If you find a good community that meets your standards you wont have to filter through the trash as much. There is a ton of content on the site, and a lot of times I find my google searches take me back to dA.

But if you watch a good hi quality group focused on what you are interested in it makes things a lot easier. Since you can just focus on one piece of the whole. FInd a group you like may take a bit of time as you figure out the culture. Each group is different and some are mindless. THey may be a big group but there is no admin so it's like the wild wild west. Others are more strict and enforce higher quality submission. Just depends on what you are looking for. There are groups for everything.

Well, I made a couple of favorite folders where I drag and drop some of the pictures I like. Eg., I added Lars' Enchanting picture and favorited it. And I even added him to the Watch-list. I also have MattyManx, ForbiddenWhispers and Lantios as I know they're members in this community. To find them I used 'DAZ3D' or 'Poser' in the search-box.

And I added others that aren't primarily Poser/DAZ Studio-users, but nonetheless makes great art, like deskridge (check him out!). Or takes great photos.

BTW, I'm a (new) member of the Resident Evil-group, and that should come as no surprise.

thanks for fav and the watch.

I mostly watch group messages these days to see if there is some kind of policy change or competition going on. I had to stop watching incoming deviations because there are just too many. I got invited to be admin of a lot of groups so some of my time goes to approving or declining submissions to groups but I don't spend too much doing it. THere are some people who get obsess with how large a group is and I just don't want to get wrapped into it.

I joined to share art and thats what I do, but I get asked a lot of questions so I offer out advice when I can. Now that the forums are working better I'll be less reluctant to refer them here since most of the questions are Daz oriented.

It (deviant art) can be a little confusing at times.

To me it was one of those "well i guess this place is better than nothing" situations when Artzone and then the old Daz site went down.
(i made an account a long time ago but never used it until Daz went down for teh site change over)

Now i have got pretty used to it i figure i might as keep it as my main posting spot for now.

One of my first mistakes was i didn't realize they had a reply button in the comments section (i know it was right in my face and yet i still didn't see it) and while i did say thanks to the comments no one would have saw my reply and i got a couple angry people thinking i just ignored there comment lol.

I guess if anyone gets anything from my post is There is a reply button LOL.

Well well well. Google is worth the weight in gold. How silly that an outside party are a better solution that the in-house stuff. But thanks anyway.

How silly that a specialist outside party is a better solution when it comes to their specialty.

I really like deviantArt because it's very easy to interact back-and-forth with your favorite artists through comments, and you can discover all sorts of art that you would almost certainly never find by browsing the Favorite galleries of other people. Recently I've had fun commissioning other artists, which I highly doubt I would have found any other way. It's my primary hangout now. :)

Lordvicore (or anyone else), if you have problems figuring out anything on deviantArt, let me know. I'm not an expert, but I visit like fifteen times a day. ;)

sheesh, glad I never uploaded any "art" if you are expected to reply to comments.
I stopped replying to comments on my YouTube channel long ago, rarely do and a few times it has just led to trolling by others.
infact there are those who dis me whenever I post a comment on some other user's videos because they subscribe to all my activity.

gad! having a bad day, I commented on a Youtube video by someone I had subscribed to and he blocked me!
he does do some cool 3D stuff sometimez

3Deditor has posted a comment n your channel: Dumb comments like you left on that video without thinking, are what gets you blocked and deleted. I was on my way back from checking the mail and it's a tight knit neighborhood. It's pretty safe. Sorry you live in ghettoville. Just don't post stupid crap like that on other peoples walls. By the way, your animation SUCKS!!! Only Poser's use Poser software. You can reply to this comment by visiting your comments page.

now you see why I do not reply to comments or rarely post them, I was trying to be funny but it went pearshaped
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGWn3tmqjNE
I said "look mommy that strange man with the video camera is walking past again" my neighbourhood the kids are too busy stealing cars and doing drugs to sing
I was basicly saying he was a grumpy nosey neighbour but in hindsight he prob thought I was suggesting he was a pedophile
    but
why upload a video like that?
exactly what sort of comments is he expecting?

    no
I best stay off Deviant Art! ;-P

Since we are on the subject of DA, (I don't want to hijack the thread though) what is the point and or use of Journals? Are they like blogs?

