Directory help please!

Hi,

I recently upgraded to 4.5...and then immediately uninstalled it and went back to 3.1.
The directory where I stored all my DAZ files shows up in the DAZ Native directory but when I try to open them I get a directory error message telling me it cannot find the right files and to consult the log file.
(curiously, it does not tell me what to look for in the log file, or what to do with that unknown information.)
I also notice that there is an 'S' on those folders.?

I have tried every conceivable configuration with no luck.

What is going on here?

    You need to have your content folder listed in Edit > Preferences > Directories in DS3. Mine is in Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio3/Content, do you have that listed?

    The stylised 'S' is to tell you that the item is DAZ Studio content, and that symbol only appears when you are looking in a Poser Formats runtime folder.

    Your Poser Formats and DAZ Studio formats directories should both point to the same place, Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio3/Content, or whatever folder you have them stored in. You can look at the log file in Help > View Log File, and you should see an error messgae with the name of the object you were trying to load that generated the error.

    Can you post a screenshot of your Directories in Preferences for both Poser and DS formats?

    Both the DAZ and poser directories are identical as shown in the pic.

    I have DAZ installed on my C: hard drive but all my storage on and external drive E:. That wouldn't effect it would it?

    The 'Cannot find file for storable...' means that your 'data' folder is not where DS thinks it is, and it is not available to look at.

    Any .DAZ file that is saved, writes the geometry, amongst other things, to the data folder, and it needs access to that in order to reload the scene. Have a look inside E:/Content to see if there is a folder called 'data', if not, you will need to do a dearch for the data folder to find out where it is.

    You could open a new scene with the item treeline_28 in it, save it, and the older scene file may open for you, but I think there are probably other things missing as well. Can you create a new scene, and get it to open?

    No, I cannot save a new file and re-open it.

    How do I tell DAZ where to look for the data file? I see it in my contents directory and it is full of files.

    Have you recently changed the paths in Preferences? The entry you have should work, was it ever any different to that?

    Can you show a screenshot of the collapsed view of your E;\Content folder, showing what it contains? Is the 'data' folder directly under E:\content? For example E:\content\data. If so it is baffling me.

    Can you do a search on your machine for 'data', and see where the folder actually is, because DS3 will have created one.

    I copied my data folder from my E/ Directory and merged it with the data file in the DAZ program and everything seems to be back to normal. Woo Hoo!
