Issue with Weld

Having an issue with the Weld function. When I select my helmet and click it, 2 things happen. One, all the parts that are selected turn white, and 2, things like the Visor over the helmets eyepiece change shape. It looks fine, until I select all and click weld.

    The 'turns white part" =.> the shading domains and uvmap have gone "poof", have to be redone.

    Changing shape ? smoothing applied ?

    That will happen when you use the weld function, and as Patience55 queried you likely have smoothing applied also.
    Ask yourself if it Is really necessary to weld your objects? Some models are far better off left as separate components.