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,495
    edited December 1969

Yes, Journals are basically blogs. I use mine to post updates or links to other things my visitors might find interesting. Customizing how they look requires using CSS though, so you're better off either using the default or an installable preset (if you're a paying dA member). You can favorite or link to journals just like images too, and a lot of users add "features" where they'll pick their favorite images and post little thumbnails (which is easily done) to promote them to their own visitors.

If we are talking Grandmasters i would check out isikol 's deviant art page. I seen his stuff here and there and i thought what little i had seen was awesome, but damn i looked at his deviant art page and the stuff there blew me away. If I live to be 100 and practice every day i could still never reach that point.

I would link it but I'm not sure people would like their gallery's linked by some random nobody lol but i think you can just search by name there.

I know in-house software isn't up to par with Google, but please... A simple list with usernames, so you can browse through like here at DAZ3D.Com's forums isn't to much to ask...

Well, they might have never heard of Don Quixote de la Mancha fighting windmills, or maybe they have and expect you to do the same mistake this gentleman did in this fictional novel. So it's a very good move to not feed the trolls, Wendy. Mow down one, and you still have a hundred to contend with, so that's why it isn't worth the effort.

Funny that you mention him, but I also has isikol on favorites. Btw, he's a pro when it comes to such stuff, says so on his page. If you need to hire him, you can visit his personal webpage.

Has anybody else lost the ability to comment on images and see details of members images. I get the thumbnails, then when I click on the I get a full size picture but nothing else on the page. I am a paid up member. If this is a new change to the site I am not impressed.

Yeah, guess I knew that... I just said that stupidly...
I don't use Facebook or other SN sites, but I have used my wife's to send messages to people... I get how those work...
It just seems DA... is very "unique"... When I first heard about it I though it was a place for Artists to show off their work... and possibly even to sell their work... But it seems to be more of a very unfocused amalgamation of a bunch of stuff... and mainly it is confusing. I've tried to use it a few times, but it seems like whenever I click on something it doesn't do what it looks like it should do.... like for example, I went to edit my one journal entry today and in the corner of the text window there is a little icon showing a pencil and paper... looks a lot like an "edit post/text" icon... but, when you hover over it, it says "edit this widget".... WHAT?... it does allow you to edit the post, but either they have mislabeled it or they are choosing to call a post or entry a "widget". Its lots of stuff like that that I don't get. It's not like you can ask "how do you do this" questions there either... not without having fifty snarky annoying 13 year old kids reply to god knows what.

I don't mind DA. But the users are another issue. It's like one very, very large high school, that is seriously understaffed. A bit too young for my tastes.

Jcowb, try clearing your cache or just try again later. That's happened to me a few times (even viewing my own art), but it always fixes itself. It's not a new feature, haha.

Thanks Zilver, I'm very flattered to be included among your list of masters. :)

I've had that happen a few times, it's like the page decides to stop loading midway through; I just figured it was my crappy cable internet.. I use Firefox with adblocker on a Mac (didn't know DA had ads on it until a couple of months ago when I was on a friends PC, lol)..

I kind of /like/ the way dA is set up. Other than Renderosity it's about the only place I post these days. I like being able to group my gallery pictures arbitrarily according to theme, etc. Sure, it has some odd UI issues, but what site doesn't? :)

Thanks for responses to my query.
It turns out that an extension "Do not Track" was the cause of the problem. Once removed from my browser "Chrome" ,all worked well. I was having the same problem in Firefox and Explorer which is interesting because Firefox did not have the extension but only functioned properly when the extension was disabled in the other two browsers.
Anyway, thanks again for the help.
