So. An exercise in dial spinning, but you do need to invest in a number of new dials. Still, it's clearly doable, without needing additional programs like ZBrush. I assume that it's possible to save the result out as a character morph that can be applied, rather than have to save the scene file for merging or to use as a starting point for building new characters?

You know, I was I was looking through the Gen 4 Iconic Shapes just now and I remembered when I saw the Basic Child mixed morphs shots with the V4, M4 & S4 shapes. I'm not sure if these is supposed to be excuses not to support children-specific shaping anymore, but these are just something I thought were interesting enough to throw into this topic...

    Hi again.
First of all, I didn´t intend to knock anyones efforts in my earlier post. I should probably have stated that the ones available is not right for *my* particular needs.
They might be the correct proportions(though, again, not for my purposes), but that is not all that makes up a child. Neither is it enough to make the forms of the face rounder. All(atleast the ones I have seen) available child morphs/dials I have seen for genesis or kids4 have something aboutthem that is not quite right. I cannot quite tell what. If I could I´d try and make my own morph. The closest I get to figuring it out is that they have a certain *sharpness* about them that makes them seem to be just a miniturized adult.
Again, I need to state that I am looking for what might be called an idealized child/youth. I am also going outside of this threads parameters as I am not looking for a Laura/Luke clone, but rather as I said an idealised childform. Thornes seem to be very near to what I am looking for, though I would still want to see it as a *nude* clayrender like the ones above.

To reference the images above I could try and dissect what I see as problem areas.
Thighs(maybe the whole leg) should be skinnier and slightly longer(again stylistic preference maybe)
    Chest/torso is too boxy.
Also the hands or forearms look slightly off.
Mouth, esp. lower lip, could be fuller.
Eyes should be , or appear, slightly larger
Ears could go a bit lower

These are just opinions I wish I coulddo these myself, but I can´t so just trying to get my two cents to the people who can.

Thorne that 'basic youth' package is looking great! I think it will fill the long standing gap between basic child and V5 and M5 and the proportions and added details are fantastic. Great work! When you expect to release them? :) And thanks RCDeschene, those images are very helpfull :)

I am currently working on a "Basic Youth" set for Genesis which will include both a teen girl and teen boy shape. These have been in development for a while now and so should be surfacing in about another month, just finalizing some of the extra included morphs and the new texture sets, of which there will be one each for the boy and for the girl.

The boy will look much more boyish than in the preview below-- he just has a V4 texture in this image, because his isn't finished yet, but this shows the basic shapes. These have all new joint parameters and any Genesis clothing will fit them perfectly.

    Soon. ;)

    Ohmygod....these look awesome!!!! :)

AFAIK just the K4 basic wear that comes with DS4, but not to worry there's plenty of slut wear for them to use instead  >:-(

Well you can use Wilmap's freebies for REASONABLE clothes... they are kind of ageless sort.

That would be why I want clones of Luke, Laura, Matt, Maddie, both Mil Babies, and the Gen 2 mill kids. :)

However, kids, especially modern kids in casual settings, don't really have to dress like "kids." There are jeans, t-shirts, shorts, sweats and sandals available for Genesis that will do just fine on any age. Even some dresses (Most of Hitomi's line, several items from Mada) work fine for girls without raising eyebrows.

For clothing, in my picture Julie is wearing the Kenzi skirt by Mada (from DAZ- there is also a K4 version of these clothes so they are meant for kids) : http://www.daz3d.com/shop/kenzi-outfit-for-genesis/ and Mada's KPop shoes from RMP (that out fit also works well for a young girl). Also any of the Amy, Jasmin, or Aven clothing works fine for the younger set.

Release date is out of my control but... you, know, that 4-letter word. It is something DAZ has in the works so I'm sure it won't be too much longer. Hey, they will be worth waiting for, trust me. :)

Looking forward to it always liked studying your work in the past (kinda wondering what you put into them as far as posing morphs etc.). I've also been doing a lot of work of my own studying Daz 4 and been trying to do most of it without outside help, But I can say I will be buying this. Can I ask......What program do you use to shape? I'm still using Extreme Morph 3D (Which is called Blacksmith I believe.

Are they coming out under your name, or as a DAZ Original? That could have some impact on when they finally show up.

  • ThorneThorne Posts: 87

They will be a DAZ Original, yes, so it will have to fit into their release schedule and I honestly don't know what that is

They will come with several additional shaping morphs, extra face morphs, on/off poses, etc. I use Silo among other tools, and my library of my own custom shape morphs for Genesis that I'm constantly adding to.
