Cameron is an ancient Scots surname, as in Clan Cameron.
Nowadays it is also used as a given name, primarily for males, but has been used for females on occasion.
People may be less inclined to use it as a given name if they knew the meaning of it, as cam is crooked in the gaelic, and sròn means nose, so crooked nose.
Incidentally I am descended from Clan Cameron, and males in our family are traditionally given the name Cameron as a second name, as in my eldest Grandson, who is Daniel Cameron, and then the family name.
