quality, but I'm willingly to learn how to create my own beach.

Used mixed shader on the Frisbee and one set of bikini, so far.

Critique away! *smile*

it's a jpg- I am in the middle of reading a tutorial and using the shader mixer, will keep you posted. I'm determined to master this, whether I even enter the contest or not.

You should not have problems. I simply browse for a JPG or PNG I like and then apply it. Nothing wrong happens.

See the thread on Shader Mixer- I definitely have errors on the CMYK as it is only taking RGB. It is a studio glitch- I have used images (CMYK) images many times in Diffuse channel for surfaces. SIGH.

Title: Headed to the Beach W.I.P.

This is what I have so far for the July contest. I posed the figures from scratch (no use of poses) and I textured just about everything in sight. I have not applied any lights yet. It was rendered using 2 daylights so I could see what I was doing.

Before I go any farther I just wanted some opinions on the posing, scene, or anything else that is glaringly obvious to you but not to me.

Thanks in advance.

Wonderful setup!
Okay, first impression- I would tuck the ball into the woman's stomach- if she's holding it, it probably wouldn't be out in the air like that, and second, it would put more attention on the child in the car. (Although it does draw your eye out.) Even if she is JUST grabbing the ball, tucking it in would give more "space" to the scene and the child would get more attention.

I adore the detail of the man's hand holding the cooler handle, VERY nice touch! Just a thought. Now if this were my setup- I'd have the lighting coming from OUR view- so it can shine in the car and light up the child more. Or our view just a bit to the side, so you can get some nice shadows to add "oomph." I really like this one- nice going! (and ignore everything I said if you like it the way it is. It's just how I would do it. *smile*)

Hi all

Kismet: my 2 cents: the trunk door frames greatly the scene, keep that as the top reference for the final framing - good one. About the composition, all looks good but there is one main drawback imho, and that is to have several characters giving their back to the camera. In photography, television, filming etc. all scenes are composed trying to have all people facing the camera. Here the man loading the car can't be reposed, since it gives sense to the scene, but the girl with the ball (also with Novica's suggested tweaks) might be made looking at the man, so she would be at least giving her side to the camera instead of her back (i'm mostly talking of her head).
Finally, a wider angle lens would allow you to get closer into the scene possibly cutting off the right side wall and beach-chair that are 'distracting' as they look now... besides, since they are loading the car to leave, an open beach chair is a bit odd; if you still want to include it in the scene, you might use it folded and maybe put it as a ramp between the ground and the trunk as if waiting to be collocated inside; this would also enhance eye catching and pull spectators' aim right into the scene.

Thanks Novica & Kesh. Those are great suggestions. I was up quite late getting the poses to the stage they are. ( Probably should not have been working on it when I was so tired smile ) There were many details that bugged me and I know it still needed work. It is not even close to being a finished product. But, being a newbie, and not having a great deal of experience in real life photographing people, I figured it was time for some help.
