OK, that’s why you didn’t get any warnings - though these days I would advise adding some kind of script blocker to your browser if possible, even highly reputable sites have slipped and been tricked into running ads that carried malware (of course if we all block scripts sites will no longer get advertising revenues and will either close or go subscription).

Not just sites…several of the biggest internet advertising suppliers have been duped into pushing malware laden ads.  So that ends up hitting ALL the sites using that service!
