Advice on skin texture requested

Hi,
I'm completely new to 3d modeling and to Daz3D. Can someone please recommend which is the best (i.e. the one most photorealistic) skin texture to purchase for a female form of genesis ? I don't like the free ones that comes with the download- to me they look too artificial even when zoomed out. I am willing to purchase other models (Victoria etc.) if the recommended skin textures are only available for those models. I don't know whether my expectations are a bit high but I'm hoping someone can give some advice.

Thanks in advance for your response

Raj

Have you looked at the Elite texture sets fin the store for V4 and Genesis?

They are among the most realistic that you will find here, although there are other skins and merchant resources for sale too.

Thanks for your suggestion JimmyC. I've looked at those and I don't find anything very photorealistic. Interestingly there is a product selling 'eyes' which has quite a nice skin texture at least on the cover of the product (less so on other examples):

Is it the case that perhaps the skin texture used in that image comes from a different renderer ? Either way, thanks for your suggestion.

Just a tip: Light settings and render settings as well as texture settings all play into the final rendered image. Nothing will look 100% out of the box, it all takes good settings to get good results.

Everyone seems to have different concepts of what makes a 'good' skin texture, but generally, the Elite Textures are a good place to start. Personally I would say, Lana and Marie in particular.
They are also the only skin textures I know that come with good specular maps ;)

That product is by Raiya. I'd bet that the skin texture displayed in the promo image is from another one of Raiya's products...probably Dawn from the looks of it. http://www.daz3d.com/shop/dawn-for-v4-and-v5 Or Summer Edition Erin: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/summer-edition-erin

I agree with the others who recommended Elite textures...I own nine of them now (including the ones that come with V5 and M5) and while some are more photorealistic than others, you can pretty much count on them to yield good results...as long as you use good lighting and render settings (as Jaderail said). This is hugely important...you can make a mediocre texture look good with the right setup, but with poor lighting a great texture will still look fake.

Something else you might want to look into are products designed to increase the realism of your renders, like the Reality plug-in (which does use a different render engine), or Interjection. I don't own these, but I think they're worth a look.
