Both bot armor and Aikobot2 have a lot of styling (grill vents/etc) in the arm and forearm segments that is actual geometry, so not easily hidden. Whereas this bot figure has very smooth arms. The hands also look much slimmer than Aikobot2’s, to me. The geometry of the cowls from both sets don’t lead to easy hiding of items to get the look of the cowl on this bot, either, even with judicious use of the PGE.
Bot Armor led to Aikobot led to Aikobot2. My guess is that this is the next iteration on the product, probably for Genesis. If it was exactly the same as a prior product, even with the flexibility that Genesis brings, I don’t think a lot of people would upgrade. Hence why this looks so similar, and yet isn’t.
If it’s a new, not-yet-released product, that’s annoying but not a huge problem — if I knew for sure then I could say so, at least. What I’m worried about most is that the shoulder’n'elbow joints are hand-painted transparency’n'displacement maps on a figure over an armature like DzFire’s Cyborgs, created specifically for this promo and therefor never to be available. That would, IMHO, be deceptive advertising — it would violate the strongly implied “Buy Our Products And YOU Can Make Art Like THIS” (I’ve been doing this for almost eight years, and every time I’ve attempted that I’ve failed miserably).
