You can change the background colour as shown below, but if you want a gradient or an iamge of some sort. you would need to use Edit > Backdrop, and load your image there.

I don’t think that’s a backdrop nor a background, more likely a prop, and the “gradient effect” looks to be Ambient Occlusion created by the lights.

That is one of the Photo walls/Backdrops, I believe it is free on Share. I’ve seen it before. It is a Prop you can put images on.
