I’m looking for a contemporary street scene that is not sci-fi, post-apocalyptic or horror.  There are lots of modern day clothes, but I don’t see anything urban to support them.  Checked several sites but no luck.  Can you suggest anything?

Check out Stonmason’s Urban Sprawl 2. Its not cheap but a great modern city set with many places to set up different renders.

I should add that it’s an outstanding set in particular.

For other aspects of a modern urban scene, there are:

http://www.daz3d.com/shop/the-dark-side-of-the-city  A nice back alley set in a rougher area of town
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/city-ruins-bundle  Ruins of modern buildings, like would be found in a war zone
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/the-warehouse A well stocked interior AND exterior warehouse, good for commercial districts
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/the-streets-of-nyc-townhouse-row Just like the title says - a row of townhouses. Good for residential areas of a more urban city
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/city-courtyard
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/tin-pan-alley Yet another alleyway, good for a more rundown area
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/the-backstreets  And the actual streets of said rundown area, demonstrating urban decay
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/a-quiet-street

And… well, the fact that all of those are by Stonemason is just a coincidence, I assure you! :D

Definitely urban sprawl 2 will meet your requirements.  It’s a large environment.  Here is a link http://www.daz3d.com/shop/urban-sprawl-2-the-big-city

Unfortunately, it’s one of the products that is missing the additional promo images that usually populate a product page, a casualty of the store change but it’s an excellent set of modern building models and props.

I’ve been using IanMPalmer’s Macropolis (now part of his Instant City product)  as background in Muse of a Knight.

It’s not great for close ups, as it’s scaled for background use, but it’s very useful when combined with other sets to give depth to city scenes.

Besides the great recommendations from the other posters, check this out from Dreamland Models…

These guys have a virtual town of 10 big blocks of modern urban buildings.

The stuff is really great. It works in D|S, Poser, & Carrara.

This is usually my go-to set:

There’s really a wide variety of neighborhoods available in there.

I must admit he is my urban set man I’m just missing two of these at this time.

For an urban city environment, i would agree on this being an awesome set.  Also, it is my personal favorite.
