I JUST loaded up an old scene in DS 4.5. This is a very complex scene for what I normally do… This scene when fully loaded took about a minute to load up.
Main Scene: People have made others nervous to upgrade because of this and that.. one complaint is missing objects.. yup, there was one…. only one thing was missing from the scene and it really wasn’t missing but it was not visible… a spear. I hunted that down in about 3 minutes and took about a minute to reposition and parent it to the left hand. The old spear was still being shown as there but it’s really not. So I took the old spears tweaked DS surface settings and saved those out as a new Matt preset, deleted the old invisible spear and then applied the new DS friendly preset to the new one. Done!
M4: Then I beefed up Michael, changed his head shape quite a bit. Then set his loin cloth up with smoothing/collision and it just lays perfectly over the beefed up body. He’s got Jepe’s hairy suit on and also gave it smoothing/collision and all the areas that I was having issues with vanished, lays over the top of the skin perfectly now.
Render: Well the original render that I did in DS 3 64 bit took well over 2 hours to do. I don’t have patience so I ran to the grocery store and back, iirc, and it was still chugging away when I got back. Today, after all the tweaking I crossed my fingers and .... you won’t believe it… 13 minutes total to render this same updated scene! SERIOUSLY! I was sitting there in shock and… AND it looks better. LOTS better. Same lights but what ever tweaks they did to the over all program and render engine it’s really nice now.
Postwork: Photoshop CS6: Few layers of mist, a copy of the main piece, desaturated and a soft light blend mode applied to it and text and a little tweak to the hair color since the streaks looked odd seeing that they are not on a modern day man! lol
